14:46 BP Voltage out of range" refers to Bypass Voltage out of range in Eaton UPS systems, which occurs when there’s no AC power connected. By default, the UPS only starts when main power is present. You can bypass this by holding down the power button after the UPS initially turns on, allowing it to start without wall power or a phase. There is also a setting in the UPS to enable startup on battery power. As a side note, if you start the UPS without grid power, it will have a random phase direction. If you later connect it to wall power, the UPS will sync with the grid within a ±0.5Hz range, which is another configurable setting.

This brings back memories of the failure of a large UPS at a datacenter where I used to work. The cause of the damage was, again, water entry, due to a failure of an A/C unit nearby. Eaton sent a tech out to repair the unit. Less than 5 minutes later all the lights dimmed in the call center. Then we saw the Eaton tech being carried out to an ambulance. As I understand it, he failed to check or disconnect a voltage source and got severe burns. The Eaton tech recovered, but we had an object lesson in properly paying attention to safety precautions. Shortly afterward, the people who managed the datacenter implemented stringent "lock out/Tag out" standards.

Couple of things worthy of note for capacitors: Just because they are rated for say 600 volts doesn’t mean that they ever had 600 volts on them. Second of all, if there’s bleeder resistors on the board before touching anything short across the traces for the capacitors with something like a screwdriver. As soon as you do that you’ll be safe because the bleeder resistors will prevent those capacitors from charging up again. For the people who aren’t electrical engineers, capacitors can charge to a significant voltage if you don’t have a load on them, they are able to do that by picking up charged particles in the air and slowly building up a charge. This is my favorite type of LTT video. I like watching things be repaired, ideally like this video where you have a pro and an interested hobbyist to bounce off each other.
This is the reason that if you're gonna go with liquid cooling you should use mineral oil, not water. Mineral oil is nonconductive and most things won't dissolve in it meaning if you have a good enough filter to catch the metal particulates from the pump, a leaking cooling system filled with mineral oil won't cause nearly as many problems as one filled with water.
Good work Linus and Team for improving the safety consciousness of your videos. This was very well done and did a good job visually of communicating to the viewer that this is dangerous and to be safe with electricity.
While lithium ion would not be the route to go, lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) would be a much better choice than lead acid while also being much safer than lithium ion. It lasts a lot longer than lead acid, you get the full usable capacity out of it compared to 50% out of lead acid, and it doesn't go up in flames like lithium ion can.
Although Eaton still call it 'Lithium ion'. (And technically, it still uses Lithium ions to do it's thing). And all this confusion is made worse by ion and iron sounding the same.
@@phuzz00 You could call it a "Ferrous Lithuim battery" and keep it distinct; but I feel like a some people wouldn't quite know that ferrous means iron.

yeah, no wonder why he needs to rebuild equipment and save money, lol
If ever Linus dies, I think Dbrand would sponsor the casket.
They discussed this on the WAN at Computex - it's on LMG Clips.
@@random27 it's been discussed on the Wan Show🤣
I'm sorry Mr. Sebastan. We are denying your house fire claim. We watched a video of you clearly wiring a 240v wire... onto another 240v wire.
Good work Linus and Team for improving the safety consciousness of your videos. This was very well done and did a good job visually of communicating to the viewer that this is dangerous and to be safe with electricity.
1:24 wtf did he even say😂
I heard Velocirouter 😅
Sweetsteaks for a Hennessy Veloserouter
I mean, the one at 18:01 sounded like Vlassic Router..... didn't know a pickle company got into tech.
Eaton's Lithium UPS' use LiFePO4
Although Eaton still call it 'Lithium ion'. (And technically, it still uses Lithium ions to do it's thing). And all this confusion is made worse by ion and iron sounding the same.
@@phuzz00 You could call it a "Ferrous Lithuim battery" and keep it distinct; but I feel like a some people wouldn't quite know that ferrous means iron.
People risk their lives at work everyday for 22$ an hour. 5000 is worth the risk for most people
Thats how Taylor Swift gets new boyfriends.
@codyBarnette-GNARK *$22 not 22$... 🤦🏾♂️
@@facelessfaceman9716 bruh why do you care it's a comment under a video not a accounting report
I jumped into a 7' hole without shoring. Dumbest thing I have ever done for $26/hrs.
@@dantruong2582That's basically a grave 😮
13:50 These fuses are not directional, the diode symbol is there to indicate that it is a fuse designed for working with electronic components (faster response time)
Tynan wiggled like a cat whilst watching the UPS.
"Not to your taste?" Dennis ads are the best lmao
We need Linus battery tasting
I miss Waterjet Channel's Mitchel lick test
I love these types of videos as a person that works with repairing "electronics". The text tips that come up are perfect for getting info and not being intrusive
As a former Aviation Electronics tech for USN, Thats just a weekday hobby:) Currently tinkering with wave guides and microwaves.
Dennis's ad breaks are always fun.
"AC can't exist when everything is unplugged" that is so sad.
0:47 Can't help but notice a Cayenne randomly chilling in Linus' garage
Good catch! That's the "courtesy car" he gets every time the Tycanne is in the shop, I think.
@@Metal_Maxine Or perhaps, the "gaming minivan" was replaced by a new car
Ah, so the Taycan is broken again, isn't it?
@@Fabri91 it never left the shop lol
@@Metal_Maxine thats the old model, they usually give the latest model of the curtesy car
All the warning saying "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME" is good advice for everyone except me, Im a carrier electrician and an electrical hobbyist so i guess ill drop it since linus said not to
I love seeing stuff like this! Tynan seems super knowledgeable and would love to see more videos with him.
Tynan is my favorite LTT person
it highly bothers me that Linus is pointing with the uninsulated screw driver while talking about capacitor discharge.
The system works.
Even if it was insulated hes holding the shaft 😂
My shaft is always insulated....

@jono6379 @@2Hard2Core No-one wants discharge on their shaft... #Sorry #Notsorry
2:18 I'm gonna do it outside then!
This ridge ad is one of the ones you stay to watch, not only to support the creator but actually enjoy it. Good job!
1:20 finally, a Segue I not only didn’t skip, but watched *twice!* #livelaughliao
Hey Tynan, sweet RescueTool! 😎
Tynan is legit the hottest member of LTT, and the engineering knowledge only makes him hotter
Always fun to remember just how tiny Linus is, when he stands next to actual fully grown mans like Tynan.
I would have paid $5,000 to watch the other outcome.
The looks of excitement on Tynan's face whenever he points out a big capacitor tell me that I want no part of any of this 😂
If this works, Linus will be Eaton good tonight.
When Linus's water cooling leaks: No damage
When my water cooling leaks: 5k loss
08:57 9 ways beer and UPSs are alike:
Redundancy: Make sure you have backup.
I can get behind that!
@0:40 Fitting the theme of the video, solid choice for that solvable placement XD
I enjoyed that video. But even more I enjoyed the Ridge ad. Dennis is something else XD
At least he didn't drop it, it just got water damaged
