I know it’s a commercial organisation, but I must admit that Strava has transformed positively my cycling these last few years. Not just the relentless measurement and comparison, but the sharing of my ‘sporting life’ with many distant friends. Sometimes new tech is just wonderful.
@@marcalvarez4890 As a non Strava user, did you really open this video that you know you won't find useful, ignore the video, scroll down to the comments, only to show off your fancy high horse?
Fairly certain this is possible through the clubs functionality. The only hook is only club members will be notified about it, though it can made searchable publically.
One of my favorites, is the “Flyby” feature. You can only access this on a computer, but it shows you your route and the riders you passed while riding or those that passed you. It’s really cool when you’re out riding and you know you’re killing it, but there’s really no proof. Well… now there is! I like to view after my most aggressive rides.
the Strava hashtags .. add these on the description of the activity and see the effect on your map #PaceMap or #SpeedMap: Higher speed/lower pace will be a darker blue. #HeartrateMap: Higher heart rate will be a darker red. #Elevationmap: Lower absolute elevation will be black and higher elevation will be yellow. #GradientMap: Descents will be yellow and inclines will be red. #PowerMap: Higher power will be darker purple. Please be aware this map treatment is not available for activities with estimated power. #TimeMap: Longer elapsed time will be a darker red. #TemperatureMap: Higher temperatures will be a darker red.
Crop feature is useful for races as well. Start your ride early, then when the race starts all you have to think about is clipping in mentally bank the 1 or 2 min early start as you pace yourself. At the end of the race you can crop accordingly for accuracy.
Do I have the Strava subscription? No. Have I ever chased QOMs? No. Am I out with a broken elbow from a crash? Yes! Am I still watching this all the way through? YES! 🤩😁👍🏻
I love the fact that Si made a point of almost getting 5 guys on a his TT to then demonstrating he clearly invests more money on his bikes than his phone... as he should!
Strava has recently added a weather summary for activities. If you click on the date of a recent activity in the leader board you can see how much of that KOM was due to the riders talent and how much tail wind they had helping them.
Star - check; Recap - check; Bluetooth - really happy to have it back (check); Relative effort - seen it but hadn't looked in detail, thx for the tip; Strava Metro commute option - check; Crop - news to me; it will save some digging for strava correction tools; nice! Perceived exertion - nice also, the monthly fitness that is obtained from there sounds very useful
Funny! I could never get Strava to tell my Wahoo that I was approaching ANY segments, including segments I "stared" and even before all these features became "premium"!
Love flybys too. Hypnotic when lots of people were all recording at the same time. Can’t decide if being separate from the main app is a pest or makes it more like a secret discovery (kind of). Anyway chuffed when I stumbled on it. 😊
Flyby's were my favorite feature until they set it off as a default. I feel like most people don't know about it so they don't think to turn it on. Would be cool if you could set it by activity easily.
The compare feature showed me that in relation to similar speed guys I'd be a good margin ahead at the half way and crumble at the end of a segment. I made some changes to my style and improved my times on a few of my favorite segments.
That commute button use was a totally new feature, thanks. Makes me wonder why they don't offer an option to default to this tag on for all rides for those who are willing to opt-in and share their ride routes. On a side note, which one of you GCN fans wants to start a go-fund-me page to get a new screen protector for Si before he cuts his fingers?
I would like a function that allows cropping of sections where I've gone the wrong way in a race. I'd like to remove the bit where I've had to double back to return to the route
There were a couple on there that I didn't know about. Map drawing (Strava art here I come!) and the awesome feature with the commute button. My favourite at the moment though, not on the list are the hashtag custom activity lines.
I'm British, It isn't in the least a strange pronunciation here - Kyu-Doss - I think it's absolutely correct as far as I know - although you'd need to ask a Greek to know precisely what's the right way.
I'm planning on paying for strava, but have 2 question : 1. can you check elevation or gradient on specific road? 2. can you pick a route beforehand and ride on it and stop automatically when the route is completed? Thank you
Strava is okay for tour planning - but far from perfect. Komoot is 10 times better. Example: When I used Strava to calculate routes for my road bike it send me over gravel paths for 4km straight, even tho there was a road nearby (I found out later). Also Strava send me over the most horrible cobblestones I have ever witnessed. Komoot on the other hand knows about EVERY street and even sends me around longer cobble stone sections automaticly. Once When I was routplaning I was courious why it planed the route in such a funny way at one point. I scrolled in and it told me "to avoid cobble section". I was a very welcome surprise.
This was a great video, I use Strava everyday and I still learned a couple things! The finger drawing that turns into an actual route seems like magic! I do have a couple comments though. Can we buy Simon a phone case and new phone? Am I the only one who cringes at the sight of a spider cracked phone screen? And “Kudos”, I spent too long focusing on the video tying to figure out what a “quedos” was until I figured out you meant “Koodose”! Other than that, thanks!
I’m surprised you didn’t mention the ”Flyby” feature, it always surprises me how many people don’t know about it, and it’s great - it’s like a video playback in real time of your ride, and who you saw on it! Watch out for the Strava route planner thing, always check what it’s planned for you - it has a nasty habit of sending you across bogs and moorland and private land, just when you least expect it! It uses the “heatmaps” feature to determine what’s suitable (rather than the road network) - and it isn’t always!
That was really excellent. Never knew about the route editing when you get in the car and forgot to save. Id have deleted the entry as it was obvious i couldnt cycle at 60kh/hr in the past.
I have to say I prefer Ride with GPS. But I am currently using Bryton computer and for some reason RWGPS won't read Bryton data correctly, so I upload my activities to Strava for now.
Does the Strava Android app allow *all* HRMs now? I found it specifically won’t take a reading from a Garmin device in which is a pain as I have Fenix HRM. It might well be so Garmin can justify the existence of connect of course. I can use the watch to record the whole activity and up load through Garmin connect but the GPS data is much better through the phone. I have found no way to really merge the two activities into one which is great for local legends but cocks up other metrics. I’ve been *forced* to acquire an Edge Head unit head unit for the bike but that’s no good for walks or running... but I guess that’s not GCN’s problem! 😂
Thanks. Love the GCN videos. Knew about most features mentioned, although the reason for flagging a ride as commute was new. Not sure if user comments have already included (a) apps you can link to eg add weather to ride description, (b) ride colour Easter eggs eg black heart in title will change route taken from orange to black.
