Oh, Tom! First, you are one of my comedic heroes, tied with the recently departed Peter Schikele (P.D.Q. Bach). Please consider a book on your remarkable acuity in “old age”. BLESSINGS to you!!!!!
What did he say at 5:38 or so? the cc and the transcript say "proof caries". I don't think that makes any sense and I'd really like to know what he's comparing to proving theorems in your youth vs. proving ? in old age. Anybody know?
The comparison is proving theorems versus proving corollaries. (It’s mathematics jargon for the minor or secondary results that flow on from a significant or primary result.)
Special thanks to garwert for editing all this together. Really appreciate it!
Tom Lehrer's voice is so terribly missed now, more than ever.
@@SSerebraSSana Agreed 100%
Because addition is commutative.
Right 👍😉
A class act that went out on top, and stayed there! Thanks for everything, Mr Lehrer. Teach the children well...
His live album was a classic - “An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer.” Of course the others were fabulous, too! Great talent, interesting man.
Along with Revisited and That Was The Year That Was :)
Grew up with That Was the Year that Was. As kids we loved the astronaut and Kennedy sketches. Good job and thanks.
When my brothers and I were kids, every time we left the house we'd sing "So long Mom I'm off to drop the bomb..."
Hehe. Very relateable with the usage of "maybe".
Thanks for posting. Wonder what he would think of 21st century musicals.
Wow, this is from 41 years ago!
Ah, that explains the Mark Russell reference.

Sorry but I’m not Tom Lehrer🥲
@@TLSongsssOf course you’re not! Good grief…..
Sorry if I got your hopes up😂
I guess interview predates "Happy Hanukah From Santa Monica."

Thanks for the clarification :)
@@Xanthe_Cat Thank you for that. Now it all makes sense! Clearly I'm not a mathematician.
When is the picture from? Thank you for another lovely gem !
I found on Twitter. Fairly new. Thank you so much!
2021. Menachem Butler visited him.
what year is this from?
Tom refers to Tennessee Williams having just died, which dates this interview to early 1983.
Thanks for asking that. He's still alive today and one would hope he sounds like this at 96 (or teaching). What a treasure nonetheless
what year was this made
1983
