From the commentator who brought us "The little tank that could", he has come to bring us "The little ship that could" a sequel that comes to us on TH-cam, thank you Jingles!
Man, with every video you've published since the completion of your office, production is as good if not better than before you moved. Very proud of you mate, keep up the great work 👍 👏
I agree with Jingles, the Icarus isn't a destroyer with one or two fantastic tricks, it's a destroyer that is 'good enough' in most everything it does. I frankly like this boat. Plus, paraphrasing Top Gun Maverick, it isn't the ship, it's the Captain. Bravo Zulu Buda ... Well done!
One thing you’ve taught me jingles, is that when in a DD (mainly speaking on my fletcher and gearing(also legends) is that when I’m out spotted I wait a second to do anything and just sail in a line, as once I’m spotted the other DD almost always smokes up, opens fire/torps, and turns out too get away before there spotted usually resulting in many mistakes you can punish properly
The Icarus is where I really started to get a feel for the UK DD line and it's a fun little ship. For T6 it's concealment is pretty good. In fact the only thing I don't like is the turret traverse, which is very... Japanese-like in it's painful slowness. It suffers when double up-tiered, but most T6s do. I do like Buda did play the ship 'historically'; British DD doctrine was a very aggressive one (Battles of Narvik, Glowworm's last engagement, Tribal's and Piorun harassing Bismark etc), so the yolo for the Double Strike is just doing it right 👌
I feel like deliberate "kill stealing" is pretty rare. The ultimate goal is to win the game, so if people focus fire on a ship, then over time it will generally average out. I've had top-scoring positions with only 1 kill and mid-scoring positions with 5 kills. A friend who was overly conscious about kill stealing stopped firing at a BB because he thought he hadn't done enough damage to it and didn't want to accidentally kill it. The BB got a final salvo off right as it died and citadel'ed my friend. If he had kept firing on it, it probably wouldn't have been able to get that final hit in.
Agreed. Some of the heated team chat I've heard lately has centered around letting almost-dead ships "get away" as everyone turns their guns elsewhere. Best to secure the kill and victory for the team :)
I have been binge watching a lot of your videos lately and as an American who only discovered the joys of Blackadder about 10 years ago, I love the constant references to that fantastic show!
I gotta admit I do love the animations they put in when you depth charge someone. I remember growing up, a mate would go to france or italy on holiday, EVERYONE would give him shit loads of money so he could bring back boxes and boxes of bangers. Because illegal in the UK obviously. One of my favourite things we did was to throw them in the lake and the blast would send the water about 10ft in the air. And after 30minutes we'd have to leg it from the police because of the angry locals reporting us🤣 🤣🤣. Those were the days! Just seeing those depth charges in the video reminded me of the fun and games we used to get up to.
Hey Jingles been watching your content since I found a video about you years ago, great content keep up the good videos, Long live the Queen, Aussie here
Big shout out to you Jingles for uploading over the years. I've been subscribed to you for 7 years but I've been watching you for 10. You were apart of my childhood and I appreciate you. From Beale AFB, Cheers mate.
That game needs to be edited like a typical Yuro vid, high BPM music and all the meme soundbytes too, that was kinda nuts at times. I loved all the parking on top of subs while deploying depth charges, surprised I don't see more of that, then again it might just be not something people who you feature do that often. Zip around, whip around, full speed ahead, charges, torps, smoke, dakka, this game had it all!
The subs were just far enough away from their team and deep enough that he was able to use his hydro, park and make sure of the kill. Most of the time you end up detected and shot at while paying too much attention to ASW.
Another ship that's more than the sum of its parts. All-around ability. Like the German DDs. Master of none, but quite capable of making life hard for team red.
The Icarus, by virtue of being a DD with hydro does become a much more effective anti-submarine ship than DD's lacking hydro. Once the Icarus can get within 2km of the sub (assuming they are not at maximum depth) the hydro will give the sub's exact position and then the depth charges make for easy kills.
Howdy jingles! You probably wont read this, but Ive been watching you for nearly 5 years now and your uploads are always a highlight of my day. Never, ever change, sir.
The Icarus is a sports car of a destroyer... quick to accelerate and stop, very manoeuvrable too. Stealth torps are very possible, just slow down. Well played, Buda, showing off the best attributes of a good destroyer.
Additionally Jingles: In lower Tier battles there is also less Health to begin with and therefore less damage to deal. My rule of thumb is: 10k of dmg for each Tier is avg. Below is bad above is good. So in a T6 Ship I aim for 60k dmg minimum.
Not that sure I would agree. If you are in a battleship then 60K seems doable but when you are in a 12k DD then 60K is a lot to ask. I prefer to look at each battle as how much you can carry based on your own HP pool. Above it, then you have played well, below it then you played poorly. Your result is proportional to the HP you contributed to your teams HP pool. YMMV
Years of watching Jingles and only getting vicarious pleasure from World of Warships begs the question: How different would the game be if the modelling accurately represented the ships and the fleet capability (when all under one flag)?
HMS Icarus... I 'learned how to destroyer' with HMS Icarus and I have had lots of marvellous battles with her. She is still in my port with many battle-honours to her name and she wears her combat scars with pride. ;-) "Si vis pacem para bellum".
12:35 - A (last) 1000 dmg dealt to a target of 100.000 max hp is not reflected in xp reward as "only" 1% of total hp worth of damage, but the kill ribbon itself equals another 15% hp dmg worth of xp and credits, so finishing a 1k hp Kremlin will still provide you with xp equalling around 16k dmg done to that ship. And that counts. That is why killstealing/killsecuring is also a valid strategy and while playing ranked and wanting to save a star, getting kills helps a lot. Vice versa - player with 4+ kills sitting on 3-4th place in xp values BEHIND a player with 0-2 kills but higher bxp; you can clearly see who did most of the job and who only farmed those killing ribbons ;)
Jingles, Are you aware that later this month they are moving USS TEXAS, BB 35, from it’s long time location at the San Jacinto battlefield toa dry dock in Galveston. This is the first time she’s been moved since 1989. She’s pumped full of foam to seal her and keep her afloat.
If I'm not mistaken, when it comes to interaction with surface ships, there is no longer any differentiation between operating depth and maximum depth. Hydro will spot a submerged sub at its normal range at periscope depth and 2km at any other depth.
Icarus is a fun little ship tho, despite it being only "ok". The ability to stealth launch those torps one by one is just great. You can eat those oblivious low tier BBs for breakfast.
Great game, especially the Yolo double strike - but there were sure some potatoes out there (already checked the enemy team names to make sure I wasn't one of them!)...
just when you think he got a double strike, a kraken etc... you realise he used AP ammo on that BB .... either biggest troll ever or just the biggest lucker ever...

@@gretathunderer5596 I was trying to simplify things for those who don't know the PR formula in depth (it's actually based on actual damage/expected damage). Anyway, you seem to be coming to my same conclusion: PR is a shitty metric, valid only for flexing in front of your friends. Total kills and total damage are even dumber than that. I guess you're right. If people understood you get rewarded for the percentage of a ship's health you damage, not for the number, they would be more willing to focus DDs. Plus there's a bonus for a kill, so it's always good to secure a kill.
