Are Owls Actually Wise?

Have you heard of the saying 'As wise as an Owl'? Have you ever wondered if owls are actually wise?
It turns out that the saying is largely exclusive to western societies and that the owl is seen as a symbol for many different things around the world.

Dude I am.Indian and that owl thing with Goddess Laxmi is completely false, lol. Owls are considered as animals that brinh prosperity and wealth.

when people(indian) actually sees an owl in front of them then things are different,
we(indian) consider it as bad luck

We worship rat, snake, owl, Nandi, and many animals.
but I was talking about actual behavior. Although it is my personal observation that If someone is seeing an owl at 12 midnight will hardly consider it as good luck

My only encounter with one was the time my friend and i were riding our dirt bikes in the deseet southwest and i stopped near what looked like well.
As i got closer i could see a large white owl just standing there in the well that was full of dirt. Maybe the bird was disoriented or injured in some way, but it stayed in there until we left. Maybe it was not a wise one and couldnt figure out how to get out. Like where is the door ???
