Mine bounces only when cold outside 40-50 degrees on my 68 Camaro, used white Lithium grease still problems going to try dry graphite next, hopefully that will help
One problem I have been having is a dinging sound like a door bell around 100KM/H in my 1985 s15, also have my speedo going crazy after 110 KM/H it basically goes to 6 O’clock. I will try this out and see if it fixes everything. I also get a low kinda rubber and rubber sound like my cv boot is rubbing, at low speeds. I will give this a try and see if it fixes my issue
Same issue. To me it sounds like the bell on a cat collar being hit over and over. Ting ting ting. If you found the cause please tell me what you found.
Thanks for the video! I’ve got an 82’ chevy 20 with no speedometer movement at all. This video has helped a lot just by showing me the system, even if it’s not the exact same issue I’m having!! For me, and anyone else who might be wondering, when I look at buying replacement cables sometimes they’re labeled as “lower” or “upper” and sometimes they have different lengths. To know what to buy, is it is simple as removing said cable and just measuring it for length? Or Is there some other info that idk! Thanks again!

The truck right now has mounts that arent really that safe looking to me. forsure home made. so im pulling the engine out and doing some other things with it to replace a few things but id like to find a proper 350 mounting kit for this truck before i put it back in.
Ok bro, how do you do it to a 32' GMC sitting on an 85' GMC frame/trans? The end behind a 32' speedo the same as a 85' cluster? It's mounted along the inside or the coweling against the firewall and goes down the drivers side. But the 85' Speedo cable in on the transfer case on the passenger side. Wanna give a guess on the legnth I'll need???
Dude! That's how the cable disconnects from the back of the cluster? I could never figure it out on my 85. Mine started squeaking badly when it warms up seems like.
Well I just did all that !! However there is a clicking sound that seems to still be coming out of the back of the display panel.could it be a mechanical peice not necessarily the cable itself?
I got my speedo working, but now my odometer isnt working. Are there some items I need to check on before trying to crack open the gauge clusters to figure this out? Any other tips to try before opening up the cluster?
The odometer and the speedo are operated from the same cable. If the speedo works and the odo doesn't, then there is something wrong with the gauge now. You'll have to pull the gauge and do an inspection to ID the issue.
My speedo spins when using the drill trick but when I put it back in my 54 chevy truck the speedo wont move. What do you think the problem is? The transmission input ?
I have a 1977 Chevy k20 pickup. I am looking for the part that connects in between the speedo cable and the bullet. There seems to be several different names for it. My transmission guy called it a reluctor and another mechanic called it speedo adapter drive gear. Can't seem to find the part
Hi David I have a 53 Chevy pickup, my guage was bouncing all over, I disconnected it from the back of the speedo. But my guage is stuck on 80. With your experience do you think if I pull cable out and grease it and put it back together. You think it will drop down to 0 after driving it. While driving with cable disconnected I can see cable turning , I'm hoping it just needs grease. Thanks for your help if you could answer this for me
Sounds more like a bad speedo head instead of a bad cable. Definitely try to lube the cable first since it won't cost you anything but a little time, then move on from there if necessary!
I ended up replacing my speedo cable because the old one stuck to the headers and now my speedo gauge makes this rattling sound and the needle moves back-and-forth. I was going to replace the gauge but I would like a second opinion.
Try pulling out the cable again and greasing it. Also make sure that it's strapped so there are no long segments that are loosely hanging. It never hurts to disconnect it and spin it with a drill (in reverse) so you can see and hear where the problem is coming from.
if you just need to get to the speedo cable you can simply reach up behind the cluster. If it's for something else then you have to remove the dash bezel and then you can take the cluster out.
My speedo cable wouldn't turn so I removed it and there was obvious damage, either thermal or mechanical, so I replaced it. The new one seems to be too long so I think I may not have routed it correctly. From the engine compartment, does it route inside or outside the frame rail initially? Thanks.
My speedometer cable is connected behind the speedometer cluster with duct tape. I noticed the cable end that connects behind cluster is cut in order to fit over the end. That’s why it was taped. I seen online speedometer cables with two different ends. I’m not sure which one I will need? My gauge cluster does not have a Clip like yours? What should I do?
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV it’s a 1968 C10 and the speedometer cable that was on there was not screw on. I looked behind the cluster and it had a thin threaded fitting. But the cables I looked online had a larger threaded fitting on the end . I did not know if they were going to work
So my speedometer only works when going around tight turns. Even then it only works for a few seconds after I straighten out. I've tight to tighten it up at the transmission but that hasn't changed anything. It did happen to start working when I hit 90mph though. It's still working so far but its a bit shakey at slower speeds. Any ideas as to why that happens?
Maybe it's binding on something when you aren't turning tight? Or maybe the drive gear in the tailshaft is sliding back and forth and disconnecting the cable intermittently?
Hi . If the cable is spinning and quiet . But soon as it jacked into cluster , it shows a way faster speed and makes a squeaking noise . What could the problem be ?
Pull the cable off the trans and spin it with a drill to see what happens. Its possible the cable froze in the housing or the drive gear in the trans broke. After those possibilities are ruled out then it's probably your speedo.
I just put a new speedo cable in my 51 Chevy Truck grease and all drove it for about 30 miles and speedometer/odometer stopped working pulled the cable from transmission and it was twisted and bound up. What do you think that is?
@@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV I will be checking with a drill counter clockwise just to narrow down if this happens again I know problem is in the transmission end for sure. I seen that people fully grease the transmission connector then screw it in. Should I?

My speedo is noisy on my 86 C10 but it’s my gas gauge that does the bouncing around… any way to fix that issue?
The speedometer went from working, to showing really low, to being stuck at 30mph or so 24/7, I'm guessing that's a gauge issue not a cable issue?
Pull the cable off the trans and spin it with a drill to see what happens. Its possible the cable froze in the housing or the drive gear in the trans broke. After those possibilities are ruled out then it's probably your speedo.
