Happy Anniversary Fender Custom Shop! All my life I've dreamed of having and designing my own Fender Custom Shop guitar. I've sold most of my life's guitars to feed us and keep us from going homeless in hard and very difficult times. My very favorite Fender I had to sell last year for that very reason. It was a customized Jag-stang. I had modded it out beyond. It was close to my perfect guitar but had to go. I haven't been able to write any new music since. I'm still hopeful that someday my dreams will come true and I can have a Custom Shop Fender and that it will be perfection! I've always wanted a Jaguar or Jazzmaster or Jag-stang type guitar body with a 24.75" scale and a 12" radius neck. Metallic flake finish. It was a LOT of money at the time but I knew it was special. I've had LOADS of guitars since then. Still the best guitar I've played. #FenderProSweepstakes
I'd definitly have to go with a strat. Good ol classic strat. Just wonderfull: Clapton, Hendrix, Blackmore, Gilmour and many more. Just look at how much joy, innovation and inspiration that one guitar style has brought. Just amazing. Please keep up the wonderful thing you guys are doing over there

In the beginning and most likely still to this day, you 8 plus have no comprehension, idea of how many people you have made dream. We sit quit in our rooms or play to a loud audience with our instruments but, all of us guitar players take a second and salute you for helping us keep YOUR dreams alive, THANK YOU.

When I was younger I just wanted to have a shred guitar. Right now I think I'm old enough to understand, admire and feel love for such a beautiful piece of art from Fender.
Many shots of my friend John English...... Sure Miss him.... I was friends with John & his dad Jay from the 70's.... through the Whittier music days... 80's custom shop builds.... I still have & play some guitars he built in my lineup.

The Strat was the last guitar I wanted. Boring, ubiquitous, common. Give me an SG, Tele, Les Paul, Gretsch whatever. Then I try out a used Squire Classic Vibe Strat and I had to admit why it has the history it has. Sold the Tele and the SG (kept the LP) and got two Fender Stratocasters. I wanted to be hip and a little different but I gotta go with my ears. Congrats Fender Custom Shop. Maybe one day one of them will be mine.
Fender should get a hold of Smith logging in Winston OR. I used to set chokers for them. In the fire season we would pull wind feld old growth and sell it to a small luthier. I always wished I could have played one. But it was always a great feeling knowing how that log was going to change someone's world.

Watching a video of Roy Orbison playing a telecaster has me drifting off to that drummer's beat. I step to the mic. My hands glide down to start the riff. Oh Pretty Woman, so smooth in my hand. Just as the words start to come out of my mouth, reality calls and I am called to by the drool on my shirt and my wife wondering why I am not cleaning gutters. I have owned two Fender Custom Shop guitars, and appreciate the artistry of the builders, but there is one implication in this video that is bordering on a flat-out lie. The Fender Custom Shop was started in 1987. In 1985, I had a guitar built to my specifications by Charvel in San Dimas, California. I had the good fortune to visit the San Dimas factory in 1985, and there were literally hundreds of one-of-a-kind custom creations. Fender's Custom Shop did NOT spark an industry-wide explosion of custom shops. Charvel/Jackson, B.C. Rich, Hamer and Dean were all building custom guitars well before Fender opened their Custom Shop. To imply that Fender influenced the industry at that point is discounting the genius of guys like Wayne Charvel, Dean Zelinsky, Paul Reed Smith, Jol Dantzig, Bernie Rico, etc. There was one important point made in this video that IS truth. CBS was a dark time for Fender, and possibly why the competition gained traction, whether through custom American guitars like the aforementioned shops, or the beginnings of the (arguably superior) import guitars from Japanese companies like ESP and Ibanez. By 1987, Fender was already starting to play catch up to all of those companies, moving production of some guitars overseas, and starting their own custom shop. The only company Fender might have influenced was Gibson, similarly corporately owned (by Norlin) and whose Custom Shop started roughly around the same time period. Fender - you are a storied brand and still produce some great guitars, but please don't rewrite history just because you bought out Charvel, Jackson, Guild, Gretsch and Hamer.
In all fairness, I will say that I think that with the exception of ESP and maybe Paul Reed Smith, Fender's Custom Shop is unparalleled in terms of the artistry (crazy shit) that they produce. To that end, nobody has been influenced by Fender because I don't think any other company has the capital resources to build such outrageous guitars like a Strat made out of cardboard.
I have a Kubicki EX Factor Bass that was built in the Fender Custom Shop. What's funny, is that Kubicki Bass aficionados will suggest it's inferior to a non FCS example, but the build quality is all but indistinguishable aside from the FCS logo, and I love it just the same.
I would choose the Jazzmaster/Jaguar shape. I find it the most comfortable and there is a lot of room for custom work on the body. Totally dig the JM in the video. Beautiful. #FenderProSweepstakes
