Hot climate also requires insulation. If the air temperature is higher outside than inside your house, air and infrared radiation from the outside will more easily heat up the inside of a badly insulated house. @@TLguitar Its usually hotter inside even in the summer, with the exception of heatwaves. Solar shading is one option. We really need to start using more reflective insulation and also phase changing insulation as that will not only help cool, but heat the home.

Our HVAC system in the house broke down years ago. Never got around to fixing it and realized something... we don't really need it. It's only over 90 degree F for a month. You start to learn tricks to keeping cool. Like not moving as much, opening windows and turning on fans during the night to draw in cool air and closing it during the day to trap it in. If it get's over 100 degrees F I usually turn on the bathtub and sit in the cool water while I stream something on my iPad.

Overall fantastic journalism, teaches me nothing to actually cool me down, is irrelevant, and aimed at the wrong people who can nothing about it, perfect.
A good solution (works, I used to do it in our last mobile but it hasn't been hot enough since we moved to need to do it here, yet) is to open your windows, close the curtains and then spray the curtains to dampen them (or hang wet sheets over the open windows if you have nylon curtains that won't hold water). The water evaporates cooling the air and if it is breezy the damp fabric cools the breeze as it comes through Learned this from friends who are from Nigeria, it was how they kept their house cool (ironically, despite being Nigerian, she is allergic to the heat, loves the Irish weather for 11 months out of the year, hates the one hot month we get) in Nigeria, cheap, and in Ireland where all you need to do is turn on the tap, water is easily available as well.
That's actually not a terrible idea!! That said I've heard what's being discussed is reducing the outrageous size of parking lots which are a real bad offender, and forcing businesses next door to one another to share parking lots as a common pool, which honestly makes a lot of sense.
Or, more importantly, get all cars electric - the lower emission will mean less of a global greenhouse effect in the first place. Plant more trees in urban areas to help maintain a better temperature within the city. Fewer streets of concrete and more with grass.

Wind towers, wind catchers, wind pumps (to draw underground water up to turn into cool vapours), underground aqueducts (qanats), wells, simple fans turned by windmill, white paint on house exterior, solar chimney, adobe brick construction, thick walls, wooden shutters and long eaves instead of glass to cover windows and give shade, earthen floors, putting the ground floor underground to let the surrounding earth take in the heat, white clay tile roofs or thatched roofs, wall plants, and shallow pools are what we need to cool our homes without electric power. Evaporative cooling, convection, and radiative cooling are the keys.
Right? I thought that was the whole point of renewable energy is that we can use it without the environmental impact being so negative. Well said. The BBC is a sick lying US corporate propaganda machine, subsidised by British taxes
AC efficiency needs improvement, AND need to be powered by solar & wind energy!
Solar and wind energy will indeed solve part of the problem, however like i already said, planes and road construction will bring all your efforts to zero.
Nobody realistically gives a crap about this. Please use whatever appliances you have to not die 👍
Why would i wanna suffer for people that dont?
Every change starts with yourself. How small it will be.
Personally I think mankind is incapable of thinking that way, so we will be replaced by another species that can survive these heat changes.
People are not even willing to give up animal products to prevent this mess. Which is the most effective way to reduce our individual impact.
That's why I hope lab meat becomes cost effective as unfortunately don't think people will drop meat from their diets anytime soon.
If god hadn't intended us to eat animals he wouldn't have made them out of meat. There is no climate emergency you brainwashed fool.
@@jackbauer5455😜🤪🤡
@@jackbauer5455 Lab grown meat demands a lot of energy. There are enough alternative options and eating more whole food plant based foods is even much healthier but people are addicted and they don't care.
@@ab-td7gq
It's not an addiction to eat meat. It's just a preference. As for alternatives, they're usually unhealthy and don't meet the same requirements.
What we actually need is a healthy, balanced diet - including meats of limited quantities and unprocessed plants.
Most vegetarian alternatives to meats are super processed, salty, fatty and really unhealthy for you. And things like legumes, nuts etc, don't hit the same nutrition levels or even get close.
OT!!!
Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python by two TV stations --WOR and WLVI!
Population reduction is the answer
Our aircon is powered by solar panels
Humanity's future is at risk due to the consequences of climate change driven by human activities. By planting trees and restoring nature we can help ensure a healthier planet for the next generation.
Or just improve air conditioners. Buy a smaller unit and keep everyone in one room during the day and turn on the house one later.
You lil poor ant, don’t use the ac cause it’s bad for the environment, but the riches who pay us, can cool an entire yacht without even living in it, but we cannot say anything 😅
In 2001 there were 5 billion people on the planet Earth today's our 8 billion people on the planet Earth 2030 tell me 15 billion people on the planet Earth lot of air conditioning 5:18
Greenhouse effects
if you want to stay cool you need to pressure your local mp's to take up green policy. im in the caribbian and its getting worse and worse each year, the storms are turning into a weather band....thats really bad. for the whole planet.
its not dropping below 93f here recently during the day, nights are 87f
you need aircon. nothing else is going to keep you healthy. but we need that to be powered by green energy at the very least if not a total new low energy aircon system. look to the middle east and chimney buildings is probably a good place to start, make modern versions that dont use electricity.
its not your fault its the fossil fuels

Overpopulation
That's the elephant in the room!!
Overpopulation goes hand in hand with overconsumption.
Why are we panicking? It is too late to change the past 150 years, and tech is on its way which will help in the next 10-20. Relax, there is nothing you can do, despite what the BBC/Government will tell you.
ok so i just need to paint my house white. thanks bbc
Poke a hole in the ozone so the heat escapes.
Make a funnel for hot air to escape from Earth to space, heat rises and space is like negative 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
UV rays will also escape down to the earth.

Expecting BILLIONS of people to change their behaviours instead of focusing primarily on TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATION is just plain stupid, sorry to say. Especially in this day and age.

That's funny all the air-conditioners in the world use as much power as India 😂....damn India a big problem
here comes all the comments with climate change deniers
They really are pathetic.
Nonsense
It is! We use heaters in the winter time. Complaining about the AC usage makes no sense. We also heat our food, water, use heat lamps for restaurants and some pets (snakes, young birds…).
Wild fires. Road constructions. Planes and factories. Blaming it on the AC is some sick approach.

Who is this garbage aimed at? the british don't have Aircon 😂
Not possible in my house grade 2 listed house. Built in 1620
Yes it will need to be destroyed and rebuilt. Sorry
Use an air conditioner. Simple.
Air conditioners are very cleared cause to analyse because air conditioners are falling down the atmosphere in the summer heavily which is increased the temperature up that's why heat is rised in southern continents especially India and other south Asian countries.

The best thing to do is getting the energy from the heating source itself. Yeah solar panels are the key to global warming.
No. Sun belongs to plants, NOT YOU

Temperature is surely above 1.5° to 2°C. 😂. But this video is made in a similar style to Ted talk Ed
It's called air conditioning, the British need too get with the times, you all still living in the Medieval Times.
Live in south Texas during the summer then you tell me you can survive without AC with the humidity. Get effed.
They will ban you from using cooling in the summer time, but will use heaters throughout the entire winter.

Who cares about stupid climate . we need to focus on how to increase economy . gdp .
Ok, so who's gonna pay for all of this restructuring? Do you realize how much work that is to completely redesign almost ALL of America and other countries? And you should also let these billion-dollar companies know the effects of air conditioning and all of this, because they seem to not give a shit.
Who cares about some cooling in the summer time, when we all use HEATING in the winter time.
How to work out what free speech is more important than saving the planet
Ah yes. Let's just change the world. It's easy, isn't it?
Were human only born by the creator? Was not there any other life with their right to exist and live? Why did the prophets and divine teachers of human Gods and goddesses not teach them to respect the others, instead of alluring them more for the life in heaven? Why did they not teach them to live better in peace and love with all the other life organs rather than to be reborn? Was this creation of different lives of different species meaningless to the creator than the life after death of human species?
