has to be one of the best racing championships in the world - we have a lot of historic racing in the UK - but the quality of these cars, the way the championship is designed and run - as well as the safety standards. Brilliant.
Group C Improved Production Touring Cars in this have to be as they were raced back in the day & all have to have a genuine race history and can not be reproduced cars, the big bangers still had the door trims and dash etc in tact, safety was a not high on the agenda back in the 80's occupational health & safety was a figment of imaginations....
The wonderful thing about Bathurst is the variety in passing opportunities...you're vulnerable pretty much anywhere on the track if you get it wrong. Compare that to Monaco where if you drive fat, no one can get past, ever. It's a great circuit.
People have already said in the comments ..( but honestly ... this championship is awesome! ) I have only recently come across it.. classic racing is always fun to see old cars ... but most people protect an sand bag their prize possessions..(understandably) but these Australians properly unleash these weapons .. I’m hooked ... got to love the Australians ... !! Fair dink um?
Awesome, especially the pacer. I'm a little perplexed though as this is a VF Valiant Pacer and the VF never had a Hemi engine they had the slant 6 engine of 225ci. The VG Pacer got the first Hemi engine of 245ci and this is not a VG pacer. The VG had the square headlights and different taillights. Either way it was sensational racing. I love the old classics- so much character!
Ihaveabigbrownbear yer and let’s not forget the pacer is only a 265 6 cylinder up against 302 v8 and 308 v8 351 ci v8 Tilley wanted to put a mopar v8 in the pacer but due to popular demand he stuck with the 6.
When they are talking about the average speed of over 100 miles per hour, lets not forget that they have massive brakes totally different performance engines and a lot better fuel delivery systems and also chassis dynos as well, basically a full race roll cage which helps with the body roll and especially with supercar racing type suspensions made for the older cars, if you compared these cars to the 1970's versions you have at least over 20 seconds faster then the 1970's versions, thats how good the cars are and reliability issues are a lot better like brakes, back then they would have to come in to change brakes pads after say about 6 laps, which is why they only do 6 laps per race, because thats how long the brakes lasted back then ? Like to see the 1970's versions race not these monsters race, which is really about only 10 seconds off the current v8 supercars ?

They abandoned the project and sent the prototypes to Chrysler Australia to continue development and the hemi 6 (245ci) was born and put in the VG valiant in 1970 (I think). What an awesome engine!

Being a foreigner, please explain why there are non of the great british tourers involved, jags, jensons, scimitars and the like? Would the rules preclude hot minis?
@@hughgordon6435 Weren't enough here to justify racing them. Late 60s Jags competed, but from early 70's, I'm pretty sure there had to be a minimum of 500 cars in country to count as a production car for eligibility purposes. Id like to have seen a Jensen compete.
its tough that one - the first yellow looks to be on the apex of the turn - the pass was complete before that yellow but only by inches (which is another issue). But i dont know if another marshals point is in front of that corner because the camera zooms in.
15:31 no yellow out after the hump. 16:12 he was passed before the waving yellow at the Chase entrance. I'd say the passing manoeuvre was complete before they came under local yellow. Very close and I'm sure the stewards would have had a good check of it..

How did the guy that finished 1st get to keep his win when he clearly overtook 2nd place at the yellow flag section!? Can't overtake under yellow flags and they were definitely waving right as he made the pass!!

Bathurst is the finest racetrack I've ever seen. No matter what machines there we know those boys have some fun.

That model valiant didn't have hemi's as far as I know .I had that model pacer back in day and it was a slant six. Pls Correct me if I'm wrong .
