I never was a Hinderer fan because I didn't like the aesthetics of the flipper tab, even though I love some of his ZT collabs. Picked up a non-flipper Bowie a few months ago, and fell in love with it. Swapped out the bearings for the PB washers, and found a Hinderer Full Ti stonewash scale for sale. Now it"s one of my favorites in my collection.
I’m so glad you got that, hope it stays in the collection. It’s been my favorite folder of 2024 and has been in my pocket more than any other knife since getting it. The non-flipper makes it so much nicer than the flipper option. I recall the hrc drama but with this knife I haven’t had any edge hardness issue and while using it often have only had to hone and strop to maintain a hair-popping edge.
That’s funny you mention this, I just had a package come from Pennsylvania, delivered to within five miles of my house in Missouri, then it traveled to Arkansas for three days and finally got delivered five days later. The post office has gone to hades
One scale to consider is a contoured wooden scale from one of the Etsy sellers. I put a cocobola scale on my XM 18 3.5 Bowie non-flipper and can't believe how perfect it is in my hand
Hi, i live in Cali.I had a knife go to Hawaii then come to San Diego where I live. The fun part comes now, Hinderer knives are fun to customize. I own two three inch and a 3.5 Hinderer. Never notice a problem with heat treat. Depends who you ask I guess. Happy New year.
@edged_mindset I got mine a while ago on white mountain I think. I'm surprised they still have some last I looked. I do like having a non flipper for something a little different.
I know it’s expensive, but get a matching front ti scale(preferably textured) and it really takes Hinderer to a new level. Skiff bearings also a nice upgrade
@ it’s all user preference. Part of why tri way is an amazing system,.. I’ve been tempted to try one of mine on washers. I wanna know what lunatics are running teflon washers lol
I have 4 Hinderers, 2 auto Xm-18s, a skinny xm-18, and a full size xm-18. The only other Hinderer I'm dying for right now is an Xm-18 or 24 Wharncliffe non-flipper.. then i think I'll be satisfied with my Hinderer collection lol
Be careful bro the Hinderer bug will get you quick! I don’t know what it is about them but I absolutely love them. I’ve basically sold off most of my collection except for my Hinderers. They are also wayyyy easier to get now than they were in the past. The heat treat thing is a non issue. When magnacut first came out they were heat treating it in the low 60s like they do with all the other steels and when it came out that it was supposed to be 63-64 everyone made a big deal about it. I’m assuming that’s why they don’t put new knives out with it anymore. I’m not an hrc expert by any means but I have several s45vn Hinderers like yours and you will not be disappointed. It holds up very well. I have a eklipse in s45 in my pocket as I type this and I’ve beat the absolute hell out of this knife. I have a feeling we will be seeing more Hinderers coming to the channel in the near future 😂. Happy new year bro!
Depends on the steel in my experience. S45VN is one of the better steels from Hinderer. Around 61 HRC usually which is fine for S45VN. Coincidentally I bought that same config (just black G10 scales and no bronze ano) and it's on the way to me in the mail now. I'd recommend the the S45VN over say Hinderer MagnaCut.
At least half of all my shipments, shipped via USPS, are misdirected at some point. Recently, I had a shipment delivered from MO to my local PO in MA, before being shipped to IN, before being sent back to MA for delivery. Once I had addresses in both MA and CA. I sent a Priority Mail package from CA to MA, which I tracked back and forth across the US 3X (a total of 6 crossings) before it was finally delivered, 4 weeks late! I use the automated shipping machines to ship packages, usually, and one thing I’ve noticed is that the machines, which is to say that the PO, doesn’t recognize my address, nor does it recognize ANY other addresses, whatsoever apparently, anywhere in the US! One has to wonder, how do they deliver mail?
Battle Bronze for the win! Great pick, man. The best looking lock side finish🔥. I just got a Spanto from the last DLT drop… Jade G10 show and battle bronze lock side.😎
Their 20cv was very hit or miss. I had two blades that were very good and i had about 4 of them thatvwere pretty chippy and didnt hold an edge long. I have had nothing but good consistency with their s45vn.
Are XM-18s, flipperless and with the bowie blade… all that scarce? I see them on eBay quite often. I myself recently picked up what I consider an unusual (and unusually good) Hinderer, an XM-18 Skinny slicer in Magnacut, with textured lockside and a purple G-10 scale! When I bought it, they were still available on the website, but they sold out fast!
$500 is a lot of money to have bouncing around in the mail. USPS works pretty good normally but it is always sketchy when I have something important in the mail.
As much as half my mail, especially packages, has been misdirected, at some point, costing taxpayers many millions of dollars, and customers huge delays, unnecessarily! There is no good reason a package should EVER be delivered to MY PO, in MA, and then be shipped across the country several times before being delivered!
Yeah, the post office has been shitting the bed lately on stuff. They've been having a lot of packages. Will come to the post office right by my house, then they'll ship it to the post office four hours away, then it'll have to come back.
The first run of s45 was soft. They raised the hrc on every batch after, unlike his magnacut. I have a spanto xm18 3.5” in a newer run of the s45 and it’s great. Not like 63-64, but easily 60-62 which is perfect for the edge geometry. It’s not bad to sharpen and responds to stropping nicely.
So in what way exactly did you stumble on this knife? Is that after you looked it up online ordered it and paid for it and waited for it to show up in the mail is that how you stumbled on it
As I explained in the video, I recieved a notice of some Demko AD20''s in stock at this site. When I clicked the link k to see if they were still in stock (long since sold out) this config was on the homepage waiting for me to snag it. I had not been looking for it explicitly as I assumed the chances of them having done a full right when I decide to actually look would be slim.
I have hindereers in s35, s45v, and Magnacut. The Magnacut is for sure on the soft side. The s35 seems on par with my other s35 blades, at least in edge retention; however, the s45 is not as good as Spyderco's.
@@frankwhite2132@frankwhite2132 I got one of their Maniz 2's in 15v; it takes a nice high-polished edge and retains it very well. Their 15v knives are usually sprint runs and sell out quickly. Only to be flipped on the secondhand market. You better grab it as soon as it drops 🤣
So a few yrs Back a 20cv variant tested at 58.5 l believe Rick responded back showing one test at 61 which is pretty ideal But we definitely know a Random tested super low With that said Hinderer than sent a cease and desist I know that turned ALOT of people away from the brand I got rid of mine at that point. Hopefully the HT is more reliable now and not 💯 how all the court stuff panned out.
lol that package needs its own passport so it can keep traveling around the world 😅 smh USPS 🤦🏻♂️ by the way who do you use for shipping? Have you tried pirate ship?
Brother, if you ever have to poke around to get a screw or some other part off a knife, use a toothpick. My heart skipped a beat when you used that scalpel blade. A toothpick is much less likely to leave scratches on anodization. Keep a couple in your tool kit.
@ i also recommend giving the teflon washers a real good try. Once they break in they are really nice. I also like to use super lube multipurpose grease with them. That grease is my favorite on all washer knives.
If it doesn't come in a wooden box, then it's just a piece of steel...and not a knife. A real knife maker puts his knives in a sheath, and a wooden box, before sending them out. This is mediocrity at its finest on display.
I have a Hinderer rescue I’ve had for years. Carried on the fire department job till I retired. Good knife and great customer service.
Nice!

Just bought a flipper, red/battle bronze, XM-24. Love it!
Hell yeah!
I grabbed the automatic Bowie, the perfect combination for me!!!
👊
Perfect configuration. Heat treat issue was just Magnacut and they went back to S45VN
Glad they fixed it!
I thought it was just magnacut
What about their 20CV?
@cesarcesar5129 i have ine 20cv and it has been just fine.

Bowie is deff my favorite blade shape that Hinderer produces. I have 3. 😂🎉

Where can I get the cool knife with copper in it the one you use to open the box with I want that one if I may
Paragon Knives (Ashville Steel). Not sure if the currently have made any but that is who made it

I think these are great. I really like how they do their bowie blade. I kind of want the flipper there but it's still good.
They offer it with a flipper too. In fact the non flippers are the less produced by a long shot
@edged_mindset I got mine a while ago on white mountain I think. I'm surprised they still have some last I looked. I do like having a non flipper for something a little different.
Cool knife! It was forever before I finally tried an xm-18. Next thing I knew I had another one plus an Eklipse.
😃
Awesome knife I just got my hinderer in today also with the same handle spec, can vouch for National knives also!
👊
Nice find
Great looking Knife !!!
Thanks!
I've only heard of the soft HT on the old Magnacut ones. Solid knives, I have 4 with a 5th on the way. That Bowie is lookin sweet bro 👊

I have that same one in the battle blue. Southern Edges has a ton of Hinderer.

If you like this one i have a Hinder Balisong. They dropped on DLT several years ago and i was able to obtain one. Fairley spendy but its super dope.
I'll have to check that out

I know it's being picky, but for $647 that I paid last week for my xm-24 skinny warncliff they should have a much nicer presentation.
