  • Unfortunately I dropped my recently purchased Honda Blackbird and broke the fairing. I decided to patch it together using a reasonably priced plastic welding kit from Amazon. It works pretty good, more practice will make it a useful tool.

Awesome now I can finally fix my Bucket Buddy 🤣. My boss had one years ago that would use ground up plastic to "weld". This looks pretty interesting and not a bad price.

I have used my soldering iron and zip ties as filler rod to do stuff like this before. For the price, this tool works great.

I was given a demo on these and the dude said to twist the gun slightly with the clip still hot that way it imbeds the clip under a layer of spastic 😂 if u were quick with a small flat bladed screw driver u could flatten some of the spastic over the clip to help lock it in

Cool little tool. Thanks for the Demo. Might pick one up just because. In the Remote Control Car world i repair Lexan body cracks with drywall tape and blob on E6000. That keeps the body flexable in crashes. For Scale bodies that use a similar plastic as to your fairing i use small window screen mesh and E-6000. Have rolled and crashed many a RC cars and no effects or future tears from the repair.

I always hear about E6000 but never used it. Anyway, the plastic welder works pretty decent for the price. Hopefully I don’t need it for my stuff anymore!

I've used a similar tool with equal suggest. Great advice, practice on some scrap pieces 1st. Getting a feel for how much pressure to use too much & you're right, it goes thru the material.Too little & the repair won't hold. 'staple' selection is just as important. I've also found some tight or akward angles just can't be done from backside necessitating more work to the finished side. 😁👍

Yeah, I can see this being pretty helpful. Even saving this piece has paid for itself.

You could probably put a little of fiberglass resin on the back after some sanding.

Yes, it’s a good idea. The staples hold it together pretty well, when I decide to make it perfect I will probably put some body filler on the outside and adhesive on the inside.

Well yes, if you want it returned to perfect. I just wanted it back in one piece for now. It’s a 20 year old bike, I am not that into it to spend the time or money on it.

I’m just going to leave it like this for a while. I might get a set of aftermarket bodywork and paint it?

I keep a few broken motorcycle fenders and fairings pieces around and cut plastic off those to use as filler material.

@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures I always thought those little wires went transverse to the crack, to spread out the loads, and I was actually wondering how to fit them in tight spaces.
Then I watched this and had a head smack moment.
I'll definitely try to fix mine rather than buy a C.O.C.K.
Luck to you as well, and even the cruiser guy...
