- The Beer Diaries visits Blue Owl Brewing, located in Austin, Texas for the “Where Are They Now?” series to chat with Jeff Young, Co-Founder/Owner & Head Brewer, about the very personal process and hurdles of opening a brewery. Last time we spoke to Jeff, he was the Head Brewer/Beer Team Leader at Black Star Co-op and has since started his own place with his business partner Suzy Schaffer.
Their East Austin brewery is dedicated to the craft of sour-mashing your favorite beer styles into new experiences and was recently voted “Austin's Best New Brewery of 2015” by Thrillist/Austin and "2015's Best New Austin Hangout" by Austin American-Statesman. Blue Owl Brewing is super unique. I love everything they offer, and their location is amazing.Parking downtown isn't the easiest thing in the world, but worth the trek.

Beer Diaries needs to come to Arizona. Arizona Wilderness, The Perch, San Tan Brewing, Four Peaks, SunUp, Desert Eagle, Fate, Papago brewery, and O.H.S.O are all amazing breweries that are located in the phoenix metro area. Please?
Great episode! An all sour mash brewery sounds mighty intriguing. I know you probably get this a lot, but definitely come make a trip to Portland! There's a world of brewing waiting for your in-depth episodes.
