Thanks for very nice review, I have just ordered a DGT Centaur and its looks very nice indeed, as you said, its a change from just watching a computer screen. Thanks.

I received mine yesterday! It's really amazing, I like how it plays. I noticed it easy adapts to my (low) ELO rating, and in a human-like way. Really nice.
The board is pretty large, but not too large. And to my own surprise I actually like the hard white/black coloured pieces. I wanted wooden pieces, but these are really nice in the evening. Nice contrast. The most amazing part of this board is that you can make different moves than the computer is asking you to do. Ideal for experimenting different openings.

Say you play a friend over the board, does it save the games you played?

@@ConcreteBombDeep Out of the box no. Seems you can hack it to do so, but I have no experience with that.

Display should have been in the middle of the board to act as a chess clock for OTB games, and buttons on both side to turn on opponents clock.

I already have the Millennium King performance, it is a really great machine!
The only thing I dislike is you have to push the squares down to register the moves.
I might buy the dgt centaur as well, has anyone had the experience of using both machines, if so, which one do you prefer and why?

I own both..just bought the Centaur today. Surprised to see it does not seem to have an average time/move option. I always play at 5secs/move, not a set time/game. Otherwise it seems to be all you can ask in a chess computer.

Yes, you can have a standard game between two players

It responds a bit slow doesn't it .. for expert mode I would have thought it would respond quickly at least in the opening. Hmmm....

Can comeone help me with choosing? I need something like this from point of view of hardware, but I need much more levels of dificulty starting from completely dumb one with ELO around 300. I need it for my little son who just starts with chess to play and progress through levels as he gets better. Machine even experienced player can not beat is useless for me. But I really like the hardware of this one :/

I know it's been a year since you posted, but for future folks reading, the best choice for a beginner might be chessup . it helps with highlighting all the moves . check into it

I think he set it for expertise so that may be the reason. probably in friendly mode it would just do it and perhaps have time left to sing a song

All you have to do is move the pieces back in reverse order. Easy to do for one or two moves. If you move a piece back to the wrong spot or fail to replace a captured piece, it'll show up as an error. I found that if you want to go back several moves, it's best to switch to analysis mode where you can go back move my move to see the board set up. Otherwise, if you try to reverse too many moves, the computer is going to keep suggesting it's next move which gets annoying.
