  • “I’ve been a public servant for my entire life. I just haven’t been a politician.” Maryland’s first Black governor-elect Wes Moore shares why he chose to campaign in areas that had few Democrats, what he believes “patriotism” really means, and how his life experiences influenced him to focus on building pathways for “work, wages, and wealth” for Marylanders. #DailyShow #Comedy

I was born in and grew up in Maryland and have to disagree that Moore didn’t stand a chance. Yes, Hogan was a Republican but he was the antithesis of Trump. He banned fracking in the state, he took the pandemic seriously and didn’t take for granted that most of the state had zero interest in being led by an extremist idiot. Maryland is the second highest educated state in the union and Moore was pretty electable when all is said and done.

I really think to improve education, especially given the "80% by five years old" statistic, we should start educating children before pre-K, especially in areas that lack resources or where parents have limited education. That type of investment would change generations, especially if it includes parents.

Powerful. I met Wes on the campus of the University of Arizona in 2014. The Other Wes Moore was a great read and the common read for the UA's Honors College. Wes gives me hope!

Got a huge 2004 DNC vibe from Governor-elect Wes Moore, similar to a young politician that gave a historic speech at that event. (And, I have a wonderful one liner I'll be saving for the next baseball cap wearing "patriot" with too much to say.)

I live in maryland and my pay been going down every year for last 8 years. It forcing me to sell my house and move to Arizona because I can't pay all my bills. I lived In Maryland for 42 years and have skills but the pay for want I do will cover the cost of living in Marylan. I was better off in the late 90's till 2010 after that it been a struggle. I will miss Maryland just can't afford it anymore.

Wes Moore is Progressive and as a Marylander who votes Democrat but with Progressive ideals, I'm also hoping to see that he bring actionable reform to healthcare, particularly for universal healthcare, into the state. I'm especially interested to see what conversations & partnerships he'll forge since we're a state with such highly regarded teaching hospitals Johns Hopkins University and University of Maryland, not to mention since MD is where CMS lives. I've worked as a non-clinical hospital administration staffer the past 6 years at bith Hopkins & UMMS, I've also worked as a contractor for CMS & for a Medicare-based insurance company so really have a vested interest in healthcare reform.
