I recently bought Angelina's book "Mellom to hjerter" (Between two hearts) published when she was nine. And reading it in between listening to "7th heaven", I found so much in it corresponding to the lyrics of the song. Maybe it is a coincidence, maybe it is something dwelling deep inside her more or less concious peeping up, but if you use the book as a reference: The song starts with "Oh, you know a lot of bitterness". The book tells of a the motherless girl sitting on the wet, cold street, having given up her dreams of becoming a doctor.
"The girl tells me that she has lost the hope. My heart which often talks to me, whispers: Tell her that she shall not be sad, and that she must not loose her hope. It will turn out good in the end."
You cannot escape your bitterness, but if you will live, you must have hope! Don't give up! The reason for the girl loosing the hope of her future is the responsibility to her siblings. - And maybe it is stetching it too far, and there may be many other interpretations (which is what makes her songs and lyrics so deep), but I can't help reflecting: Can this be the "7th heaven" that falls heavy on the shoulders? The blessings and happiness of having a loving family which sometimes also can give you a feeling of conflict between the wishes to live for the loved ones and the loss of complete freedom to pursue your own ways? "The life with others' love is a heavy baggage. I want to be a star. A star can not shine without darkness. And I want to shine more and more" Thus reflecting the darkness you may find in this encouraging song? Where there is no darkness, you don't need anyone to lighten up the road! And is this connected to the 7th heaven? - Is Angelina taking the place of this girl when she is singing "all my dreams seems slowly fading", or do we speak of two related souls in a way melting into each other?

I just want to share my thoughts after having read a book about experiences going back more than half a lifetime (in Angelina's case), and I wonder: Is this the foundation upon which she is building her career? Is this orphan girl the sun that is giving her power? If so, what better foundation can be given than compassion, love and a purpose of shearing this with the world. erik, thank you so much for sharing this with us. To think that these thoughts were from the diary of a 6 yo child, is mind blowing. I know she wrote the book at 9, but these were the thoughts of a very insightful child with inborn empathy. You can really see the lyrics of 7th Heaven in these quotes. So she started writing the song at 6 & finished with a little help from Stargate at 15!
She sounds in this song like a mix of a cleaned up Amy Winehouse and Peggy Lee. Remember "You give me Fever " from1958 . Angelina is a vocal chameleon and this version suits her well.

When I watched nine year old Angelina belt out a mind boggling version of I Put a Spell on you, it forced me to reevaluate how ALL girls see themselves before they're brainwashed and bullied by men, and women, into personas others force on them. I think we are glad that she is something of a role model (vs many in the industry) despite her still being quite young herself. At the same time, we hesitate to put any additional pressure such as that on her. But Angelina says in "Million Miles", 'I'll never regret what I do'. Of course, there are two ways to fulfill that promise. Either allow yourself any behavior whatever and simply refuse to acknowledge any regret, or have the self-control to choose better paths (even when some carelessness might be in play). I never would have thought of the Kathryn Hepburn (you said Audrey, but I think it’s Kathryn) reference, but it’s really good: Angelina is class, with a voice that can cut glass when she uses it. And here she gives us swag and attitude, especially in my favorite line: “Sometimes I want to be powerful” which she delivers with intentional sass. This is upbeat, immediately catchy, and positive. The reason for the girl loosing the hope of her future is the responsibility to her siblings. - And maybe it is stetching it too far, and there may be many other interpretations (which is what makes her songs and lyrics so deep), but I can't help reflecting: Can this be the "7th heaven" that falls heavy on the shoulders? The blessings and happiness of having a loving family which sometimes also can give you a feeling of conflict between the wishes to live for the loved ones and the loss of complete freedom to pursue your own ways?

Thus reflecting the darkness you may find in this encouraging song? Where there is no darkness, you don't need anyone to lighten up the road!

As I interpreter this, Angelina is looking into the mirror, seeing herself as the girl, connecting to the girl. In "7th heaven" there is also a mirror. Is she looking at herself or at someone else? - wanting to love that person. Maybe both? And you may follow this line further and imagine Angelina talking to this girl when she is singing "Sometimes you ..."? - Or she may be talking to herself - or to both and everybody else being in need of encouragement? Probably the last.
I do not try to deliver any answers. I just want to share my thoughts after having read a book about experiences going back more than half a lifetime (in Angelina's case), and I wonder: Is this the foundation upon which she is building her career? Is this orphan girl the sun that is giving her power? If so, what better foundation can be given than compassion, love and a purpose of shearing this with the world. And by doing that, giving the world hope?

erik, thank you so much for sharing this with us. To think that these thoughts were from the diary of a 6 yo child, is mind blowing. I know she wrote the book at 9, but these were the thoughts of a very insightful child with inborn empathy. You can really see the lyrics of 7th Heaven in these quotes. So she started writing the song at 6 & finished with a little help from Stargate at 15!

I think we are glad that she is something of a role model (vs many in the industry) despite her still being quite young herself. At the same time, we hesitate to put any additional pressure such as that on her. But Angelina says in "Million Miles", 'I'll never regret what I do'. Of course, there are two ways to fulfill that promise. Either allow yourself any behavior whatever and simply refuse to acknowledge any regret, or have the self-control to choose better paths (even when some carelessness might be in play). I trust AJ is operating in the second path.

How is it even possible that this 15 year old young lady can make most mainstream singers these days sound ordinary compared to her extraordinary singing talent. My brain just cannot process the absolute beauty of Angelina's vocals...have no words anymore. BTW, agree completely that there is so much trash music out there (Cardi B) that gets way to much attention when right in front of us ALL is this super talented, sweet, humble superior talented young lady with a message that actually means something.
Where have you been? This was an original and when you play it over a couple of times you can begin to come to your own conclusions about what her message is. I won't go into detail but I believe it's a self examination of sorts. She wants to be prepared if the road starts to get a little bumpy. I loved your thoughts and reaction (except for when you paused in the middle of her best run?) Yes, it’s old school jazz, but there’s still a contemporary feel and message. I never would have thought of the Kathryn Hepburn (you said Audrey, but I think it’s Kathryn) reference, but it’s really good: Angelina is class, with a voice that can cut glass when she uses it. And here she gives us swag and attitude, especially in my favorite line: “Sometimes I want to be powerful” which she delivers with intentional sass. This is upbeat, immediately catchy, and positive. A beautiful song, especially for right now.
