    Finally got around to watching this great match after meeting you at the Open, Tony (I came by on the last day and we chatted while you were packing up and took a selfie)…you are right, Tony, Johann moves like a guy half his age! Great footwork and a very entertaining match to watch. I’ve been watching both yours and CJ’s videos since I started playing pickle a few years ago. • @BestPickleballCoach
      @BestPickleballCoach  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed that Johan was able to recover the lobs but that alone is not dispositive. Many attack shots did not work either. Does not mean we stop hitting those attacks.

    What a way to end the game. Wow!! And that, folks, is how the pros do it. The guy in white shirt is spectacular. I thought the losing team tried to lob too much and may have cost them a couple of points. The guy in the orange shirt is great, but I do feel he was not 100% confident in his partner, hence some poaching that was unnecessary. Great match, and thank you for sharing.

    I hate lob shots and really do not like playing in a game with this many lobs. To prove my point, Tony and his partner lobbed the ball 23 times and lost 19 OF THOSE POINTS! The team they were playing had the ability to keep the ball in the kitchen via dinks or resets and dominated the match. Much better skill to be able to drop or dink and make it bounce than playing badminton pickleball with lobs.

    • @BestPickleballCoach
      @BestPickleballCoach  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you Bruce. But you don’t have a control number. How many of the 23 rallies would we have won without lobbing? Lobbing is becoming a bigger part of the game. Actually Stephanie Lane - our opponent - is the queen of the NVZ lob.

    • @brucelarison4241
      @brucelarison4241 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BestPickleballCoach I don’t think you need a control number to realize you gained very little by lobbing the ball 23 times in a 15 point game. I think it is an effective strategy a time or two during a match with intense dink battles from the NVZ, but as you said it is becoming a more prevalent. I think it is a crutch for players to NOT develop a drop/reset shot. I see it all the time in Rec play. Surprised 5.0 players would have to resort to this.

    • @BestPickleballCoach
      @BestPickleballCoach  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brucelarison4241 the increase in lobs is at the pro level. Plenty are adding it. My guess is because they are seeing it work - do not think they would use it if the shot were deemed to be suboptimal - those players are fine on their dinks and drops.

    • @brucelarison4241

      @@BestPickleballCoach We’ll have to agree to disagree on the “Pro’s” using it. Maybe in the Senior ranks where mobility may be an issue, I admit I don’t watch many senior pro matches. I do however enjoy watching PPA, APP, and MPA on tv and I don’t see many lobs. Have even heard announcers condemning players who use repeated lobs and are getting beat regularly.
