I feel like you didn't even cover the biggest drama, which is that the housings aren't even POM. They seem to be Nylon.
But the v1 are made of nylon no? And yet the v2 still sound different.
@@kleavage1983 I'm not sure I'd classify them as v1/v2, but I suppose it works. But the original bsun housings used to make holy pandas were POM, as was the stem from the halo switches. Drop also advertised these as full pom switches (pom housing and pom stem).
@@nategr8ns Oh really? I did not know the OG housings were POM! I had thought it was PC top housing and nylon bottom housing with halo true POM stem.

I just received some V2s I ordered at the end of April. They feel smooth as hell, clean and lightly lubed, and consistent top to bottom across every switch. Perfect amount of tactile and a nice subdued sound, and the bottoming out sound is ASMR-level pleasing. I always go with PBT caps, I like the feel very much. I am currently using a GMMK TKL as my base.
The alt is generally a pingy board. A sound test on board that isn't very pingy would be appreciated!
Agreed, that board didn't help this test at all. Especially with it's shitty stabs.
I use the base Alt because it and other Drop variants have a fairly large installed user base and the thought process is that by using the Alt, it would give people relatable context. For example with your comment, and the other one posted in this thread, you guys are aware of the nuances of the Alt and can bake that into your judgement of the Panda switch.
I thought about using my custom 60% but I wasn't sure if the context would help but after reading this comment and thinking it over a bit more, an additional data point to isolate the switch performance the best I can with a custom board is not a bad idea. I will start including my Tofu build along with the Alt in the future.

I really wanted a sound test for the Holy Pandas V2 lubed.
I didn’t see you cover this in your video, but when I received them and tested them against some mint holy pandas I had, I noticed just how less tactile the drop ones were. The switch in general felt more linear and multiple of people on reddit and personal friends had the same issue.

NGL, I thought A was the v1. I'm pleasantly surprised that they are actually the v2 since I ordered from that drop! The v2 sound better to me.

I haven't opened mine up yet, but my switches were all fixed in the packaging when they arrived.
I ordered mine on June 6th and received them August 20th which surprised me, I opened a switch and immediately noticed there was lube on the switch stem, and then found out that it’s not even a POM housing which is extremely disappointing since it was one of the main reasons I purchased them.

Is there any chance in saving the switches? Like open them up and make sure the lube that's on there is at least consistent?
I got mine in two weeks ago, they came perfectly packaged, and not a single switch had pre-applied lube on them (I checked all of them). It appears to be a very hit-or-miss distribution of packaging and factory lube.
i would be interested in a freshly lubed comparison of v1 and v2. nice comparison. I ordered the v2. They came a little late but i did not mind. They Keycaps i ordered at the same time still have not arrived. Mine were cleanly packed. I have not taken them apart yet. they do feel scratchy but thats what i expected from an unlubed switch. i will have a more thorrow look and report back.
I have no idea if I was affected because I try not to count the days. I am in on a number of group buys that I just forget about and, when they arrive, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Is they V2 housing the same shape as the V1s?
There are rumors that the V2s are not made of the same material as V1 (not POM). Do you think that's what's causing more friction/the need for more force to actuate?
Wait does that mean that the current drop for holy pandas that are estimated to ship on Aug 31st are also going to be lubed?
Thankfully I actually was a part of the first batch of switches sent out which is how it should be as I ordered the day that they launched the v2 holy pandas. I was lucky enough to get my switches with no lube. I have opened up a bunch of them and all of them have had no lube on them. So thank god for that. From what I have seen from the first batch sent out is that some people got some with some lube but not that much. Maybe the second batch that they sent out which you were a part of had more lube and more inconsistent lube.

So if i were to go onto drop and order the Holy Panda switches right now, I'll receive the "V2s" shown in this video right? I'm also interested to see if the "increased resistance" on the V2s disappears after you lube them. Anyways great video! :)
Correct, it seems like the original molds from the v1 run of the Holy Pandas no long exist and these new molds are going to be the new standard going forward unless they decide to revise the design.
When I received them, the packaging wasn't as scuffed as what I saw in this video, just several switches outside the black casing thing. As a newbie to this hobby, I didn't really care bout the pre-lubed stuff but nonetheless, I did clean them and lubed em myself. Now here I am typing with em and they feel fine to me imo.

My experience was almost 100% the same as yours, except i didn’t notice any black grease on mine yet. We’ll see when I pull them apart for lubing. But not really that bothered because shipments to Canada from DROP usually seem to get pretty beat up and delayed
I just got my holy pandas and they are my first tactile switch. I absolutely hate it. They feel incredibly scratchy and it doesnt even feel like a tactile bump? it feels like there is a switch film or something in the way of the bump. Did I get a bad batch? Mine came unlubed and i added some krytox and it didnt help at all.
Ordered on April 23rd and received on July 22nd. During shipping, only one row of switches were flying around in the box. I was expecting unlubed switches as well, but all the stems on my Holy Pandas were only slightly lubed which I didn't mind. I didn't notice any black grease marks on any of the switches I opened and relubed (68 switches out of 110). Luckily for me I am happy with this Drop Holy Panda purchase!

I can confirm that in my received order with the HP V2 switch, there is definitely some lubes in the switch. And I've also noticed some black stuff (not as much showing the video though) inside the switch when I trying to relube those.

This is my first group buy and first Drop order. The order was placed on April 11th, confirmed on April 24th. It was delivered to me in Germany on July 21st. So I got lucky. With the lube as well:
My switches came virtually unlubed. By that I mean fewer than 10 pieces have minimal amounts of tiny shiny spots, presumably lube. The packaging was as shitty as you showed.
Hey I know this video is two weeks old I just hope someone responds I go to the switches on drop and I see positive reviews does that mean these issues have been fixed?. I’m not prepared to spend $90 Canadian dollars plus shipping for a sub par product

After cleaning and lubing them, mine sounded and felt nice. They are a little heavier of an activation, but I kinda of like that. I almost never bottom out.

I had 2 orders of 110. Both came with the switches properly in their rows/box. Mine had minor amounts of lube and no ping. It’s annoying that I’ll have to remove their lube and re-do them eventually but after seeing other people’s experiences I think I got pretty lucky this round
Edit: I should also add that I ordered my first 110 batch in early Feb and received them July 29th. The 2nd batch I ordered in late March and they arrived mid July...

I ordered my HP‘s end of may... so I will get the V2‘s? I‘m a Bit disappointed that there is no consistency in the manufacture quality. Hope that my switches will have no issuse‘s and will feel and Sound as Great as I expact. Thanks for your explanation!
They’re going to need to be lubed and you will need to eliminate spring ping for the best feel/sound but really that goes for every switch.

I ordered on the 15th of Feb so more likely on the same batch as you. I did experience some stock pinging and scratchyness (mostly taken care of by 3203. However, i didnt experience such thick amounts of lube that others did (any amount of lube to their "not lubed" statement is still unacceptable)
I bought into these and was effected by the FIFO issue as well. Didn't bother me much and I'm planning to use the $10 towards either SA Oblivion or the Laser R2 deskmat. I've found it's common to add future credits for issues like this.
So, I bought these when I had just joined the mech community and had heard so much hype. My expectations were pretty high because of this. In the period between February and July I got more experience with many switches. My favorites so far are T1s but I've also bought others such as NK Blueberries. I was surprised to feel how scratchy the HPs are. It reminded me of the Blueberries in the feel of the creme housings and I feel like I almost need to break in the HPs.
What REALLY surprised me though is how heavy and stiff the HPs are to use. It's actually quite annoying going to a keeb with the HPs vs T1s. I actually went back to the product page to confirm the spring weight. It's supposedly the same weight but there's a massive difference.
Overall I don't understand all the hype around them. I'd much rather use a much more accessible and enjoyable switch like the T1 than these.
Funny you brought up the T1. I've been looking at them all day. Thinking about picking up those and the lighter Koala.
@@JTTR highly recommend the T1s. You'll find that many tactile switches are actually clones of them, but a good place to pick them up is from PrimeKB when they're in stock. He has a couple of spring weights.
Everglide Oreos are really nice as well. Lighter spring than the T1s but pretty similar otherwise in my experience.
@@JTTR oh, and BTW I highly recommend using switch films on the T1s. I've found that the housings tend to be a bit loose and sound rattly unless you film them.
Broken legs. I had 6/70 switches with broken legs out of the box.
No other issues, they stayed in packaging. I didnt find any factory lube while lubing them. Just the main actuation leg on 6 of my switches where just gone.

Really hope you're joking. If you're not just wow. I get why you're paranoid but this is too paranoid. Look up how long it can remain on surfaces and keep in mind how long this was in transit before going in your hands. The box handled by your postman has a more likely chance of having coronavirus than the switches that's been packaged and untouched for weeks.

Got mine last month same issue with the switches being all over the place in the box.. two question... how did you take the prelube off ? Also do you recommend 205g0 lube or 2303 or 3204
I use a sonic cleaner. I made a video about that here: th-cam.com/video/zChdj9jnx1g/w-d-xo.html. Pop open the housing, leave the leaf alone and throw everything in. Once clean just make sure to dry everything off.
I tried 3203 and 205g0 on another set of YOK Holy Pandas and prefer the 3203. I found that the 205g0 was too viscous.

Bought my HP's March 3rd and received them July 17. My HP's came completely unlubed and none had black marks on them. Also my HP's were not pingy at all, are you sure it is not the Drop Alt causing that? My drop alt with Halo clears was super pingy and I ended up selling it. pretty sure its from the board. For reference i am using the HP's in a Poly carb KBD67 mkii with a brass plate with GMK stabs and lubed with 3203.
The keyboard does not have that distinctive ping on the V1 Holy Pandas or my Zealios v2s, only the V2 Holy Pandas so I'm pretty sure it's the switch. Other people on the Drop discussion page seems to be having the same issue.
I've said this in another comment but I use the Alt because it has a pretty big user base so what people see in the video is more relatable compared to me doing a sound test on my custom 60%.
With that said I do agree that using the Alt doesn't showcase the switches in the best light so I'll include other custom builds in the future. Thanks for watching!

Damn, so V2s sound better, to me? I just got a notification that mine shipped and should be here sometimes this week or next. FedEx has my shit at site 20 miles from me, its been sitting there for 2 days, still with the same delivery date. But I have noticed that they will give you a date, then deliver like a couple days early.
Bro, JTTR, what do you think of unholy Pandas or Yok Pandas??? I have recently joined or picked up about 160 YOK and BSUN switches since I too was affected by the delays. I thought it would be faster going this route than waiting on Drop. I placed my order within the month or less after they dropped and people I know on discord, who ordered in April and May, got theirs before me.
Also, did you hear that Glorious PC Gaming Race teased Panda switches? Also there was a GB recently for 5 pin Holy Pandas from another manufacturer. It had a 20K limit and sold out in minutes.
My switches came in perfectly they all sat in the tray. I had no prelubed on my and I opened and lubed my switches, they were perfect. Honestly you probably just got a bad batch or i just got lucky with my
Oddly enough my HPs from the recent release came unlubed. I lubed them with 3203 and they feel good, which in the end that's what matters to me. Drops system glitched and sent me two orders, can't complain too much.
I didnt know which was which i just liked A's modifiers but B's standard keys
mine arrived as if there was a hurricane in the box only 20 of 70 switches were still in the black rails :/

Drop def has issues but I was lucky in that my switches came quickly, without the weird black grease or other things, and seemingly (mostly??) unlubed. Or at least very thinly in the ones I've opened up.
Kind of hard to tell the ping on a Drop alt. It pings with every switch :( anyways, RIP Drop holy pandas.
Can that be fixed with lube? Yikes, I was going to get HPs. But if it's really bad, I'll buy Tealios V2s.

I would clean them. We don't know the viscosity of the included lube so you won't want to spend all that time taking switches apart and lubing them just to have it inconsistent.

I noticed right away A was thr V2 since it has a much lower pitch than V1 Holy Pandas
Edit: now when you mentioned the spring ping, I started notice that as well. I thought it was the sound of the case at first.
The As sound deeper, while the Bs have a higher pitch "kik" sound at the end of the upstroke. I don't know anything about HolyPanda switches, so i can comment on the runs, only the difference between A & B sounds.

EDIT 8/8/20: I've been reading all of your comments and very happy to see that the feedback on your experience with Drop's Holy Panda v2 seems to be positive! Another wave of shipments are coming soon so hopefully you guys don't have to wait much longer!
I've seen a few of you bring up YOK Pandas. These are good alternatives to the Drop Holy Pandas if you want to recreate the OG Holy pandas that the Drop v1s are based on. I enjoy my set a lot. However, like with the Drop Holy Pandas, YOK Pandas still require some work and it's not as easy as some are making it out to be.
- The process of aquiring YOK/True switches and combining them can be daunting to people new to the hobby. You also end up with excess parts.
- Currently YOKs are sold out everywhere with the only GB for Mint Pandas already over ( bolsakeyboardsupply.com/collections/switches/products/bsun-mint-panda-switches-group-buy ). If waiting for Drop Holy Pandas were your concerns, you'll unfortunately have to wait for YOKs as well. AliExpress as some options but they're priced at $17 for 10... With this in mind, Drop is still a viable option since they're still taking pre-orders.
- In the case of my YOK, they also had inconsistent lube. I have read that some stock runs were bone dry. So be prepared to do some cleaning.
Hopefully this gives you guys the info you need to make an informed decision that's right for you.
Deskhero.ca offered real POM HP. Alexoto reviewed it too. That might a better option for some.

@JTTR I recently bought their DROP CTRL keyboard and had changed the status of their order as reserved for shipment so i was thinking okay so they have my keyboard its just waiting to be shipped. Days past and the status never changed so i submitted a ticket and LSS, only option they gave me was a full refund for a keyboard i had been for a month now just to ship. I dont like the way they handle their customers complaints.

Mine arrived last week. Sadly, the packaging was a disappointment for the price of these switches. It was packed in a larger box with just 5-6 strips of air filled plastic, but half were deflated. The inner box was a tad dented. I opened the inner box and about 1/5th were all over the place. I also experienced just random lube on practically every switch. Sometimes on just half of 1 side of the stem, sometimes on the front side, even some on 1 leg, etc. Just very very random... After cleaning, lubing and spring swapping to a slightly lighter spring though... they sound and feel amazing~
Couldn't decide between that panda or zealios, guess ill just go with zealios since they same price.
