      I love it because it's a great way to find out about music you'll probably like. You find a Whats In My Bag of a band/musician you love, and then you write down the albums they chose that you haven't heard. Awesome way to find new music catered to your tastes

    Ride changed my life just a smidge less than the Smiths. Sadly by the time we really settled into the Shoegaze scene here in the states it was over and the bands were gone. Such was the accessibility back then. I hate that I still feel like I missed much of it. I got to see Ride once. Still in love with them and need a new RIDE T shirt. Hard to make them last 25 years.

      I'm gonna be a right and total arse and say how lucky I am to have been 17/18 when they burst through the fugg of late 80s/early 90s British music at a rime when we didn't know if we were still indie guitar, rave, dance, pop... The Stone Roses were unique; Screamadelica was a unique LP; Blue Lines couldn't have been amde by anyone else outside of Bristol; Teenage Fanclub were tuning their guitars in a beautifully skew-whiff way...and then came Ride. Kids with guitars, loud, loud guitars but with melody and harmony. No one played like them, no one sang like them, no one built a wall of sound like them (Ok, apart from MBV). None of us knew which way to listen - dance, guitar, hip-hop (don't ever say trip-hop), rave, distortion, beats... The mix was heady. Add in you know what and it was surely the greatest period of music. Everyone says the late 60s, hippie etc etc but, I dunno.... 88-92 was an incredible time. Enjoy them!

    I saw Mark trying to get back on the tour bus by gently tapping on the door. He stood patiently outside in the cold forever until another band member came along, gave him a disgusted look, and banged hard on the bus door. Mark scurried in on his heels. His personality fits his voice!

To see it played in order so you knew exactly what to anticipate was so unique. Missed my 1 chance to see Ride in 1990, but this was the third time I have seen them since the finally reunited. Great to see them enjoying wider appeal reaching a younger audience.

      Yes, that whole album is great. The CD's been stuck in my car for years. I always come back to it. It really is frustrating that grunge overshadowed shoegaze, but lately shoegaze has been making a comeback. I guess it was too far ahead of its time in the 90s.

      jeshkam
      Interesting...
      Its just that SoFaD is my favorite of DM (I base my least/faves on the percentage of songs I enjoy on an album), and one reason for that are the dreampop/shoegaze like sound walls in songs like Higher Love, Walking in My Shoes, etc.
      Though I liked this album long before I found out about SG, so I see it as a gateway to my love of that genre.

    • @19RaxR91
      @19RaxR91 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe so, though I havent listened to them that much. However, what Ive heard of them sounds a lot more like dreampop, which was one of the major influences on what became shoegaze.
      If you are interested, check out these songs:
      My Bloody Valentine - Soon, To Here Knows When, I Only Said;
      Slowdive - Allison, Souvlaki Space Station, When The Sun Hits;
      Chapterhouse - Treasure, Something More.
      If you like these, and want more suggestions, just say so.

    I remember the first time I came across an LP that was cut at 45, I played it and it sounded like demons, really freaked me out. That LP also came with a demo of another band that was printed on a “Flexi disc”, let’s just say that day I was questioning everything I ever knew or thought I knew

    • @squinkque
      @squinkque 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This video was the first time I heard of an LP "cut at 45." I had quite a record collection at one time but all my albums were at 33 rpm and my 45s were at 45. That's weird. Not sure why they would do it. Not enough songs on the album? I love the fact that he related his mishap at playing the 45 LP at 33rpm. I would've done the same thing. Come to think of it I actually had Victorialand but on cassette. Cheers.

    The Cocteau Twins story was great. I think Steve has better taste in music than Andy.

    As a long-time RIDE fan, this moment was so worth the wait! Big THANKS to Amoeba for catching up with Steve and Andy, but even moreso, a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Queralt and Mr. Bell for accepting the request, invitation. Absolutely thrilled RIDE are back!!!

      Are you kidding me? They're one of the most popular indie/ psych/ garage rock revival bands around right now.

      They may be one of the most popular but yet I still never hear about them from main stream artists. While I think it’s cool that Ty Segall and John support each other it would be cool to hear someone like The Strokes be like yup we love them.

    Fell in love with Ride and Depeche Mode around the same time (Nowhere + Violator) in high school, so it's really gratifying to see Andy go for Violator. Alan Moulder is an absolute genius! Love his work!
