the kakuno was the third fountain pen i bought (after a kaweco sport and a lamy al-star). that was about 4 years ago. i now have around 30 pens in my collection (and have bought then sold/given away about a dozen more). and i still sometimes feel like 95% of the pens ive acquired since then have been disappointing bc i don’t like them as much as my extra fine kakuno. the kakuno is still light when posted. it’s replaceable in case of damage/misplacement, but doesn’t feel cheap. uncapping is quick and convenient. the nib gives me the perfect scritchy tactile writing experience without being scratchy or shredding the paper. and the extra fine nib excels at keeping waterproof inks like noodlers and de atramentis (document line) under control since these inks tend to spread/bleed more than standard dye-based inks and are often impractical to use with wetter/wider nibs. i just wish pilot would make it available with the ef nib in more colors, and make their steel ef nib available in their other steel nib models like the prera.

Any tips on getting good with cursive? I'm an architect, so I've been writing block letters for ages now. Great review!

I used to have a terrible grip and I think think it needs some improvement. (I grip too hard.) My suggestions is to search for The Palmer Method on archive.org and read the section on pen grip. Then practice, practice, practice :)

Also, the Kaweco clip fits on this pen if you don't like that spinning.
