      John, could you mount this to a fence in some way and set various stops so when you get ready to drill the dowel holes for your second board they would line up perfectly with no measuring or marking???

      Cool new toy, as far as the handle on top goes, I would think a pistol type grip might be more comfortable in the long run, but that also depends on how often you use it, well done

    For people who are wondering the difference between domino and a dowel joint. There is none, when using 2 dowels. But even one small domino prevents wood from turning which one dowel doesnt prevent. Also dowels have to be presicely matched on each piece. Domino "biscuit" has a very small 1/64 play in it sideways which can be great when lining up pieces.
    But to mister Heisz I have to say: thats the best handheld diy joint-maschine i've seen, so great job! Looks also quite precise which cant be said to everyones equal attempts to do something like this.

    • @Oops-IMeantToDoThat
      @Oops-IMeantToDoThat 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I saw a stress test comparing dominos and dowels not too long ago. For whatever reason (maybe thickness of domino and/or how shallow they go “in”), the dominos failed only an only slightly higher load than pocket screws. Dowels, however, took a load for 4+ over pocket screws, and Al par 4 higher than dominos. So, if you’re using dominos for anything other than alignment, a dowel is apparently a much better choice.

    • @aapoapina7390
      @aapoapina7390 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Oops-IMeantToDoThat you are correct about the shallowness. But almost every test shows, the domino itself doesnt break but the wood around it. You have to leave enough material around the domino to be strong. And some people use really soft woods in their tests which doesnt correlate to real world if you use for example oak or walnut. At least I havent build any spruce furniture 😆

      @@Oops-IMeantToDoThat also I recommend video from "woodcraftbysuman" youtube channel, about 6 months ago. He did good tests also where dominos werent any worse than dowels

    I find yours one of the most inventive woodworking channels on TH-cam, especially when using raw materials from the scrap bin. I don't often have the confidence (or skills) to have a go but it doesn't prevent me from enjoying what you do.

  • @bloodgain
    @bloodgain 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

    This is the first "Domino replacement" I've seen on TH-cam that actually looks worth the trouble of making. I'd probably add marks or some other way to line it up to use something like the Beadlock floating tenons, too. The router bit for making the Beadlock tenon stock isn't crazy expensive.

    • @ryandury

      I think some of those are expressing doubt about the overall usefulness of such a project. Let’s face it, an entry-level biscuit joiner is $60, one from DeWalt is less than $140. If this is about using a tool to build things, you are wasting your time / money to build something as complex as this. If you are into making tools, that’s cool. For this who want to do dowel joinery, a simple doweling jig, either store-bought or homemade will get you most of what this power version does. I’m not dissing the clever built, just questioning the ‘why’.

    • @RandyRasmussen
      @RandyRasmussen 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@langrock74 I do understand your point but my perspective is that inventors invent even just for fun not always for saving money/time. Also, if you already have an old router or an old cutout tool you no longer use it could be repurposed for this use.
