Amazing watching Stretch knocking out unbeaten Georgie Collins in NABC Class C Finals at Grovner House Hotel Park Lane 1985. Georgie beat me in Semi Finals
No shame in that pal, Collins was meant to be the next great prospect in British boxing. I'm certain that if Stretch had been trained by a top American trainer, e.g. Eddie Futch I'm fairly certain that he'd have beaten Eubank. Along with Chris Pyatt versus Steve Collins.
My Dad was the man on the left in front who walked Gary Stretch down to the ring. I remember watching it on tv all those years ago, seems strange to watch it again now.
This was from a time when Great Britain had so many world class champions from different weights from lightweight to heavyweight to many to name I liked watching the dark destroyer Nigel Benn in his prime knock out his opponents in the first round
I know this might sound crazy, but i think Chris was technically much better and strategic at the end of his career, in his 30s!! He seemed more compact and composed, like he knew what he was doing more, but the inevitable sadly happens over 30, you lose your stamina and punch resistance, despite that superior knowledge and experience you have. It's like life is playing a sick joke! .
When I was working on the building in the 80s,I Almost got into a fight with a bloke who sparred with George Collins who fought Gary Stretch.I wish it had happened. Even if I'd lost,I would've had that attachment.

I was at this remember it well Gary stretch was on every newspaper tv show he was the new star of boxing for a while. I don't remember anything about what happened to his career afer this fight.

Also he was in Oliver Stone's film Alexander (2004) as Cleitus the Black, Macedonian cavalry general who saved Alexander The Great's life in battles. His character in that movie is my favorite btw.
Eubank was very tough around the edges here , just swinging in and lunging from the outside with shots a decent opponent could go and make a cup of tea come back and still dodge. Eubank is a true warrior and has a chin of steel though.
