I'm no expert. But I understand why associates years back would ask for my impressions / inputs. Egypt's strong opening is impressive indeed.
But after seeing Japan these karatekas are world's apart. Japan has a centre that is fluid, is seen, appreciated, is developing and connecting well, from her opening breath at start, in her first breaths, she embodies BASICS that are beautiful 🙏. I then watched Egypt again and after 2 minutes her centre is more solid and rigid. Her kata NEEDS more technique that she shows in her first 2 minutes. She, is LESS fluid, less developed so NEEDS to show more technique, does not try to be beautiful? The pretty I like in ALL things, others adore too!
In the past I would say less (I would say "is more," LATER when I learned from others) maybe (?) with BIG question mark on my face! I had no real experience so would grudgingly say less too. This before I LATER became physicist = don't waste energy. Will try to watch the others' katas but had a dose of pretty which is satisfyilng...

Pleased to see, at least someone else, can see the 'The Emperor's New Clothes' syndrome of what Karate and my style Tae Kwon Do has become now. Possibly due to being an old 'fart' now and aged does tend to looking back on one's past as being so much better than what you see around you when much older BUT having learnt and taught TKD in the RAF and early 1970s, what I have just watched or dare I say flicked through, in no way or any fashion relates to the sparring and competition fighting in my time, in fact it is more akin to kids pretending to do so in the playground.
If the decline continues, in another 45 years I expect combatants will be encased in large inflatable suits with poles that they have to tag each other from a very long distance.
