Your video helped persuade me to buy it today. Exactly what I want - a lovely, simple, self-contained unit for practice. I've no need for one that link-up online or to apps.
My First game today with my new DGT Centaur was a Draw. DGT was up a pawn and I sacrificed my knight to get the last pawn. After this only 2 kings left. So we did what all kings do after the troops die. We had a beer and spoke about the war. Then signed the Chess treaty
Please do not! Use your phone or computer and buy a standard chessboard it is a cheaper and MUCH better solution, because you can use different engines.
I have seen this board previously, thanks to your tantalizing presentation, I'm almost tempted to grab one. I have the DGT Bluetooth which is within itself very nice too., I do like design and features of this board. The Queens Gambit thankfully has caused a resurgence in chess. Thanks!
Great down to earth review. The circles that appear dancing around the board when you first switch it on has been implemented by DGT while the Raspberry Pi Zero which operates the board boots up.
The muted colour of the board was not appealing at first, after purchasing one, it grew on me. Found it easier to concentrate on the pieces rather than a loud board. Although the reason for those muted coloured squares was to see the lights.
It’s a long long time since I played chess but seeing this review created a resurgence of interest in me. I think this device is absolutely brilliant but I’m not sure about the price, it’s a bit strong for me. Very, very interesting review though, thanks.
Thanks for the video mate. Just an FYI.. when you play Knight to c3 against the sicilian, instead of playing Knight to f3 as your next move try playing pawn to F4 then Knight to f3 after that..it's called the grand prix attack and catches a lot of sicilia players off guard. Gives a very dynamic attacking game. Anyway..thanks, looking forward to more chess videos
Excellent !....i love chess though i am pretty poor at it! Lol.....currently I have a dgt usb board that i think is fantastic...but I would like the centaur for a quick game without the need of a laptop plugged in all the time....very tempting...cheers
Got one of these, too. I bought a different set of pieces for it: th-cam.com/video/E5pfnuhb9Ss/w-d-xo.html. I also have a Millennium King Performance that I love, in addition to several chess computers from the 80's and 90's, such as Mephisto MMV, Novag Citrine, and an Excalibur Grandmaster.
I wish there was a real level adjustment on this like other computer boards instead of just the friendly and tournament style plays with adaptive level.
@@HarryBunnGRVOTV meh I don’t really like playing against Stockfish. I’ll just keep using my Novag citrine with Deep Fritz plugged in. Might buy HIARCS too :3
Did you add wood pieces to it. I did. It’s great. Much nicer with the wood pieces. The touch feel and the visual aesthetics. I’m loving mine. Only had it about 2 days. Great
does the board know which piece is which, as in when you set up a random position, can you just plonk a piece on a square and it would know which piece it is?
Dear sir, you purchased this board about a year ago. You said in this video that your rating was about 1190 at the time. Has it helped with your overall play? Is your rating higher now? Cheers, and thank you for this excellent video!
Has anyone worked out how to Bluetooth dongle for iOS apple iPhone or iPad connect Centaur dgt to iOS apps like lichess so the game board and the app keep the same game going connected and live moves with anyone in world ?? How to make it so … possible what dongle to buy and how to set it all up to work. Anyone been successful on Centaur dgt to lichess live on iOS iPhone app and iOS iPad lichess app. ??? What steps what hardware what interface ?? What steps and method.
One thing I do not like about this board and pieces is that the pieces are too light and slide around the board like ice skating! That's crazy! You cannot play blitz on this surely!
How Hard is the Friendly Mode? im not playing Chess often But I Beat my friends most of the time in chess. Would I have a Realistic chance to Beat the Computer?
I really like it, but I'm just turned off by the fact that there isn't a real life match time system, like in a normal tournament. It's so simple to implement so I don't really understand why they choose to not implement it.

Sounds like a hell of a deal, I am ordering a DGT now!
😂😂😂
Can see why chess has become popular again during lockdown and chessboards like this are a great addition.
That's a nice looking chess set. I love how the white/grey board contrasts well with the traditionally coloured pieces.
I need to stop watching videos like this. I'm afraid I'm going to buy one of those!

No it hasn’t. You’re welcome.
Thank you sir. Greetings from Verona - Italy. I just bought it from Amazon and thanks to your guide shall surely make the most of it.
hei ciao! sono italiano anche io e vedendo il tuo commento mi sorge spontanea una domanda...come ti ci trovi?
Thank you for sharing this. I do am tired of playing against screens. :)

Thanks for the review…I’ve just ordered one👍🏼
Great review Sir!
Clear and straight into it exactly what is needed👍

when it goes under 250 I'll buy it. It's just to expensive now.
We have some A-Grade Centaurs available if you are interested, although the on-line store is closed until Monday 3rd May 2021 (Away for the weekend)
@@libriumgames6058 Do you still have any A Grade Centaurs for sale?
"It doesn't interfer with my thought process".... That sounds great, lol
Thank you for this video man

Great chess computer,
The price does seem a bit steep to me, but on the plus side you will never be bored again!
So beautiful and minimalistic but so expensive

I still haven’t won yet but i do feel like I’m learning & getting better.

Nice chess pieces, hope to have one someday, even if the pieces only
it would be awesome if you could change color of the board also
I wish there was a real level adjustment on this like other computer boards instead of just the friendly and tournament style plays with adaptive level.
I guess you would need the next model up with the more modular but flexible setup.

@@jamesjefferson8916 Apparently you just stick some aluminum round stickers on the bottom and it works, saw that in a youtube video.

They should've made it able to connect to the internet.
Amazing wil it still work if you changed the original pieces to better metal ones ?
This chess is exactly what I was looking for. Is there a link where I can check the price / order?

can you setup a position and continue from there.
Yes.
Does it come with an extra queen for pawn promotion... Or is that even possible?
does it store pgn automatic so you can analyze and check your games?
Thanks for the video. Can you play 960 chess?
I don’t think it has a built in randomiser but you could use the ‘set up board’ function & randomise the pieces yourself & then play the game.
How many levels of callange is there?
One thing I do not like about this board and pieces is that the pieces are too light and slide around the board like ice skating! That's crazy! You cannot play blitz on this surely!
hi from italy... shop in England? where Is this shop? have a link?
Can it used for Chess960? Thanks
what level did you play?

When you avoid big mistakes: yes
can i save the game and upload it to computer?
No. You can pause a game and come back to it later.
You Can always take à picture of the movelist...
