  • The Hearst Family 40 is finished and after it's debut at SEMA 2023, we deliver it personally to the Hearst family ranch near Hearst Castle in San Simeon California! This FJ40 Stage 3 Restoration (we call it a resto-mod) has many of the features we offer on our builds. It's got an LS3 engine swap using a 6L80e 6 speed automatic. The 4" extended wheelbase makes room for the longer transmission and a new Toyota split transfer case. 4 wheel disc brakes handle the stopping on the factory FJ40 axles equipped with ARB locking differentials. A PRLC shackle reversal and a 2.5" OME lift provide a combined 3" of lift, which is dampened with Bilstein shocks. The interior boasts a PRLC family roll cage and forward facing seating for 4 people. Other features include Vintage Air AC, and a premium retro style audio system with an amp and subwoofer.
Now...to answer the inevitable question "Why the LS?" which I'm sure we will get.
We are Toyota purists at the core. We do everything possible to maintain as much Toyota DNA as we can in our builds. There are times, unfortunatly, where an a engine conversion that strays from Toyota's roots makes the most sense. In this case, It more than makes sense, it's virtually the only option. The California Air Resources Board has very strict emissions standards set for CA vehicles newer than 1974. These standards make keeping an original 2F (in this case) equipped Land Cruiser compliant and on the road very difficult. With no support for the necessary parts from Toyota, and used parts drying up, it can be an overwhelming or impossible task. The GM ERod program conforms with these regulations and more or less gives vehicles with this engine installed "an easy in" past some of the red tape.
To put it bluntly, Cut us some slack, we would have used a Toyota engine if it was practical to do so. This FJ40 is on the road and turning heads, and if it wasn't for this engine swap, it might have been scrapped.

Super Nice FJ40 build. I enjoy all your videos. It still will not let me turn on notifications about new videos because it says channel is set for kids only

I don’t know. I think that lots of people like to regulate things for no real reason… just for the sake of being able to regulate them.
