A little trick when reassembling. Once you put the three standoffs in, i slip an old credit card or I.D in the pocket clip, it keeps all those standoffs in place while i get the show side scale & liner in place.
@EDChero yeah, after fumbling around trying to hold the pivot and three standoffs, also while also flipping the knife over trying to keep everything in place, I was like man it would be great if there was something I could slip under the clip that would hold these standoffs in place... lol sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.
If you want superb action and centering on washers get the thick phosphor-bronze washers from Skiff. With them you do not need to use the steel spacers as they are just as thick as the bearings. They are a game changer for any Hinderer.
You can keep a good adjustment on that pivot screw with a little bit of Teflon tape which helps keep the screw from backing out. Hinderer requires a little patience. But when you get it dialed in the action is superb.
It’s an extra step but if you take the pocket clip off before you take the xm apart it goes back together way easier. With the pocket clip off it will lay flat and the nuts won’t fall out of the lock side. Also instead of using a flat head on the pivot I always use a penny. It fits perfect and reduces the chances of messing up the pivot screw. Learned the penny trick from metal complex.
Tha is for the tips! (head up, I have already shot a takedown of another XM-18 that I probably won't publish for a while, so if you don't see me use these tips in that video that's why)
What works for my XM-18 is to put scotch tape on the nuts to keep them from falling out, use a copper penny to keep from scratching the pivot and insert the pivot screw first to center the blade when assembling?
For what you get. Hinderers are a steal. 425 for that Caliber of knife, the pivot options etc. I pry with one regularly, and the s45 is the better steel for its use. $625 for a full TI USA made brute Is awesome.
I'm confused. You put the first spacer against the scale, and the second spacer against the blade. I would think that both washers should go against the blade, and the spacers against the scales.
Coincidentally I recently picked up my first XM-18 3.5" also (what a tank!). The detent is CRISP, however using the thumb studs to open it is not only painful but takes an unreasonable amount of force to open with a thumb in my opinion let alone the Spidey flick no way 😭. Fortunately for me anyway, flipping is my favorite method and it's fine on this particular knife. I'd assume the non-flippers are tuned better for their particular style of opening? What's your opinion on the detent and flickability of yours? Just curious, thanks for sharing and congrats on a great looking knife, it looks slick without the somewhat goofy looking hooked flipper tab 🏆🍾🎉
I'm reading for a long time about Hinderers because i was very interested. The action seems very hit-and-miss. I encountered people saying they have crisp, easy actions, and I have seen people saying their actions is atrocious.
@@edged_mindsetThank you for the info ❤ Are you able to reverse flick yours!? Maybe I just have a wieners for fingers lol Well well well, 11:59 why yes, yes indeed 🏆😮
@@edged_mindset I have a few Hinderer’s and the detents definitely vary from knife to knife. If you know what your doing, it’s very easy to tune them yourself. I will say that the skinny XM18’s are the easiest to flick with the thumb studs. I do have a xm18 bowie that has excellent action with the flipper or studs.
Press with your thumb parallel to the handle and do not press on the lockbar of the frame lock with your fingers. It does not take much force to push the blade out.

That's a solid tip right there! 🏆

That's a good idea, I usually just take the pocket clip off but I'll have to try that. Thanks 👍

👊 Good tip
I used the same thick washers on my Chavez. So nice!
Love seeing some mod vids keep up the great work Carter ! Still hoping for a edged mindset poker chip/edc coin 🤞🏽
😃
I put Skiff bearings in mine... oh man like butter on glass!

Painters tape also works to keep the chicago screws in place without taking the clip off
Penny is way better
@@edged_mindset I had a feeling we would be seeing more Hinderers 😂. They are addicting!
Really loving the OD scales with the bronze Ti. Very similar to mine
Same!
The Teflon washers are my favorite why to set up my Eklipse. I didn’t wear in the PB washers though to be fair
I love Teflon !

Great tips! Someone also said to slide a card under the pocket clip to keep them in place too

Facts! Just wish they did more non flilppers
@@edged_mindset I freakin love the flippers lol
The holes are hoe they internally identify the steel of the blade... get a Ti scale... lol, no liner needed...
Can you use KPL Heavy on washers?
Why not?
@@edged_mindset aight good point

The non flipper is definitly not tuned different and has a very strong detent. So if you don't like it on the flippers you won't like it non the non

bronze washer is out of place? no?
Out of place?
@@edged_mindset Shouldn't it be against the blade instead of the steel washer?
@@edged_mindset yeah I'm not sure but bronze washers usually hug the blade, like you had it on the lock side.
@birddog0 Not according to Hinderer
Carter, the holes are where they drill the blades for the coil spring on the automatic version of the XM-18.
No way! That's cool

@@edged_mindset No, blade steel identifier...
