The flash-backs also perfectly highlight how brilliant Alec Guinness' acting is...he gave Obi-Want all the proper sadness and regret without even knowing the full story yet.

Alec Guiness's performance here really was good. The first time you see this scene, barring any prequels, when Luke asks what happened to his father and Obi-Wan hesitates, it might seem like Obi-Wan is taking a second to articulate a painful recollection, but his reaction is recontextualized with the reveal of his plans in Return of the Jedi, and the clips from the prequels edited with this scene go so well. It's impressive what you can do with a great actor and a cohesive vision.
It's even more amazing really because those little moments Guinness just manifested in having no contextual info. Reportedly he wasn't informed initially he'd have a death scene, and he balked a bit at coming back for Empire because he didn't understand how that would work. The scripts changed so much there wasn't yet a three story arc to share with anyone.
Just a great actor acting here, and the breathing room he provided by inhabiting the idea of memories left room to expand on later.
Incredible to think that at the time, it was just backstory, nothing was fleshed out, yet the actor made it so impactful
If I’m remembering right, Alec fought in either WW2 and lost friends. So he channelled his feelings into the scene to give that stare as he remembers.

If anyone is new watching Emme, her star wars reactions (in order) are so much fun to watch. It's super fun watching someone not knowing the spoilers run through the emotions, plus her love for R2 proves her fan level. Ps don't mind her forgetting faces and the millennium falcon

Sir Alec Guinness served in the British Navy during the Second World War, primarily in the English channel, often involved in trying to rescue shot down pilots, English, American, and German. He saw a lot of casualties, both killed and horribly wounded. Though Guinness only knew the scantiest bit about the Star Wars backstory, he could portray PTSD, because he had it.
+1 He also commanded a landing craft at the invasions of Sicily (where his was the first craft to reach the beach) and Anzio, and ran secret missions ferrying agents and supplying weapons to Yugoslav partisans. Altogether, more than enough trauma-inducing experience to accurately portray a troubled former soldier.
You absolutely MUST watch HFP's videos. Namely "the chosen one" and "failure is the best teacher".

As a person who endures CPTSD, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was super relatable. A lot of fans expressed disappointment that the version of Obi-Wan in that series seemed very different from the version of Obi-Wan from the Prequels and from The Clone Wars animated series. Yes. He has PTSD and is struggling to work through a lot of sh!t.
I always felt that so many people seemed to miss the whole PTSD aspect of the series. Once you understand what he’s working through, the series becomes so much more impactful. Plus, it could help explain the common complaint I hear from people “why didn’t he just kill Vader when he had the chance”… did you not SEE Obi-Wan break down when he saw Anikan!?
I don´t think that was the biggest disappointment that most fans had. I think it was mostly the show not really focusing on the character actually, as much as it should, and not developing it better into that characterization (suffering from PTSD does make sense for him at that point indeed, but it deserved so much to be explored better). There was too much filler, when it would have been amazing to get the resources they used for that filler into creating a bit more of a character study. Specially given it´s a character so beloved.
May I remind you that the writers for the Obi-Wan show didn't know that Obi-Wan knew that Anakin was Darth Vader? That means they never watched Return of the Jedi nor the prequels.
Why hire people who never bothered to watch all six of the main SW films?

6:11 The Jedi masters never trusted Anakin from the beginning this is one of the reasons why he fall to the dark side only Obi-Wan trusted Anakin before his fall

Same with Qui-Gon. He WAS brought into the Jedi Order too late to keep him from attachment, but with the right teachers, and family-figures around, you could imagine events ending much different.

"And he was a good friend." Listening to it now, I can almost hear him saying "Annie" was a good friend.

I can understand his pts, he watched his master die right in front of him, he watched dutchess sateen (which he almost left the Jedi order to be with) die right in front of him, he watched his brother succumb to the dark side and cut his arm and both his legs off, put yourself in his shoes, what would you have done.

There's another really good edit where at the end of Return Of The Jedi, when Palpatine is torturing Luke it shows Vader flashing back to Padme and how much he loved her, and how excited he was at being a father. How he fell to the dark side to do anything to protect his family, before he picks up Palpatine and throws him down the shaft.
