Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing at Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw, you enjoyed the powerful performance of the band. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Nightwish uses an actual London Symphony Orchestra for background (symphony part) + their instruments (metal part) to sound this good.
It's a shame to lose most of it without proper headphones.

16 key changes, 10 minutes of build up, euphoric instrumentation and one of the best vocalists in the world. Whats not to like?
Floor is just fantastic, putting aside her accuracy and power, her vocal tone is just so nice, its instant goosebumps for me. Its worth checking out other songs from this concert, they are all great and quite varied.
And several time signature changes, 3 in the first minute and a half.
you also have to love just how Floor can take control of the fans
Welcome to NW Follow the Eve, you just met our 6ft Queen Floor Jansen (Dutch) 3rd and current frontwoman of the Finnish Symphonic Metalband NW. She is incredible. 10 Months earlier she came as a substitute for Anette Olzon, who became sick in the middle of a world tour and had to go to the hospital. NW called Floor and she said yes. She had to learn the setlist in 48 hours (there is a documentary about that) and did this on the flight from the Netherlands to Salt Lake City, where she joined the band on their way to Seattle for the next concert. GLS wasn't even on the list, but because she loved this song so much, NW put it on the list. The last part of the song the previous singer(s) didn't do, so she made it her own, with as result 10 months later at Wacken 2013 this MASTERPIECE. When she belt so high,you get shivers or goosebumps we call that a FLOORGASM. Congrats with your first one. @@FollowtheEve hey Follow The Eve ! , Welcome to the best band and female vocalist of our time, I know bold statement but if you take the journey you will understand ,the YT fan base is massive,passionate &very active, 80% of which is for the Floor era,GLS is the epitome of Symphonic Metal with more of a classical influence as is many of their compositions but many from this concert are much heavier ,also GLS is the most reacted to song on YT ever with several vocal coaches having over 2.5 Million views .But this was but a very small taste of what Floor & NW has in store for you.
*there are 2 pivotal events since Floor Jansen came aboard NW in late 2012 #1 Wacken 2013 - #2 Beste Zangers 2019 at this popular Dutch tv show filmed on Ibiza some top Dutch singers past & present get together and the person on the center couch for the day has one of their songs or a song that has meaning to them sung back to them reinterpreted by the other singers,novel idea .
Floor opened the show with the 1st song below and just blew everyones mind,only two of the other singers knew who Floor was but none of them had heard her sing with such versatility,after the 8 day run of the show Floor's & NW's popularity soared,stadiums filled up and ticket sales shot up.btw since Floor joined NW & after this show NW's fan base has tripled . on Mama by Samantha S.Floor completely changes the tempo and song structure ,the song is about Samantha wanting to be more like her Mom, Que Se Siente by Rolf is originaly a merenge ,mambo type song so of course Floor does it her way,Winner by Tim A. he wrote for his brother who has Spina Bifida,

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+).
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other vocalists are -
Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals.
Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals.
Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera.

Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on TH-cam where she regularly posts covers of songs.
The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is extremely varied.
The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible.
Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Romanticide, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Ever Dream, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken).
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.

You need to know that none of their songs are alike. Ghost Love Score is one of their epic and melodic songs, but they can also go pretty heavy on you and the next song you listen to could sound very celtic or even jazzy. You have now heard some of the skills our 1.83m Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen has to offer. Just wait when she gets in full Dutch Windmill mode with her hair. As I am a Flooraholic from Utrecht, The Netherlands, here is some background information on her.
She joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. My favourite song is 'Energize Me'. They made a very beautiful music video out of that. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also spent some time at the Conservatory to learn some more classical singing. 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song, such as from full operatic to serious growls in seconds. The songs 'Disdain' and 'Wild Card' are good examples.
Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour ('Please learn the setlist in 48 hours'). The lyrics of the songs of Nightwish are very poetic and the music as a whole is very challenging, but Floor pulled it off and she stayed for the whole world tour, culminating is this iconic Wacken 2013 Open Air festival which set new standards in Open Air concerts. It was obvious that the match Nightwish and Floor was made in Walhalla, so she became a permanent member of the band as the relationship between Nightwish and Annette was strained even before she got ill.
Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp'for a couple of years, but it became clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died' is a must see.
Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on TH-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa', and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini.
As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered TH-cam in the last year and a half and uploaded many interesting videos on her channel. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing this at Wacken. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of the presents she left there. Floorgasm alert!
Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughter Freja (turned 4 years last march), a horse and pony, a dog and a bunch of cats, she found this.

Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of almost four octaves (D3-G#5-F6). When listening to her sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a Master vocal coach. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. You are both just starting out on this journey, I envy you.....I am 47 years old and I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite bands of all time. I was introduced to symphonic metal back around 2005 (searching for bands with a similar sound to Lacuna Coil) and this band is in the top handful that are the cream of the crop in this genre. You are going to have an amazing journey exploring not only this band, but the genre of music as well, you will not ever listen to a song from them that is bad or mediocre, everything is a rollercoaster ride of enjoyment. You will no doubt be given a playlist of Nightwish songs to listen to by others that would in all probability mirror what my suggestions would be and I would listen to them all. There are dozens if not hundreds of bands that are a great listen in the genre but the ones that share the mantle of top contenders with Nightwish are in my opinion Within Temptation, Epica and Sirenia. Other bands worth considering in my opinion are: After Forever, Aina, Ambeon, Autumn, Blind Guardian, Darkwell, Delain, Blackmore's Night, Kamelot, Leaves' Eyes, Nemesea, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, The Gathering, Theatre of Tragedy, Therion, Visions of Atlantis, Xandria, Avantasia, and Ayreon just to name a few. When you get several Nightwish songs in you can give them a listen also if you likeand may find more that you'll enjoy.

this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6)
Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. If you follow the "road map" Gabriel gave you you'll have a safe and pleasant journey, it's been tried and tested.
When this was recorded Floor had been the replacement singer of Nightwish för just about 10 months. She did her first show in Seattle Wa on Oct 1st 2012 after the band fired Anette, their second singer. This was recorded Aug.3rd 2013.
This song wasn't on the set list for the tour originally since Anette didn't have the vocal ability to perform it. But Floor had heard the song when her first band After Forever" toured with Nightwish when Tarja, their first singer, was still in the band, and she loved it. So Floor asked Tuomas (the guy behind the keyboards) if they could make it a part of the set list. And they did. There's som minor variations in the backing between Floors and Tarjas version, mainly that the choir have been reduced in volume. There's a video on youtube from, I think, Argentina, recorded Dec15th 2012. And there's one of Tarja doing it too. If you want to know more about how Floor got in to the band I can recommend a documentary, also here on TH-cam called "Please learn the setlist in 48 hours"
And "that instrument" is just Tuomas keyboardstand, it's a tribute to a Sibelius monument in Helsinki. And it can hide a bottle of wine or two too. 😉

Little suggestion: either turn up your mic more because we can’t understand you over the music or better yet, pause more for commenting. Then rewind a few seconds and restart. That’s in case you pause on a high point in the song. I like reactors that pause and give their thoughts at the moment. That’s why I’m here. 😄🤘

Welcome to the wonderful world of storytelling by Nightwish and their incredibly talented singer Floor Jansen (pronounced: Yahn-sen). So in the end you also got to know the one and only queen of symphonic metal: 'FLOOR JANSEN'. And we noticed that you are already completely FLOORed. Although the band is Finnish, this front lady is Dutch. Gabriel Bardac will tell you all further details about her. Follow his suggestions starting with the other songs of this concert @ Wacken Open Air festival 2013.
This was song #13 of #15 so there's a lot to look forward to from this concert alone. Besides that Floor, both with and without Nightwish, has sung so many more great songs that we'll leave it at that for now, but be warned: you're far from done with her.

Yep there's a lot of people - that's the Wacken Open air, the largest annual Metal festival in the world, and Nightwish was headlining that year. There's roughly 80.000 people in that crowd.

Southern California contingent of NW Army checking in. Welcome to Nightwish! While GLS is a great introduction to this band, you'll find as you listen to more, that this is not their most epic song. Their "Best" is in the ear of the listener, and everyone has their favorite. But with NW most have to accept that they have a Top 10 because there are just too many GREAT songs to choose a single favorite. Lastly, I agree with the many, many commenters that recommend headphones. It appears that you are gazing at a laptop, which is adequate for video watching, but you really need something better to truly hear the performance. Good luck on your journey.

I get the genuine reactions but when it comes to Nightwish, 2 songs absolutely have to be researched and with lyrics in order to understand it or you're completely depriving yourself of the full experience and the feeling of the songs. Im not saying watch it ahead of time. Im just saying look up what its about or you're only doing yourself and your reaction a disservice if you don't know what they're truly about. Only these 2 though.
#1) The Poet & The Pendulum (live at Wembley). It's insanely deep, personal and based on a real situation that happened. Basically the firing of the 1st singer. Its Tuomas lyrical suicide. Just trust me. Lyrics and research. Or the reaction wouldn't be genuine because you wouldn't know the reason or meaning.
#2) Master Passion Greed. THE HEAVIEST SONG OF NIGHTWISH. (There is no live version as they will never play it live for personal reasons. Same situation. Aimed at first singer but mainly her husband. Its angry af and their hardest track.)
