  • This is a patch from scratch tutorial featuring my sampler based eurorack modular system. We start off with the TipTop One which is our primary sound source. We then go through a VCF-74 analog filter and a uVCA. The sound is modulated by both the Korg SQ-1 sequencer and Mutable Instruments Peaks in envelope generator mode. Finally the sound is processed by OTO Machines BAM which is a reverb unit and we also add some drums via the Korg Volca Beats which is synchronized to the SQ-1.

    Thank you for such an awesome & unique configuration/use-case for the VCF-74. An excellent utilization of the filter cutoff CV input with that SQ-1's second seq ch. Nice!

    Excellent video. Really like the format - camera position and lighting are perfect and your explanation is precise and easy to understand. A great introduction for eurorack beginners like myself. Thanks!

    endless fun isnt it, nice organic almost indonesian drum sounds there from a modular, pretty wacky cool stuff. That korg sequencer is a little gem Ive overlooked far to long, might have to grab one soon. keep the vids coming.

      Thanks fiddlestickz muzik! Yeah the SQ-1 is a nice inexpensive companion to the modular. I wish korg made a eurorack module version of it for convenience.

      yeah the fact it's not and is just another black box on the desk I think is what stopped me buying it the first time, seems such an illogical decision to us modular users who want to plug modules into cases..but it would be a no brainer if it were to come out as a module.

    Is there a eurorack step sequencer that does the things your Korg SQ-1 does? I also mean have two rows of buttons. Most are overly complicated or use shift stuff and have less buttons.

    hi I recently purchased a Tiptop Audio One (display module from Sweetwater.)... I really like it but I don't understand why when you push the PLAY button to trigger the module it doesn't trigger immediately.. instead it triggers after you release the button.? ..it that how yours works..?

    I have a question: why does the sequenced pitch of the sample differ sometimes, despite being driven by the same sequence by the Korg SQ-1? The triggering also sounds varied to my ears.

      Good ear. I noticed that too. I'm not 100% sure. I think when I made this video my understanding of how the TipTop One CV input works was wrong. I assumed it tracked 1 volt/octave but I later found out that it doesn't exactly, instead it internally quantizes the sound to the western 12-tone scale. But in this video I'm feeding it a 5V range 1volt/octave scale-quantized signal from the SQ-1 into the One's own re-quantized non-volt/octave input. So my theory is that there was some slight random quantization errors as a result. So probably for better results I should have just fed a plain linear voltage into it and let it quantize itself. That's just my guess, I'm not sure if that's exactly what was going on.

      Let us know if/when you try it with linear voltage. As it is, it sounds wrong (which doesn't always mean the result is wrong :) )

    Are you still using your SQ-1 with all the modules you have now?

      Not anymore since I got the Z-8000

    What happens when you run out of ribbon connectors. Looks like the intelijel only has 20. Seems like its not enough especially if you populate with smaller size modules. Also would love to see you keep a running total of the general cost of the setup, as you put out these series of videos. This way we have a general idea of how much this fun hoppy costs or can cost.

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I believe there's no way to expand on the ribbon connectors so if you run out you run out unfortunately. I'm trying to keep a balance of small / large modules. As for the cost thing that's an interesting idea. To be honest I don't think I want to be reminded of how much money I spent on modules for fear of going insane lol...

      To be honest, you should figure out how to get some companies to pay you to demonstrate/teach how to use their products. Let's face it, you are clearly one of the best at doing this. No ?s about it ! You definitely generate sales for them. I personally bought an Oto Machines BAM, and Organelle, a Pocket Piano, Bolsa Bass, and now a ETC (cause i love their products so much), directly as a result of watching your videos.

      Thanks man that comment means a lot to me. I think you may be onto something here haha... to be honest I feel like my channel is too small still for that. But I'll think about that some more.
