SVG: We got this. Starter motor: Nah mate… Definitely shades of 1995 Seton (but at least history is now on SVG’s side with two victories since). 2014’s Great Race had close to a dozen real contenders - Scotty Mac was looking good early, Reynolds in the Bottle-O car before it shat itself, Whincup in full-send mode all day, Lowndes with a real shot before punting Frosty and copping a drive-thru. So many storylines. While I was stoked for Chaz (who at that stage was a fun-to-watch emerging talent), I was more stoked for The Dude Paul Morris. This bloke was a undeniable influence on Australian motorsport - did have a few works gigs (including FPR at the end), but ran his own team through most of the 2000s, and was mentor to many youngsters coming up the ranks. The Dude must have thought he mongreled up their chances when he was victim to the deterioration of the surface at Turn 2, pitching the car into the outside tyre wall, but it was a weird old day at The Mountain, and he ended up with a fairytale result to round out his Supercars racing career.
love these commentators. the sport simply wouldnt be the same without em. miss the 2000s era v8s, this would of been one of the last races i watched. rip holdenvsford.
Definitely I always had the V8 Supercars underneath my nose and unnoticed for so many years glad I stuck around for some pretty intense racing much big ups & props from all the way from cold rainy Jersey y'all keeping it real
Chaz drove very well, but this was a Bradbury result, based on it being a duo race. Thanks to Paul Morris not being up to he task (by supercar driver standards - i respect his skill in general), they should have been way back in the results.
On the flip side if he didn’t crash the car then mostert would’ve been in the same fuel race as Whincup in the same low save fuel boat so everything happens for a reason
Agree. It’s easy to mock in retrospect, but despite the result, it was possibly one of Bathurst’s greatest drives - from the rear of grid, Whincup was in full send mode all day, and it was fun to watch, left everything on the table.
worrying if youll make it to the next fuel station is stressful enough on civilian roads cant imagine the pressure if youll make it for a championship, great driving
If what you mean, is it the crown jewel of the nations racing.? Then yes Bathurst is Ozie's Daytona. Its one thing to win the championship but to win Bathurst is to be king of the mountain, a race like none other. If your new to watching the OZ V8s there are so many Bathurst races to watch that will leave you on the edge of your seat. Also check out the old Adelaide 500 races AKA Clipsal 500. excellent motorsport to watch
Awesome stuff. Probable winner goes from SVG to Frosty to Jdub, then Mozzy takes it in the end. Paul Morris said himself that Mozzy carried him through the race., extra effort. I wonder how car 6 did their seat. Seat for PM and seat inserts for CM??
Does anyone know if he heard the initial shouts of conserve fuel? Looking at his lap times doesn't seem like he did until he finally said copy with two laps to go. I think this was definitely Whincup's race if he did conserve the fuel. Or should I say SVG's race if it wasn't for the starter motor
@@jackhuiskessalesexecutive92 Skaife knew Lowndes very well and for many years. We all know that he didn't mean to hit him and it was spot on commentary. Frosty came out of the corner slow while trying to do some weird overtaking manoeuvre. It probably cost Lowndes a podium so I don't see why he would want to do this. "He didn't want to hit him but he did!" Great race in the end that had everything.
Lowndes should have actually won this race , he was the only one in the prime position in that leading group to fight at full speed the whole way to the end, but frostys slow exit from turn one put an end to that
Can never get tired of this race 🙌
You literally made an entire video about it 😂
And that video describes everything about this race perfectly.
Watching this after the Chicago NASCAR race really puts things into perspective nowadays.
Try being on the pit lane side.
Your Video on it made me watch it and peaked my interest in Supercars. As someone from the other side of the world, Thanks :)
2014 was my first visit to The Mountain. It was the most incredible experience to witness THAT race. It cemented my love of Supercars forever!
My heart still breaks for Gizzy in that pit stop. Ten damn laps to go my God....
Easily one of the greatest Motorsport races of all time. So much stories, so much drama, and an storybook ending to cap it off.
@RACINGUS95, you stole my thunder. 100% agree with you.
One of?... no... this IS the greatest race as a whole in history of motor racing.
That wasn't a story book ending that was a dirty ending Chaz punting Jamie out of the way that is dirty and the Stewards were a sleep on it

Epic finish that's for sure!
29:29 Yep, it is one of the greatest moments for Mostert's career, and an epic one.
Well done.
Ahhh yes Bathurst 2014 a race that kept giving
Hard to think this was nearly 10 years ago 🤯
My heart right still hits the roof. It was stressful watching now as it was beck the bunker.

my left ear loved this video

Jamie Whincup is out of this world fast.
I miss watching the mighty Falc.
Epic stuff Chad :)
Best coverage ever.
"Hello Darkness" haha
I was not a fan of Whincup at all until this race, he won me over with his pure aggression and speed, had to respect it.

thats the race they instructed Craig L to punt Frosty off to make sure he didn't win again...
Watching this makes me think how cool it would be for Nissan to re enter with the r35
I'm surprised they didn't in the first place. The return of "Godzilla" to Bathurst would be something special
Great race. Paul, you're in trouble from the kevettes and I thought shanes dad was his twin. What are they feeding them now across the ditch?
There was heaps of crashes in that great race.

If the fuel data was accurate, one lap of fuel left with one and a half laps to go. I think
Whincup did a great job to roll over for 5th place.
I swear the entire crowd applauded Shane as he stepped out of that car.
