the repeating background music makes me feel like im in a fever dream
Had them for like 5 years now. They play fine and 0 problems so far. No real problems, also easy to keep dust free. But not a lot of base, but I use them with my old subwoofer. Makes them sound "richer/full" with subwoofer.
can we use this bose connect to subwoofer ?
The intro sounds like a chip tune version of "Where is my mind" by the Pixies.
+Van Pollard Yup.
+Van Pollard placebo's is better :)
Sylvex Dragonskin nope.
pretty sure it's that
Very simple and straight to the point. I went from having speakers with a subwoofer to these and it's nice having more room now.
I just picked up a pair of these used for $12 today at a thrift shop, and I have to say they're a huge upgrade from the Cyber Acoustics I was using prior.
such a lucky find! 😮it costs 150 here 😓
For anyone looking at these in 2023, the klipshe pro media 2.1 are on sale for 110$ rn and those have a dedicated sub and sound remarkably better.
Good review, but first line you say "Bose is notorious..." notorious almost always has a negative connotation.
+pyracurse I disagree
connotations dont matter
+pyracurse Pretty sure he said, "noctorious"
Sena Sensen WRONG
The word is interchangeable. If you don’t like it make your own review with the word of your choosing.
My phone does not have aux.. Should I buy this
I love these speakers for my gaming computer.....worth every penny!! Buy some!!! 💯 recommend!!!
To be honest I like the approach of a single volume control on an entry-level device. Most media players allow you to change this on source if you really want to.
Still a good choice for gaming PC in 2021?
Lindsey Sterling, Imagine Dragons, and Coldplay. I guarantee that he thinks that mayo is spicy. hahaha
I would argue with this but I feel anything I say will only validate this comment.
Porque não existe um vendedor oficial da BOSE,no Brasil? Se os seus produtos são de altíssima qualidade? Como fica a posição do consumidor?
Is it possible to connect your phone to the speakers via bluetooth also?
No.
Does anyone have issues with turning them up and the bass clips ?
There is no bass control because they are meant for PC's, which, have controllers in them that you can play around with, or download one from Realtek or Dolby or something. Plus, most phones come with them anyways deep down in the settings.
***** Is it the word controllers that got mou confused? Cause when I made this comment I couldn't find the right word, which was equilizers. So what I meant to say was, there is no need for a bass controller on the speakers themselves, because there are equalizers to play arond with on computers, which can really raise or lower bass. Make sense or not? It's a bit late night for me.
Is it possible to use it without a computer or a laptop, but only by attaching it to an Audio Mixer (like Behringer Xenyx series) directly for power (electricity) and audio needs - Meaning, total avoidance of a computer? Also, can this be used as a Monitor during musical performances to get the feedback sound?
2 major problem that makes this a return for me: 1. The wire between speakers is too short if you run 3 monitors horizontally. You won't be able to fit them on either side of your monitors. 2. It requires a power supply fairly close to the speakers. The power cord is as short as the wire between speakers so if you need to run the power cable behind the monitors to then down to the floor, it's not long enough.
Wires are fairly easily extendable with a soldering iron, or if you want to you can just buy an audio wire.
@@floatingchimney So you're suggesting I cut them, add an extension, and soder them back together. I'm no McGyver.
@@tbanks1967 Lol, trust me it’s a 5 minute job, I’ve extended my cables that way several times. You can do the same for power cable.
Are they sound good for TV?enough sound for large room?also are they sound good at high volume?
Yes. They sound good at high volume and would be good for large rooms.
can these be used for TV as well ???
You had me at "…no power brick…". Yes it has a chunkier plug, but it still appears relatively smaller than a brick in the middle of the cord.
Are these good for watching movies? I’ve bought a new LG 4K monitor but the inbuilt speakers arnt good. Would these speakers be better than say speakers in a Sony TV? Also is there a latest model of these speakers ?
Yes, of course. These would be great alternatives to the speakers built inside your Sony. Logitech also do cracking ones aswell. They're two of the leading manufacturers in this field, and their products don't cost an arm and a leg.
Clear sounding speakers but the bass does break up at not that high of a level.
Yup, its the terrible dsp they use, and no tweeters = no good for music.
This has got to be the best review I've seen on any thing. Good job covering all angles.
Nice video editing , this review is great!
Available at Target.
@Mai Va Lee I would like one.
@Mai Va Lee They sound fine. The AudioEngine models have more of a heavy metal sound to them and cost 3 times as much. They also had kind of a Naked Gun shell shock reaction when seeing them.
@Mai Va Lee
You seem like you know where to get a better product, and a better deal?
The bose universal remote took a while to work with my cable box. Does it scan it or something?
Brotha, thank you for an amazing review. Felt so calm listening to your voice with the loop in the background. Got one in the shopping cart now but this just reaffirms that I'm leveling up my life right now. Keep up the quality work!
Thank you so much! I certainly will!
does someone know a way to use them per bluetooth or alexa or something? just with an app or something
They are wired speakers. If you want to use them over Bluetooth, you will need to find an adapter to connect over Bluetooth.
Can they work on a tv?
I'm not an audiophile.. I've got an old pair of audio engine A5.. Will this be an upgrade or downgrade?
I have had my Companion 2 Series III speakers since Dec 2014, However, I can't get them to work now since my grandson plugged in his headphones. With the headphones no longer plugged in it still does not work. So far, I have unplugged power to speakers and computer, rebooted computer, troubleshoot the system and called Bose three times and Microsoft. I use to have Windows 8 and now I have Windows 10. Any suggestions? Thanks
Awesome review. Great voice.
Thank you!
I love these for watching TH-cam videos.
If I want to blast music or tune something out, I just switch over to my Bose sound canceling headset
Bought this a few months back. Sounds great.
I have some of these. Paid half RRP for them. They're not THAT bad but it's the typical bloated Bose sound that just obliterates any detail with a thick syrupy slightly boomy midrange and no real bass. If you REALLY can't have a sub then they're not the worst you could have. Quick way to improve them 10x - put your EQ on treble booster.
Do they last a long time? I don't wanna buy something if they break fast
Are they good for gaming? Gaming is pretty rough on speakers if they aren't good quality.
Besides these questions in sold on these speakers
+WyvernKiller02 I have owned these for few years without issues. Mainly they served as desktop speakers. If you will compare these spekare siwth any other in the price range, these are best as a complete package, Quality of sound is amazing, pack a punch without need of a subwoofer, small footprint and will last for a long time.
i have had these since october and i love them. they are some of the best i have ever had for the price and size
Good luck trying to take these apart if they do fail, bose love glue.
So between the Companion 2 and the Companion 20, what would be my best solution?
Great video! Very helpful and clear.
May I ask what software you used to produce this video? iMovie?
Final cut pro
Is there enough bass in these ?
No, not at all. For that you will need a separate subwoofer.
The only thing I understood is how much you love them. Would it kill you to show how to connect to PC.
it's a 3.5mm jack. Not rocket science, haha.
how would u compare this speaker to the soundlink mini?
I just got the Soundlink Mini in for review. So far, the Soundlink Mini produces sound that actually holds up pretty well compared to these speakers. The base however seems much stronger on the Bose SoundLink Mini than the Series III on the tests that I have run so far. I should have my full review of the SoundLink Mini up within a week or two and I will be sure to draw comparisons to this speaker system.
That giant plug will have a hard time fitting into an outlet strip.
Can you play audio over the speakers and a pair of headphones connected to the speakers' headphone jack *simultaneously*? I was thinking of getting these for my parents' TV.
My father is nearly deaf, while my mother can hear fine. This means they have to listen to the audio at an incredibly uncomfortable volume. Their TV (TCL 49" 4K) shuts off the built-in speakers when anything is connected to an audio port, so I'm looking for a simple inexpensive solution. Hoping these are it. Buying a stereo receiver and speakers is pretty much out of the question as is buying a soundbard with bluetooth and a set of bluetooth headphones. Thx
are these enough to upgrading my HDTV sound , as soundbar alternative? My concern is only enhancing 2.0 channel sound , no worries for bass , surround sound effect...
Can these handle electronic/dubstep without being damaged;
and do they sound as good or better compared to listening with the M50s?
Wow I hadn’t even realized this video was posted in 2014 😳
Time really flies.
I plan on using these in my small apartment's living room with a projector for movies and games. The living room isn't all that big, do you think these are loud and clear enough for that?
Definitely. They are very room filling despite how small they are.
Ditch the projector, try to get even a 32" led display I'f you're on a budget, but if you're going for quality it doesn't make sense to use a projector
Do these make any hum/noise at quiet volumes and will they automatically go to standby mode if no audio is detected for a while?
Don't know about that, but the Logitech Z130's do. They remain powered at the wall, but switch off internally if no audio is played for a while. It's a good power saving feature. These are things that you usually discover for yourself without knowing beforehand.
Am I able to use this for Ps4 and Monitor ?
there is an aux output port in the back of your playstation, so it should work
Can you tell me the distance between the cable lines between speakers? I have wall mounts that are 5ft apart for my current speakers and would like to know if these speakers will reach. Thank you in advance.
you call the 1st gen design industrial? you prefer more plastic and flimsy design?
How long is the cable from the left speaker? I can't find this length anywhere.
Is there any improvement compare with "Series II"
Timothy Chen The design is an improvement but the sound is definitely very similar.
+DragonRiderNetwork Thanks, very helpful , I will go for series ii than
Enjoyed your review and video. The song playing in the background was a nice touch. Keep up the good work.
+bizzy Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
hey should I get these or Harman kardon sound link 3
Hi, how is the sound compared to the soundlink mini?
Hi..how do you rate the sound quality of companion2 as compared to Logitech Z623? I am getting both the speakers for approx same price in my country.
2.0 or 2.1 is not an issue.
thanks!
+tejaspa63
I moved from the Z623 to these after my Z623 started to have small problems... (took a few years for that to happen)
Anyway, I am happy I did. To tell you the short story about the Bose speakers: The mids and highs are much, much better and the lows although less, sound much more controlled and are definitely there.
The Z623 is nice but it sounds cold for music and lacks accuracy in mids and highs that let you notice the little things in movies and well, they excel in games. If you mostly game go for the Z623. It is awesome for the rocket launcher action moments and extreme gunshot bass in games.
They both have their merits, just think about what you will be using them for:
Music: Bose
Music & movies: Bose
Games & movies: When gaming more Logitech/When watching movies more Bose
Purely gaming: Logitech
Then again, this is just my opinion, many people could feel completely different about this. Try to listen to the systems before you buy if you got the option to do so.
+Bas van der Meij (Ykai63) I was considering getting either of these two speaker sets, but I'm not too sure. I only game occasionally, the majority of my time goes into music. However, most of my music is Metal, Rock, and occasionally Electronica. In other words, really bass-heavy music. Should I still go for the Bose?
Selbi Inkille They do have some decent bass response, I was impressed. Though, they do lack really low bass which you could encounter quite frequently in electronic music, depending on what you are exactly listening of course.
I have to say they do very well with rock and metal as long as it is not metal core music with really low bass drops, you will be missing out on those if that is what you are into but for the rest all good. On a side note, these things absolutely smash anything at the same price when it comes to classic rock.
I'd say try to take a listen in a store or something if you can and always remember, enough or not enough bass kinda comes down to personal preference.
Bas van der Meij
Ah crap. I'm not a Metalcore fan, but I do like myself some bass-heavy Death/Black Metal from time to time. It's times like these where I wish I was more casual with my tastes, so I wouldn't have to worry about this stuff...
I will check them out in a store when I get the chance. Thanks for the quick reply!
Selbi Inkille From what I have noticed they do very well with the bass in death and black metal if it is produced well. Though, the electronic enhancement kinda fucks up the songs that are produced in worse quality on purpose, it sounds so weird. I tend to grab my headphone instead for that.
My monitor doesnt have speakers, can i connect these directly to my PC
Yes
So i now have the companion 2 series ii in my room, but i'd like to have a more surround sound feeling so i was thinking on putting 2 extra speakers in the back of my room. Do you have any suggestions for me? And is there a difference between the companion 2 series ii and series iii?
The one difference that I saw between the Series II and the Series III was the design. The look far better than the old ones in my opinion but sound roughly the same. But for speakers such as these, sounding on par with the old series II is still impressive. If you wanted additional sound coming from the back of your room, these would definitely be ones to consider.
DragonRiderNetwork Oke thank you for your help! :)
This speaker sounds better than my beats studio 2 headset....
Clorox Bleach because beats aren't good...
Beats are designed to be flat for making tracks in the studio, not for casual listening
because beats sound like shit
Hello , can I connect a Bluetooth adapter to this speakers ?
Yes.
i'm a bose fan i have the mini, soundlink,2&3,color , soundock, wave, cinemate, companion1$2 series they all sound great except bose has poor engineering on bluetooth devices specially the minis, mine keeps stopping while on bluetooth, i can't pay a full 10 song without my music getting cut off. But i found a system that as just as good as Bose. Thonet and Vander system they are good, German engineering at it's finest you have to check it out.
I'll just bought some and for some reason I just can't get them to work. I plugged them into every jack connector in the computer and absolutely nothing. My Logitech speakers worked perfectly okay so I really don't know what's going on. So really I can't give my opinion on how they work. What I will say though is that they could have provided a slightly longer lead that runs from the right-hand speaker into the computer. You are very much limited to having the right-hand speaker no more than 3 feet from the CPU. I suspect that this is a standard lead and I can probably get a longer one quite easily.
Can connect to my TV?
Pete Tupas Yes.
hi i was wondering if you can connect as a subwoofer to these speakers, great video too btw
You can't. But the Bose Companion 5 speakers have a subwoofer included. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IE8Z4Q/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000IE8Z4Q&linkCode=as2&tag=dragon00a-20&linkId=MQKRP7KUUES3QZI2
DragonRiderNetwork You can connect a sub to these, it just takes a few adapters daisychained together.
Logan Klein
specifically how? and also is it worthit to do so, or should i just buy new speakers with a subwoofer?
Most desktops especially HP actually have sub pre-out. A powered sub and your good to go. I've already tried it with Bose mediamate speakers. Those speakers are just like these. Alternatives of a good sound card would be a few cables and a crossover on your sub.
Hi, I need help, I don't know what audio cable should I buy to connect this speaker to my computer. :(
This review cleared the doubts I had. Great review. Now I know which one to buy.
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed it!
:D
I bought these speakers to use with my projector/laptop for outdoor movie night for 8-10 people. They sounded seemed to carry the sound in the store when I demoed them. I'm essentially looking for hearability. Quality would will be a bonus. As for bass, since I'll be using them outdoors in the neighborhood, bass is not the best thing to have. Anyone have any comments about outdoor use?
I get a lot of people using beats. i have to spend twice as much for beats of what i spend on bose. still like the quality.
The high end headsets for both are about 299$... Except with bose you're actually getting a quality device...beats is just an overpriced fashion accessory with boosted bass, but great for apple fans since they love over paying for low quality items to show other people.
Krzysztof Blazejewicz get Audio Technica M50x. better than beats and half the price.
OK will do thanks
Isaiah Milgroom Best headphones I've ever had the pleasure of owning! Good recommendation
+Krzysztof Blazejewicz M50x are actually one of the best but QC25s are also very good and have best in the industry noise cancellation. So if you are only going to use these at home. I will recommend M50x but if you plan on using on the go like local transport, places, trains, in public etc, Bose all the way.
Love the video very well put together
Thanks!
just baught just got them few weeks ago along with my parts for my pc build
Can I play to aux sources simultaneously on these speakers?
Yes
"beats listening to headphones."
my hd 650 set up disagrees.
Kcazbarach this speaker sounds better than my beats studio 2 headset....
Because it are beats, who have no clue how to produce good quality sound. They know how to sell products tho, so sorry you've bought into it.
HD650s are extremely high quality headphones and regarded as one of the best headphones at the "entry level" of high quality headphones in terms of price. HD650s go for around ~$400 USD normally, but can be had for $313 USD on Amazon right now.
They absolutely destroy the sound of most speakers hands down. If you haven't had any experience listening to them, you simply can't argue against them. You have to listen to them, to understand how music can sound.
Joey Hobbit Nah, I'm using my Shure SE846.... I sold my beats 2 years ago
Joey Hobbit I know what sounds good xD
YOU SHOULD HAVE WAY MORE SUBSCRIBERS!!!
+Areeb junejo Thanks! Slowly working my way up!
Can this be used for TV ?
Yes.
a nice compact system to work with my PC, I also used it outside while cleaning my patio, I like their sound. BTW - I like bass but I detest excess bass
Why are these have not enough Bass ??
I've never come across your channel or this video before. But I have to say, your editing is amazing! The background music gave the video an eerie yet professional feel, it really was a joy to watch.
Thank you :)
I will be purchasing these speakers, too.
awesomeoverawesome No problem! Glad you enjoyed it!
nice video. definitely what i m looking for. Decent sound, wont shake my room
+forever Hungry Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Whats the song name playing while youre doing your review?
if i buy 4 of those , can i connect them together?
+mike mike If you have a audio-splitter, then yes.
you made such a great video.I think that i just saw a best video about some electronic device ever. thank you for amking such a great job
+kubakobaTV Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Does this have a auto sleep feature - please reply ??
Ankur Tripathi It does not have an auto-sleep feature. The speakers just stay on.
Thanks for the Info Mate
Ankur Tripathi I was looking for a solution to this and found this comment. They do go on standby. I listen to affirmations very very silenlty and they turn off after a couple of hourse because it thinks nothing is being played. SO annoying. Can anyone recommend a solution or others that dont go on standby? thanks
+taosux1 I have already purchased one and i keep them on when not in use - till date no issues and when i start the television it connects immediately without any delay
Ankur Tripathi yes but when nothing is played they turn of. when I play affirmations very silently it thinks nothing is played and turns of after a few hours. Btw affirmations are great to reprogram your mind :)
What version of where is my mind are you using?
8 bit version of "Where is my Mind".
i use an ex software on th,e computer it makes these speakers sound fantastic
can i connect these to a smartphone?
If it has a headphone jack, yes.
what if your iphone 8 doesnt even have a charging port?
i'm an android fanboy, i think whoever buys an apple is a possible braindead
great commentary .....keep it up
1:13 thats not honest that just the specs
I went from a $20 speaker into this $99 Bose
Mine did not come with power cord with fordable plug even though I got it directly from Bose 8/16/2016.
The Fuck is with this Bass? is that a modification this Speaker does or is it just me having culture shock cause my old speaker does not produce as much Bass? or is it because I only listen at low volume?
...I set mine into "Equalizer = Vocal" yet still does not reduce the amount of Bass it had.
Never mind, I think it's because I listen it at low volume.
The moment I increase the volume, the Bass equalizes with the other frequency. Bass is so dominant if you had a very small room and play music at low volume.
mvpmickey1 b
if you care about any frequency range, don't use speakers for the love of god, get a interface and a studio monitor.
If you don't need a studio monitor to listen to music or make music, then enjoy whatever frequency ranges your speakers can do.
I bought mine refurbished for only $50 a year ago and I have to say they are pretty good for the price if you buy it refurbished. Mine looks like they are brand new with no scratches and signs of previous use.
avoid buying these speakers. I purchased the Bose Companion 2 Series III speakers for my computer and they have a design flaw. After using them for 1-2 years, the volume fluctuates too much that you can not use the speakers properly. I called Bose today to ask if they can repair my system if I were to ship it out to them and they told me they are aware of the issue but can not fix it. They said they can take my old speakers and use it as a trade in and sell me a new replacement. Bose is a scummy corporation and I will avoid them now.
In my country this thing cost 200 dollar!!! Is it worth the price ?
Bose use with DFX is awsome
what is the song played at the beginning of the video?
I get this annoying static noise from my speaker every time I move my phone. I'm wonder if it's the aux cord, maybe there's a shortage or something, or is the speakers?
Da Goat
I have two pairs of these for two computers of mine. Unless you're an "audiophile" (whatever that is supposed to mean), then you can't go wrong with these.
I feel like the new Blade runner soundtrack is a great speaker tester album
Or tron legacy
wow nice
Thanks!
notorious?
I use these for my tv.
I used to use my logitech z623 for my tv but that had way WAY too much bass.
Cup Of Bleach do you need to buy anything extra to hook it up to your tv or can you use what come with it
Can I plug in my phone on these through an aux cord
Yes.
This was uploaded on my birthday
Happy very-belated birthday then :)
Nice ending :-)
Thanks!
Why u gotta call me out like that?
