Solid old tractor, I have a 640 with 2500hrs still holds 40psi oil pressure and will do much more than you think, make sure to put grease on the advance weight under point plate, you have to put a spacer between to have remote takeoff
That old girl doesn't look like she does much real work so what's the point of changing something that works really well? My 800 which gets a lot of work starts the first time every time with the old ignition system.
I'm new to your channel. It looks like you converted to a 12 volt system with negative ground. Is that correct? I'm planning on doing the same things to my 1959 841. Thank you for the information.
I installed the electronic ignition on my 641 a few months ago. It was great for awhile. That was January 13th. About a month ago it just died on me. So I put newpoints and condenser back in. Very frustrating. I probably only ran 20 or 30 hours and they burned out. I have hesitated with the electronic ignition upgrade for years. I was very excited to try them. Very hopeful and positive about it. I really want them to be a good system, but my experience is very poor. And I did upgrade to the three on Potter coil sorry that was not an issue. I’d love to hear other peoples experience about this. I do love the idea but at least it needs to last a handful of years to make it worth the money.
With the new system, you can also increase the plug gap some for even better engine performance.
Good work Bill! That tractor runs and sounds amazing. Definitely appears to have some more grunt with having a “modern” ignition system.

It's a great upgrade well worth the money seems I was always messing with the points even on a cold day it fires right up

You can never go wrong converting to a breakerless ignition, even with a 6V or 8V system.

It’s best to stuff toilet paper in dist to keep screws from falling in to dist
On our 800 do what I did now the fuel shut off is by the caborator now tank shut off we never it off any more unless we have to pull the tank off now.

are you using stock plug wires? or does it need some different wires? part number please if you have it.
I use the standard plug wire unless the customer wonts them changed out

That clunk sounds like excessive backlash on your final drive.
7:39 I’d leave all that stuff alone cause that Pertronix will die one day and you’ll need points again instead of spending another $100+ on a new one.

Ty. You cannot leave your key on without the tractor running. Fries them really fast. 12 years on the one on my d17. No issues
