Who writes lyrics like "7th Heaven on my shoulders falls heavy"? Who does that! Paul McCartney was asked in an interview a couple of years ago how he was able to write such amazing songs. He replied that his parents exposed him to many hours of old music when he was small and he felt he drew from them when writing his own songs, then he added (tongue in cheek) that also...he was a genius. I think Angelina, like Mr. McCartney, checks both blocks - familiarity with a vast library of music [130+ covers plus many more that she listened to] and an incredible musical IQ. She is bringing, no forcing really, jazz on her generation with a deep and uplifting message, an awesome quality delivery, all wrapped up in a catchy infectious beat! The 1st time I heard this, I wondered the same thing you did, how is she going to deal with the long overlay in a live performance of this song? There was a shorter overlay in Million Miles which, in the live studio version, she dealt with beautifully. I'm sure it will be great in the live version of 7th Heaven, but I'm just curious how she will do it, because it is a much longer overlay.

Is anyone else having issus with the video deteriating to a slideshow ? (Sound is ok) She talked in an interview how she wants the music video to have oldschool visuals, so I think its a given we'll see one. Even if the album has not been released yet she's been teasing us on IG, asking if we're ready for more. She's also recorded some covers for her channel. So I guess, she plans to keep things in motion until live concerts are possible again in the fall. Interestingly she stated on Spotify her chosen style will be an up-beat RnB/Pop/Jazz crossover. 7th Heaven could somewhat be setting the style for the album then.
Not sure her live performance concrrns are a priority right now. She admitted a few months ago that almost all her live shows had been canceled due to Covid. And she is still in high school, limiting concert opportunities to seasonal events. Republic knows there is pent up demand for her next release after about nine months of silence, so Million Miles and this had to get out.

I agree and didn't like hearing it but I guess it's reasonable to expect more and more commercialization from now on since she's now signed. Still love the song - but I'll add one more thing that caught me a bit unexpectedly: the even balance - another characteristic of commercialization, I guess. It's reaching for jazz but, except for the ending bit (which I did love btw) listen to how evenly balanced the piece is ;-) ... I think I prefer being "tripped up" a bit more in jazz LOL. ... Still - love AJ and I'm still looking forward to where she goes from here! HA!

No you are not expecting too much. Sometimes I do comment on the lyrics and the reason I don't most times is because there is a lot to focus on at the same time but primarily, the main focus is the style and technique of the singer.
I have a feeling she might have backup singers in the music video. When she's doing that overlapped run, the backup singers could start, and when she finishes the run, she could take over... But of course that's only speculation. :)
