This is just priceless. I don't see how Payton and Montana didn't lose it in this skit. Carvey was definitely on this night. My goodness! RIP to the late, great Walter Payton. Gone way too soon. He was a great sport in this.

I still remember watching Walter Payton at the auto show. My family would walk around and would just watch the Walter Payton Q & A
I was lucky enough to have been in the audience on this night. My girlfriend's father worked at NBC and surprised us with last minute tickets. As a big sports fan, I was thrilled to find out that Walter Payton and Joe Montana were hosting. A night I will never forget.

This has to be one of my favorite SNL sketches. The sexual innuendo was flawless plus Joe and Walter are getting suck a kick out of playing along 😊. RIP Walter. Gone far too soon.

The Satan Bowl... That was my favorite Church Lady show. The greatest QB and greatest Running Back of all times on the show.
My mom was in a car accident with Walter Payton. His car was hit and those cars hit the car my mother was in. No one was hurt, but my mom was hilarious. Oh my god, it’s Walter Payton! He was super chill about the whole thing. The only thing she regrets is she did not ask for his autograph, she thought it would be tacky.
Awww, your mom's a lucky lady. He was our hero growing up. I'm so glad she wasn't hurt.

Dana is my very favorite and the Old Rodney is too!!! I still think I like Dana better. I actually had a Church Lady like that at St. THECLA SCHOOL IN CHICAGO years ago. And there was a music old lady. Named Pearl

@@pamygalla8404 Dana said he got the idea from some women at the Lutheran church his family attended. They didn't go every Sunday so the old ladies would say, "there's the Carveys. Isn't it wonderful that they took the time to come and worship our Lord.".

Pamy Galla Frankly, once Carvey left it went steadily downhill, until a series of unfortunate circumstances and some awesome actors made it funny again a few years ago. Not that there weren’t occasional good skits, apparently, but I only know because they’re on TH-cam, as I stopped watching the show. Which reminds me, it’s been a while since I watched “Boy Dance Party.” Time to revisit.
Oh, I also really miss “The Copy Guy.”

These 2 were the definitive greats and class acts of football during the 1980s! I am from Chicago so huge bears fan but the 49ers were always my second team! They were so funny in this skit!

This was absolutely great, I wish we could just go back in time is the country and be the same way, without being censored or criticized by someone. We just had more fun then and didn’t care less. People need to get over themselves today no matter which side of the fence you sit on
No, you do not want to do that. If you were to go back, you'll be seeing things from an adult perspective, and very often we see things quite different as an older person than we did when we were younger.

I recently heard an interview with Dana Carvey where he said he was nervous about performing in sketches at first and the only way you could tell was when he raised his hands, you could see his palms sweating. I just noticed that at 5:12. Wouldn't have guessed otherwise!

I was in line to get an autograph from Walter Payton back when I lived in the Chicago suburbs. People were shouting questions to him as they waited and I shouted "Is it true that you have Bible studies with other Bears players?" He looked in my direction and simply nodded. I give him credit for having the humility to participate in this skit where Christians were being mocked.

I've loved Joe Montana since he played at Notre Dame all through his career. Also Walter Peyton is awesome also!! Got both their rookie cards and wouldn't trade them for anything. Love the church lady!!

Wally!!! Two living legends at the time, the type of legends you liked just because they were so damn great. How great is it to see Montana and Payton laughing and you know Carvey remembers this sketch and talks about it a lot.
I was a Walter Payton fan all my life, my cousin was a Honey Bear Cheerleader for the Bears during that time and my uncle was a Chicago Police Lt. who did security for the Bears and I met the players during the 80's and Walter was the nicest man, when I needed shoulder surgery he sent me to his surgeon who worked on him and his brother in Mississippi when they were in college. It was very sad him passing from cancer, he was a great person.
What makes Walter Payton's line, "Well I try to penetrate any opening I can find" so funny is that he says it with a completely straight face!

A part of comedy is being the "straight man" for the goofy comedian. Jan's awesomeness helped make Church Lady even funnier. Plus her outfit was spectacular!

I was a Saints fan, so I yelled for the head of Joe Montana twice a year, and instead he would dust off after the beating he sometimes got from my heroes, wave his wand, and magically break our hearts nearly every time. I feel bad now... he's a really nice guy.
