I’ve watched this like 30 times for school I have to study this in 2 days and know it all this is a brand new subject I’ve never done music I’m cooked😢
There are tons of different String, Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, and Keyboard instruments out there, but most symphony orchestras and philharmonic orchestras across the globe consist of the following instruments: String Section: Violins, Violas, Cellos, Double Basses, and Harps. Woodwind Section: Piccolos, Flutes, Oboes, English Horns, Clarinets, Bass Clarinets, Bassoons, and Contrabassoons. Brass Section: Trumpets, French Horns, Trombones, Bass Trombones, Euphoniums, and Tubas. Percussion Section: Snare Drums, Bass Drums, Cymbals, Tambourines, Triangles, Drum Kits, Whips, Castanets, Gongs, Timpanis, Tubular Bells, Xylophones, Glockenspiels, Vibraphones, and Marimbas. Keyboard Section: Pianos, Celestes, Harpsichords and Organs.
It's a shame that the double-bass was covered almost entirely by the piano. This often happens when a double-bass gets to play a solo piece. The pianist tends to accompany the double-bass like the might accompany a trombone and play far too loudly. The double-bass may be big, but it isn't a loud instrument.
OMG I wonder if its possible to play every instrument in there at professional level? If there's anyone who has, please tell me the secret on how you organized yourself.
I think that would be possible but it'd be more of a life goal. And yet you'd play a given instrument less better than a guy that dedicated his whole life to that one signle instrument.
@@Pulp_nd_Fuss I realized that there's somewhat a possibility due to some instruments relating to others. Like the violin helps learn viola cello and bass just by knowing the notes. The only thing you need is get used to the positioning. But, idk how I'm going to learn so much. Sometimes I guess I get too excited.
@@raquelvasquez5152 surely its over-whelming, I think the trick is to get to the depths of specific styles and technique of a single instrument rather than a general knowing of many
Thanks. There are no saxophones in a traditional Western symphony orchestra. They've appeared infrequently since the 1960s, but still by no means the norm.
layout showed instrument not played in the vid... i am dissapoint. also, can appreciate how the 2nd song in the vid was a version not sped up to high hades... i hate it when its too fast. cant appreciate it.
Apologies for the typo: should be double basses. I'm not the author of the orchestral layout map, so not guilty on this occasion!
I would love one of these maps for my students to color as we follow along, is there a way to get a copy?
@@sarahkelley8461 To be honest, a good old Google image search for ‘blank orchestra map’ should come up trumps!
@@sarahkelley8461 This is amazing, but aren't there bass clarinets and saxophone in an orchestra as well?
Me here
Why did you include the gongs, bells, base drum, or celesta?
school made me watch this its probably the most interesting video i've watched for school ever
That’s very kind! Thanks for commenting

2:52 - 3:06 Just a personal timestap for me, a bassoon fan
I’ve played that piece, it’s fun and I admire your taste
Here I am watching this not for school but for my personal gain as a electronic music producer trying to expand my horizon into orchestral music

Why are we not talking about that Tuba excerpt choice, lol?
I went very high brow with that one 😇
I will rewatch again and again just to hear it!
In principle, it is up to the conductor how he/she would like the orchestra to be arranged. - Greetings, Heinz

nice music
I don't know why but harp makes me so emotional
Piccolo is so sweet, it has a fantasy movie vibe
But you skipped over the other instruments like the gong.
Because they're not common in orchestra

James morrison can do all besides the strings (i think)
I think the saxophones are missing, but good video.

Using this as revision for a music test today 😢
Came here to understand the instrument names and how they sound in LMMS

If music had orientation, this would be a part of the first day
Some orchestras have Guitar and you didn’t have most of the percussion instrument
I never even heard half of these. #1 reason I wanted to homeschool my kids, I get to learn all the things I missed in school myself 😆
We learn something every day!
Yaa true
Fire 💯🤙
Is the pipe organ in the Orchestra?
what the names of songs
All links are in description
me watching dis for school means going through the comments
still dont get dis ;-;
Someone please let me know the piece played by the pianist in the video...
+1 on this question. Looking for answer to this question. Thank you
It is called "Elegy for the victims of the tsunami of march 11, 2011 in Japan" composed by the pianist himself, Nobuyuki Tsujii
Apparently my teacher can see if I’ve watched it
When it’s time to combine the School orchestra and band (strings and winds) and you’re happy but then you realize you play Saxophone
AS A BASSIST, I AM EXTREMELY ANGERED BY DOUBLE BASES????
Why?
@@gregoryf4186 spelled doubles basses, not bases
POV you have a listening test in a couple hours...☹️
Good luck!
@@TheMusicologist thank you I'm almost ready for it just rewatching this amazing video ☺️
No saxophone?
Saxophone is not an orchestral instrument, but made as a blending instrument between woodwinds and brass
@@CheukTheGreatestOfEverything I see. Thank you so much for that. :-)
You missed the harpsichord.
Right now I wanna change my instrument to Cello because violin is uncomfortable so I wanna play Cello.
