Austin, really awesome video showing us how to expertly install security film and your beard is looking full and fantastic! I really like the powered caulking guns. I had my windshield replaced and the installer had one of them and he explained that the adhesive is way to thick to apply it by hand to the windshield.
Fantastic and helpful vid, thanks! Do you recommend this method for interior home use as well? I'm sold on using film for added storm/impact protection in a NE coastal home--especially with using attachment or anchoring to increase its strength--but I'm guessing this particular caulking method isn't suitable for many people's interior home for aesthetic reasons? If that's the case, are there alternative attachment systems people use?
@diamondbracelette I do this for work, and honestly I’m not sure why more home owners are not taking advantage of this system to help fortify their homes . It’s a great system ! Most installers will not even think about attempting this inside of their home do to a MULTIPLE lists of reason . However, if your lucky enough to find someone who specializes in 995 Dow sil or anything related to its viscosity, it would ABSOLUTELY work wonders in your home . Please feel free to message me for more information .
Great Idea and info. Having my windows done and they want to use a silicone that 3M recommends to secure the security film. Is this sufficient enough? Thank you kindly
Should teach a technique that “rolls” the caulk into the void by pushing the caulk instead of dragging it. Requires no tape and there’s no inconsistency in the bead thickness like tape shows.
Sorry to say but I have installed security film and miles of Dow 995, and there is absolutely no way possible to do it with no tape!!! I've heard stories, fairy tails, and lies about doing so, but IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!
That technique is not a functional technique. I’ve been caulking for 15 years professionally when they shoot the caulking without tape and don’t tool it, it will fail i see it all the time next time you go through a drive through window look at the caulking it’s pulling away because it failed to adhere. Why because they shot it and didn’t tool it. The best way is properly clean the caul joint tape it so your able to push the caulking to the surface for maximum adhesion without making a mess.
Seems like a lot of unnecessary work, is this how you train people? You are not supposed yo pull the gun. Pushing is a much better strategy and the” proper way”. Its nice work I suppose but not a great way of getting there.

Hi Mitchell, thank you for the feedback and for watching. I couldn't do the wet glaze without the powered gun, it's a must for sure!
Thank you, great video. For residential window, I'm wondering whether you remove the rubber gasket first?

caulking methods aside, how do you handle aluminum storefront w/ an installed rubber gasket?
That's about 25 a lineal ft correct on top of the film & prep ? 50 a ft total ?
What happens when you need to replace the window after a break in attempt? How do you get the broken glass and film out?
We would have a glass company handle the glass replacement, then we would come in and replace the film!

Thanks for watching, does that technique work with structural sealant?

@@jonathanburg7461 wrong. I do it without tape . Easily .
How is this wet glazing
Your taping it
The tape isn't securing anything, its used to get a smooth edge, thanks for watching!
What happens when you connect the dots to form a polk-a-dot cat? What then? Huh?
hahaha!
Damn, I gotta get paid Big Money to do all that monotonous prep work !
