My friend just yesterday asked me to be the godmother of her child. I tear up every time I think about it. For God to have entrusted me with responsibility over this precious little soul, it overwhelms me!
It is an honor to be asked to be a godparent; however, if the child is not being 'christened' in the holy Catholic church, say no! Also, be sure to stay safe yourself.
My mother was the only person who truly knew the faith. My father was abusive towards all of us both My Godparents alcoholics I never had a chance in my early years. My father after so many years basically forbid my mom from going to church and he is completely pissed off that I have come back to Catholicism. I am forever grateful to the small spark my mom lit and kept sort of going over the years. Knowing how much she loved my being a Catechist now and delving even deeper. And I want to thank all 3 of you for help in that, as well as Father Mike and others I have found through watching you.
God Bless you Lisa🙏
God loves you so much that he reached you through the pain.
I had been out of church for over 30 years when my niece had asked me to become the God Mother to her rainbow daughter. I had to go back to get my confirmation, which I received this year and now can not see myself leaving church again ❤
Great show. Loved having the moms on. They are truly saints.
Been asked to be a Godparent and I am a bit nervous. Also my church was getting empty during the pandemic. Now You have to get there 10 minutes early to get a seat. It feels like the Church is making a comeback. Woo hoo!
With each pregnancy we had a difficult time trying to find a set of godparents. We ended up recycling my siblings with half of our kids. The so called pandemic was a blessing for we have found a community that practices the faith. The kids are happy that they have a lot of people to choose from for their confirmation sponsors.
Great show and thank you. Don’t feel too bad Scheel. My godparents abandoned me too. They converted to JW. 😢. My godbrothers converted to other religions. Only my godsister and I stayed catholic. I was honored to be a godmother to 2 children. My godson is in the army and married. He still practices our faith. My goddaughter is planning her wedding and also practicing our faith. I was unable to have children of my own and I feel blessed to have godchildren in my life.
I never knew my godfather and my godmother lived her whole life out of state in Maine and sent me gifts for my birthday and Christmas. She was on the phone every week with my mother until she passed away 35 years ago. She kept in contact for sure and checked up on me weekly when I was a kid, but I only saw her three times in my life. Thanks for sharing your family godparents' stories with us! It brought back memories.
I did my confirmation at 17 because my family stopped going to church when I was young. I was glad that I did it at that age because I felt like it was a personal choice. I am 33 and my faith has only grown year after year.
Like Ryan D's godparents, My husband and I were godparent to a couple who converted. In turn they asked my husband and me to be godparents to their children. Their oldest daughter is now married and was pregnant but miscarried. She had wanted me to be godparent to her child. She will try again and wants me to be godparent to any children God may give her. I am blessed!
Lol you guys are funny.
Last week I missed church and catechism class. Then I stopped praying before and after bed during the week, and my dreams went bad. Almost like if my shield was gone. Which makes me wonder because today at church my priest talked about the 10 women who had their light for the wedding. 5 packed the extra oil while the other 5 didn't. I feel like the priest was telling me how important being prepared was. I didn't pack the extra oil last week and ruined my week.
The weed thing was funny cuz I am using catechism (34 yrs old) to help me quit weed (I smoked for 12 years), and it worked. I am so thankful because I know God heard my prayers and helped me.
Thanks for the cool vibes. y'all are super. Thank you for the videos.
Good ole compadres, padrinos, and ninongs
I love to hear your family stories -
beautiful to hear common family situations.
My niece has my two sisters as her godparents. This was in the late 2000’s.
This is Crazy that you guys had this as a episode, I just got off the phone with my Mom and Grandma about who was my God patients lol ( love this) !!! ❤🙏✝️
A very excellent and informative show as always! The thumbnail is brilliant and I had no idea that Fr. Rich was such a good impressionist 😂
You guys make learning so much fun!❤
I always tell people how incredibly lucky I am to have the Godparents I have, my Godparents take their responsibility seriously and have been supportive of me since my baptism when I was 3. I still have both of my Godparents in my life, we see each other often, my Godmother was also my confirmation sponsor, but very lucky to have these two amazing supporters in my life.
That funny how you mentioned the outfit for the baptism. I never liked the outfits for baptism sold in stores, it's overly decorated and too much shiny. And I'm a minimalist and simple dressing women, so I wanted to make my son's baptism to represent child Jesus (like the movies they make of Jesus' early life), so he wore a very simple white dress that reached his ankles with brown sandals. I fell in love with his outfit so much that I made another one when we consecrated to St. Joseph (he was 5 by then, so I needed to make another one) but we just added a green side robe with a brown melt and brown sandals.
Simple, is never out of fashion.
My husbands family is big on 'proxy' Godparents. Appreciate y'all
My godparents... I feel for Scheel. My godfather, I haven't seen him since I was 11. He took me to a Dodgers game. I don't know if he is practicing. My godmother, God forgive me, I pushed away... I am not proud of it.
For my kids... my wife and I had hopped to so many different churches, we didn't know anyone who we were comfortable filling that role that our church assigned us godparents for our kids. They are awesome, but again, I feel for Scheel. It is a tough subject sometimes.
Great show.i found it very interesting. My son goes to a catholic school and just loves Religion class. I think one day he will be a priest.
I’m two weeks late, but I have baptized most of my nephews and one niece (4/5). I started at 16 years old & the most recent is at 25 earlier this year. I wasn’t really sure how to be a God mother in my younger years, but I did know what it was like to have an absent Godparent. I made sure to be there for them even for the smallest tasks. I fell away from the church a few years and reconverted. I still always took my role in their lives super serious. When I read the Bible and started studying catechism, I came to the realization how important Godparents are. Seeing it all now, my duty as Godmother is very clear and they bring so much joy to my life. There’s is so much more to it. 🖤my sisters oldest step son will start RCIA soon. He’s already requested me to be his God mother. I am so honored and grateful to God 🖤
Thank you for this, needed to decline being a godparent when brother asked before his daughter was born because I wasn’t a good fit. I’m Jewish, it felt wrong, because I felt I couldn’t guide a Catholic child. Long story short, my mom is Jewish, my dad is Catholic. We shouldn’t have been baptized, my dad paid off an unethical priest to do it, wasn’t in a church and lied about the religious background of my godmother. My godmother always been a practicing Jew. I refused to attend this baptism because it was with the same unethical priest. Long story short, people need to take godparents seriously.
Idk, ive always liked confimation in junior year cuz A. I was pretty religious back then lol, B. I got to interact with other actually catholic (that i knew of) teenagers, (despite going to a catholic school, it was very small and my circle of friends had little to no faith combined), and maybe theres an argument that in those years is when u need the MOST Holy Spirit? Idk, i guess it just worked for me and not much for others
Love this show. I would like to see you discuss what’s happening now concerning talk about something happening in October. Also, concerning preaching the true teachings of the Lord instead of changing what things.
It's crazy to me none of you knew your godparents or confirmation sponsors. I guess I'm blessed to know mine and be in contact with them.
Could you get Fr. Chris Alar on your show?
Yes!
My mum's family are Anglican and her dad and Godfather were both Anglican Priests. Sadly her dad died when she was very young and her Godfather has taken on the role of my being a Grandfather for me which was incredibly powerful.
Also I am a sponsor and have fealt that deeply, my confirmation sponsor however I do not have a strong relationship with, I only have one Godparent still alive and she has a strong relationship with me.
Since this episode it has been clarified that trans people can be godparents or sponsors if it is pastorly decided it is ok.
My godmother took her role very seriously, which I loved. She left the church about fifteen years ago for a nondenominational church in our hometown. I was not okay because the preacher is rather sketchy and a known racist. Okay i may be the only one that knows but still. She left that church and now goes to a small nondenominational church she and the family has founded. (Were blood related. I’ve known them my whole life.) I don’t know what to do. I pray she returns and my cousins as well. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I was the Godmother for my grandson. I was in a wheelchair. During the ceremony I stood up and took the lite candle and as I sat down I blew the candle out. Everyone was laughing but I felt so bad. Now I could have laugh about it.
I love that my godparents orphaned me.😂😂😂 My godparent is an Uncle Pete also.
I was very fortunate. I was rebaptized bc both godpare were not Catholic. The 2nd pair were wonderful. I made sure my son received the same love.
Great episode guys, thank you!!
Can you do an episode about being a Confirmation sponsor??
I feel also that confirmation should be sooner than later the children are going into puberty sooner and they're finding themselves distracted I think it would be better to get the kids confirmed at the 9 or 10 Mark when they do communion but that's my opinion
Laughed so much at 10:00 xD
I didn't even know that there's a rule on this. Good to learn about it
I work at a Catholic retail store and got this guy who is a baptism sponsor for a 6 or 7yr old. He wasn't catholic, but I think the kid is because we were looking at St Michael medals as well as the plain cross. Now I don't know what my point is cuz I'm not even sure if the kid was being baptized catholic at an older age like that but I'll keep typing anyway
Whats the go with evil doers using the names of the God parents to put curses on you?
A few years back, they made teens , work for their confirmations. They had a requirement of service to the elderly , helping with rebuilding homes due from fire, etc. I know a few who’s kid’s didn’t complete. Really don’t go to church and neither to the parents anymore. I just never understood that.
Hallo Father, Love from Indonesia I give for you Father ❤❤🇮🇩🇮🇩
I have looked and can not find anywhere that sells Happy Baptism Day cards to celebrate the anniversary of a child’s baptism.
God Bless you Fr Rich , Ryan, and Ryan.
As always, great show. How informative!
Thank you all for tackling this issue.
Unfortunately, i too never even knew who my Godmother was until one day stopped by our home and i was informed " this is your Godmother". She seemed nice enough, but thats the only time i ever saw her, so like a lot of people, i have some mystery people who could have helped me in my development as a Catholic but was not a part of my life. I figure she had to be fairly close to my mom, but mom passed away when i was young, and what religious education i did get from that point on was inconsistant at best.
I.m more practicing Catholic now than at any other time in my life
God bless you all.
In my parish they require the godparents to have all their sacraments, and if it's a couple they have to be married in the catholic church as well.
🙏🙏🙏.Thank you
You guys are great.i love the subjects you discuss.
My godmother was oldest sister of my Mom - I got my faith and spirituality from mother and her. Then my godmother in confirmation was my mother’s youngest sister whom we shares same birthday.
❤❤❤
❤️
Thank you for this show, it is so timely as my new great grandson's baptism is being arranged. You mentioned the Christening gown, my family's traditional Christening gown was made by my great grandmother for my grandmother and her brothers. That Christening gown has traveled the country being shipped to family members. It's over 100 years old now and will be used in this new baby's (William) Christening.
Question... What do you do in the case where you honestly are not close with any practicing Catholic? My husband and I are devout however are surrounded by protestants.
i love yur new statues of the 3 of you! is that st Francis behind them all? i love my godmother shes awesome she knew me since i was 4 andi never thanked her for being my godmother till this year! shoutout out to my Aunt Tracy and my Uncle Matt!
Is it really cool a parish secretary can deny someone an opportunity to be a godparent without knowing them or their story?
I mean, we kinda want the story before letting it happen. If one explains themself and they're truly qualified, she should accept
Great show, but I have a question about a Catholic's duties/responsibilities in serving as a godparent for a Protestant child. Could you address this?
My Godfather was Italian, I am not though...I have to admit I used to love telling folk he was during those "Godfather movie years ...
I gotta say, if I were your friend, I would always make 'cannoli' and 'Michael' jokes. 😂
7pm. What if God parents pass away
What are the backgrounds of Ryan and Ryan?
In the 90s, a lot of priests and sadly many of them were Franciscans that didn’t care for Canon Law. My godmother is an atheist and my godfather is a sedevacantist. Does this pretty much mean that my baptism is not valid since my aunt is an atheist and my uncle is a sede?
I have a family member who baptized their child and each chose of the parents chose a sister each so, now the kid has two god mothers. Even though the parish allowed it, would it still be valid?
What Council is this you were talking about?
I have two godfathers and no godmother. My wife has two godmothers and no godfather. I guess it was anything goes in the 80s
My aunt and I are godmothers together for somebody. I was only nine at the time. It was during the late 70s and the parents simply didn’t know any other practicing Catholics.
What about parents who do not go to church and the godparents they pick do not go to church either.
So, I can see a situation where a teen is asked to be a godparent and later on maybe wants to marry that godchild, which is still weird and forbidden, but I can see it happening. Way more likely in yon olden days, probably. But where you see it more often these days is when a fiancé or bf/gf is converting and the only Catholic they know, who brought them into the church, is that romantic interest. I've seen that question come up a lot.
As for me... I have "3 fairy godmothers" and a deep desire to find the camcorder video of my baptism to make sure it was valid. 😅 I love my godmothers and I think they're all actually practicing Catholics, but... I have questions.
Sirius was godfather of Harry.
My son unexpectedly recently passed away and was planning on having his daughter Baptized. He leaves behind his wife and 20 month old. My Daughter in law is not Catholic is there anyway to have my granddaughter Baptized?
Will be praying for you! I’m so incredibly sorry about your son🇻🇦✝️♥️
Deepest condolences on the loss of your son, I pray your daughter in law fulfils your sons plan on having your grandchild baptised. 🙏
🎉
The parent isn't required to be Catholic for the child to be baptized. If you have a good relationship with your granddaughter's mom there shouldn't be too many issues, but discuss it with your parish priest
I have sister in laws who aren’t married in the church they were married before and they have always still gone to communion or did one has passed & there are 2 children in our family and they have 2 women HOW is this possible are the priest responsible for allowing all of the above. They are/were cradle Catholics I’m a convert and have learned more since Covid where I just listen to Catholic radio and podcasts 😢. They always joked I know more about the religion they all also went through high school in Catholic schools 😔 makes me so sad I don’t know how to bring up any of this with them 😒
I can not take serious a priest that is not sure who his godparents are, talking about the subject.
Confirmation should be done at age 12 or younger!
What's with guy on the left spitting every so often? Do they still have spitoons in the West?
Hebrews 4:14 -
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Matthew 23:8-12 -
8 “Don’t let anyone call you ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one teacher, and all of you are equal as brothers and sisters. 9 And don’t address anyone here on earth as ‘Father,’ for only God in heaven is your Father. 10 And don’t let anyone call you ‘Teacher,’ for you have only one teacher, the Messiah. 11 The greatest among you must be a servant. 12 But those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Hebrews 2:17 -
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Hebrews 8:1 -
Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
Hebrews 9:25 -
Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
Scheel as Michael Corleone?? Nah - and that's probably a good thing!
Goes to show us how little of importance you all place on Baptism and family when you don't even know which family members are your Godparents.
lol that was a terrible Brando you should be ashamed of yourself, only kiddin'. I'm part Mexican so I had a nino and nina.
Please don't use the Lord's name in vain
Hapus uang dan pipel itu, jika isng dan pipel itu todak pernah saya dapatkan, hapus di akun saya.

Moses Cross, sebenarnya agama kamu apa, orang lain bilang agama kamu Islam Catar, saya bingung agama kamu banyak sekali, katanya India Katolik, sekarang dibilang India Hindu, Islam, Katolik, Hindu, Budha, atau Protestan. Saya bingung kalian tidak jelas dan membuat saya bingung, saya tidak mempermasalahkan agama, agama manapun asalkan baik.
I love and appreciate your content but making "gay" jokes is beneath you.
To be honest, I don't think it was intentional. However, this is a reason why I don't recommend TCTS to my friends. It often devolves into “The Catholic Bro Show.” I continue to watch and support TCTS because they provide a lot of useful information in an accessible way. It's just annoying when they become too informal and crack wise about things we don't know. Focus is so important.
Ya know I like how you guys have a good time doing your show. Its pleasant. But for F's sake.....rules, rules, standards, codes, requirements, more rules.....there are a million reasons I would never be Catholic again and this would be way down the list but again...for F's sake....if God even existed and was an all knowing, loving, powerful, omnipresent father....would his children really need that giant f-ing rule book your reading out of? And a paid interpreter to keep tract of all of the rules? Blahhhhh!
