So I’m a noob. And Been reefing for about six months. One of my first corals was a neon green rhodactis. I just got home from work and saw that a piece of him broke off and was about 6 inches away from it’s self. I freaked and I looked you up online and saw that that’s how they reproduce I am so happy that I’m doing it the right way. Thank you Than for your wisdom!
I bought my first rhodactis about four months ago and it is without a doubt one of the best corals I own. It’s survived a tank nuke and has split three times already and looks like it’s on its way to splitting a fourth. When I got it, it was only a single polyp too. Awesome coral! 👍
Awesome. Love the new video quality. Hope your redoing more spot light on corals. I have watched all your coral spot light videos and a revamp with newer info and better quality is awesome. Thank you Than. I am new to rhodactis mushrooms the colors are amazing.
@@VannatterR That’s true but really anything that is used to capture food and leads to a gastrovascular cavity is usually called ‘mouth’ in zoology. Flatworms have one opening too, just like corals, and that one opening is called mouth. Most cnidarians have very simple openings but corals and anemones actually possess quite complex pharynges which scientists consider analogous to flatworms pharynges. It certainly makes more sense to call it a mouth than to call it an anus. The first priority for such primordial animals is to have an opening for feeding. Having an anus is just a bonus for more complex animals.
This was an awesome video. I've got a green rodactis mushroom with a blue mouth. It grew a bounce bubble. It has been in my tank for 3 years . It is huge. Have you ever heard of this ? Noel
Some bounce mushrooms grow them naturally. If a Rhodactis is given too much light, they can form oxide radicals and form bubbles, but those are actually a sign of bad health. The first time I saw a bounce mushroom I thought it looked stupid because I associated those bubbles as unhealthy tumors.
Tidal Gardens Inc. Thanks for the info. I must be lucky. Mine is healthy as a horse and at 8 to 9 inches in length. It's never split and has produced 25 pups. Noel
I once picked up a Superman Rhodactis rock for a steal. I got it for $75 and it had 6 heads. It did nothing, the 1 year I had it in my ULN SPS reef. I removed it and placed it in my neglected nanocube. I swear it double in size the first month.
Not sure if I'm missing the information somewhere in the video, but I'm new to the coral community. I have a hairy mushroom coral that seems to retract st odd hours. Is that normal behavior or should I be attempting to adjust something?
Any tips for removing mushrooms from a rock, I have a rock that seems to off broken out with a thousand spores of aptasia, iam going to pull the rock but I would rather save the mushroom attached.
Great video....I have two beautiful rhodactis mushrooms that disconnect from My rock Work and now they are floating around the tank...I tried to reconnect them but it’s damn near impossible....what’s your recommendation???
I would put them into a low flow section of coarse rubble and allow them to settle and eventually attach. After they attach to the small pieces of rubble, you can glue them to a large piece of substrate.
I cant keep mushroom coral alive for 4 months, for some reason i dont recommended this for beginners, stick with zoas gsp and clove polyps, heck even favia is hardier than these ricordea, my favia has grown 5 head since while my rics continues shrinking to existence
I appreciate you, and your knowledge. 🎉
With this quality of video and info, I'm surprised this channel hasn't got to 1M subs yet.
holy cow, this quality is soooooo good on my 4k monitor. Breathtaking quality. Good work.
Had to watch again and again.

I love rhodactis mushrooms. It’s so fun to feed them, not sure how necessary though.
Nice video. Mushrooms are my favorite corals 👍

I had a 10 inch elethant ear and within in a year it has quadrupled in size and I have fragged it into 2, this surprisingly made it grow even faster!
Thanks again Than
Nice coral. I have now one orange ricordia. Love it. Want some more 😉🖒🖒 nice video
I just bought one of these the other day because I totally fell in love despite the high price. Glad you posted this video!
One of my favorite corals ever, just never had any luck other than witj disucsomas.

Nice video with some good information :)
Great vid. Lots of great info here..
Very informative, nice video I have multiples mushrooms in my system
wow, thank you - I didn't realize that some mushrooms propagated differently!
I'm in the "if it has a mouth it's supposed to eat" camp. Otherwise it wouldn't have evolved/kept the mouth.
how can you tell the difference between a mouth and an anus?
@@VannatterR Corals don’t have an anus
@@cxaxukluth5432 technically they don't have a mouth either...

I have a red and green Mushroom that came hidden on my live rock. Within two weeks it’s split. Thinking it’s a discosoma though
I got mine for 15.00 a few months ago. He has grown 2x in size
SBB Linaged ” Purple Monster bounce” - Sbb Corals is selling for 9k.
Is there a particular light kelvin to use for mushrooms?

my rhodactis hasn't split once in the 1 year i've had them lol!
riccordia floridas multiply like mad, yumas not so much
Lawrence my Florida won't split😂

I have a small hitchhiker that looks exactly like what you have at 0:20. What is it?
Looks like I got my answer at 0:56 :-).
Any tips for removing mushrooms from a rock, I have a rock that seems to off broken out with a thousand spores of aptasia, iam going to pull the rock but I would rather save the mushroom attached.
How do you grow a bubble so it can bounce ????
What if my mushrooms change colour to purple/blue once in tank from that orangy brown?
What is the name of the mushroom at 3:10?
Help my rhodactis is floating around and losing its color. My other corals are find though

Can these mushrooms touch other types of mushrooms, like red or blue ones that aren't the same species?
everyone says there easy but mine come off the frag ,like it doesnt like the water ,confused?
I love mushrooms soo much😍 check out my the video of my Rhodactis Crazy Bounce shroom😉
Well, I still prefer the discossomas and ricordeas, but they beautiful too
Ahhh great video BTW
Whats the specific name of the one at 4.15 pls.
Hey there, whats the name of the NOT AN ANEMONE at the beginning of the video?
Pseudocorynactis
I'm in love with it
I got a 5 inch pin cushion
what is the purple mushroom coral with the green tipped tentacles gmail me
i love these but like you said, for a price... lol . Maybe one day i'll take the plunge
oh wait I have the hairy green , a yuma and ricordia I guess those are in the Rhodactis genus
Ricordea yuma and Ricordea florida are their own Genus (Ricordea). Rhodactis are a separate Genus.
Tidal Gardens Inc. that would be why I didn't hear those mentioned lol. Thank you for enlightening me, Than!
Than, your videos are always of ridiculous quality. Also, I love shrooms and will probably watch this multiple times.
I have a 7.5 inch hairy mushroom
lol, i bet you say that to all the boys.
My rhodactis never grows or split
My rhodactis takes forever to grow
I cant keep mushroom coral alive for 4 months, for some reason i dont recommended this for beginners, stick with zoas gsp and clove polyps, heck even favia is hardier than these ricordea, my favia has grown 5 head since while my rics continues shrinking to existence
Maybe something toxic to them is in your tank. Shrooms are one of the easiest to care for
For a price😂
Look at my tank
You make reef builders look like a noob lol
