Just got back a few days ago from Viking Rhine river cruise Amsterdam to Basel. Was so impressed with Viking! Everything was first class & so well organized. Our cruise director & everybody onstaff was fabulous. I loved the quieter, slower pace as opposed to ocean cruises with constant activity & noise. Food was great. Will definitely be cruising Viking again.
You get what you pay for ! We did the Danube river cruise with a pre excursion stay in Prague and post excursion stay in Budapest! What a seamless way to travel ! Viking is wonderful! Can't believe people complain about the food No wonder obesity has reached epic proportions in the USA who else would complain about food not being available 24 hours a day! We had such a great experience we booked the Rhine river cruise for fall 2023! Needless to say we highly recommend Viking!
Just got back from a Viking River Sigyn cruise down the Rhein. It was fantastic. We had a room with a balcony. We used it a bit but for the most part we didn’t spend a lot of time in our rooms. Our social director was the best,so funny ,friendly and outgoing. The menu offered enough choices that it accommodated any picky eaters and the staff was superb definitely a 10/10. Our excursions were a mix of the the included and ones at an additional cost. Would definitely recommend Viking!
We completed the Rhine River cruise 2022 and it was fantastic. The staff was exemplary. We completed a mix of included and paid for tours. We had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Spending time in Klon was made memorable as this is where my grandmother’s people are from. We wished we had done the post extension in Basel. We did start early in Amsterdam and the time we spent touring Anne Frank’s home was quite memorable.
We just got back from a Viking River cruise. Not as luxurious as we expected from the ads. Felt very crowded as everyone does the same thing at the same time. Our piano player was also a bad singer. And the cruise director was trying to be everyone’s best friend. Which was fine until he talked behind the backs of some passengers- not cool. It didn’t help that rating questionnaires were turned into guest services before we disembarked. He read them all and then complained about some passengers that didn’t give him and the experience the glory he expected. The staff was fun like you said, but more like fun sarcasm than the elegance I expected. And one evening the entertainment was a game hosted by the cruise director but passenger’s shouted out answers corresponding to body parts - it got crude really fast and we walked out. We will try them one more time hoping the vibe of the cruise will be different based on a different cruise director. Just thought I would share and curious about your experience in regards to the overall feel
I think another line like Riverside or Uniworld may be a better fit for your next cruise. You'll find more formal service if you found Viking too casual. We like the more casual service because we enjoy getting to know the crew.
We’re scheduled for mid Oct and very excited. Loved your enthusiasm and honesty! Am a little concerned about whether we will have to go by bus if the ship can’t get thru due to low water or whatever. My back will do much better on a ship than a bus. Has anyone had this experience?
Lots of people have experienced this. The length of time on the bus just depends on the river and where the low water is. Viking has a lot of ships so they may have two ships meet and transfer you from one ship to the other.
Hi Angie , I just found your blog , Thank You im doing the Rhine Christmas Markets Dec '24 Amsterdam to Bern, Switzerland, with 2 extra Pre and Post Days, could you ir do you happen to remember tge vast ( I know '24 will be diffrent and you might not remember) the cost of the extra excursions , eg : the Black forest Bus , I think electric bike ?? I'm so excited !! Thank you again your Vlogs great and so helpful
I appreciate your honesty. We are wanting to do the Romantic Danube cruise, maybe in 2025. To be honest, the onboard entertainment does look a little lame compared to ocean cruises, but like you said, most do a river cruise for the itinerary. What would you say was the average ages of your fellow cruisers? I’m not sure how old you are, but you look a little bit younger than me, but I was still concerned about being with all older people. And last but not least, I have yet to see a large shower on a cruise ship! 😊 Thanks!
thank you for such a great review - really well put together! We are going on the same river cruise next month and I noticed that you mentioned Gluten Free beer for your Mum. Both my husband and I are Celiac so cannot eat Gluten - how easy is this on the cruise?
Thanks, Angie, for your very succinct (is that the word?) review. It sounded like you still had a good time, despite some of the lower review points. We are going on a similar river cruise (not Viking) next year (May 2024), so it's good to be forewarned about things you've experienced with Viking.
I'm gluten free like your mother. How was the selection? I going to be so upset when then pretzels are going to be served, lol. Thanks you a great video
When do the Christmas market start? My sister and I are going to some of the same cities that you mention on here and we signed up for all the included tours. We leave in November 1923. I wonder if we’ll see any of the Christmas markets
Thanks Angie for your honest review. I’m going on the Viking Christmas market cruise in December. Did you look at the higher cabins that have decks? If so what did you think?
We had a cabin with a veranda on the Viking Rolf. You can see the review here: www.tripswithangie.org/2018/12/river-cruise-ship-tour-viking-rolf.html?m=1
Sailed Viking x 3 and we would rate 9.9. Why? Because the staff was so exceptional that it made the entire trip amazing. And I don't think anyone goes on a longboat river cruise for the entertainment....leave that to the 5,000 plus passenger floating carnival cruises and their pseudo broadway reviews.
The cheapest I have seen a seven night is $1,999 per person when two people share a cabin. During the summer, it's usually around $2,700 - $3,000 per person when two people share a cabin.
This was the worst vacation, especially how expensive it was. Food was horrible and 2 people in our group got food poisoning. We were a group of 10 and everyone said never again with Viking.

Great review!
So helpful ..we're doing the Rhine on Viking in October.
Enjoy!
I would absolutely 100% do the Viking river cruise I think it’s absolutely a beautiful cruise and the ship as well
What river would you pick?
@@TripswithAngie I would probably do the rhine river
So helpful, and I loved seeing the paid excursion options. Your video is well done. We are going soon and can't wait.

How fun to explore your ancestry!
The best video of the numerous videos I looked at on the Viking Rhine Getaway
Wow! Thanks!
We booked for end of October. Hope my husband doesn’t get bored on the boat. Lol thank you.
Well, he could just get off. You spend a lot of time docked.
Thank you for your review. Trying to decide if I am going to book a Rhine River cruise with Viking.
Glad you found it helpful.
Thanks for a great review of excursion options. We’ll be on this cruise in a couple weeks.
Bon Voyage!

I’m taking this cruise next April, but on the Viking Hervor! Can’t wait!
How exciting!

Hey again! I think your video I liked was from Sept ‘22. We’re booked on Viking Sept ‘23. What was the weather like? Thanx!
@@joemock2314 We had great weather. It was partly cloudy with a little rain here or there. We needed long sleeves and jackets.

I don't recall. It will be clearly listed when you book your excursion. Your travel agent can also find out for you.
Thanks! I know it’s something I can’t control and just need to trust God that it will all work out and my back will be ok if we have to ride the bus
I can't imagine the bus ride is very long.

I'd say the average age was around 62 on our sailing. Everyone we met as an interesting, active world traveler.
thank you for such a great review - really well put together! We are going on the same river cruise next month and I noticed that you mentioned Gluten Free beer for your Mum. Both my husband and I are Celiac so cannot eat Gluten - how easy is this on the cruise?
Be sure to let the Program Director and the Chef know. They will be very helpful.

It's a river cruise ship so the menus are generally more limited for everyone. She could always find something to eat. The chef was great.
What time of the year did you go? Thanks for a great informative video.
Glad you found it helpful. We sailed in September 2022
High end cruises.waiter service are exeptional. @ 25 eur/ day, makes for two of us 300 eur per 7 days.
What costs 25 euros per day?

Which rivers did you sail?
Grand European, Bordeaux, Prague to Paris@@TripswithAngie
I didn’t see the link for the Amsterdam canal cruise?
Your travel agent can book it for you.
How much usually the cost for a river cruise roughly
The cheapest I have seen a seven night is $1,999 per person when two people share a cabin. During the summer, it's usually around $2,700 - $3,000 per person when two people share a cabin.
How was it eating gluten free for your Mom? I’m a vegetarian gluten free which is a challenge.
They handled gluten free beautifully. Vegetarian may be a little more challenging when it comes to variety, but I think they'll do a good job.
Angie, how did they do accommodating gluten free food for your mom?
They did a great job.
This was the worst vacation, especially how expensive it was. Food was horrible and 2 people in our group got food poisoning. We were a group of 10 and everyone said never again with Viking.
What sailing were you on?
Doing this trip in a few weeks. Thanks for the insight.

Germany looks amazing. But their wine, nahhh. 😂
I agree. I liked the wine on our Seine cruise better.
Lovely if you want a floating old people’s home
Have you been on one? That wasn't my experience at all.
@@TripswithAngie yes, once. Moored with ships either side, 4 deep, view out of eyeryones cabin was another cabin 4 metres away. Awful.
