Plus, the adult in-joke, regardless. For goodness sake, sentient were-car Doomie (its full name is Dragster of Doom, but its shorthand name sounds like a request for sex ["Do me"]) was literally made in the vein of Frankenstein's Monster (using discarded car parts & an abnormal brain, hence the car's ability to shift into a were-car when prompted), with BJ as the hunchbacked Igor to Lydia as a female version of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, effectively making BJ & Lydia the creators/"parents" of Doomie. The cartoon still has BJ fixated on Lydia (with a shrine of her inside his mind, managed by his mild-mannered, dweeby Will Power), but Lydia herself, too, also seemed fond of "Mr. Beetleman" (as Lydia's parents referred to him as, since he appeared as a jack-of-all-trades handy man doing odd jobs for the Deetzes just to be closer to Lydia). Lydia: "A spider brooch?! Oh, I could kiss you!" ~Beetlejuice reveals his mouth full of dingy teeth & chock full of beetles~ Lydia: "But I'll just give you a big hug instead." Lydia: "Oh, Betelguese! If we can't be together this summer, I'll scream!' BJ: "Scream anyway Babes, I like having that effect on people!" ~Lydia being enamored with a Boris Karloff spoof character, prompting a jealous BJ to sulk & comment on the matter~ BJ: "And here I thought you had better taste in dead guys (obviously referring to himself)." Edgar Allen Poe: "Woe is me!" BJ: "No, Poe is you." Edgar Allen Poe: "Lost forever more!" BJ: "Yeah, yeah. We heard it all before: You lost your precious love Lenore [1] ." Edgar Allen Poe: "No! I lost YOUR precious Lydia!" BJ: "What?!" Edgar Allen Poe: "And when I lose them, I really lose them." ~Both Edgar Allen Poe & BJ cry, as the scene shifts to Lydia returning with the lost Lenore~ 1. Incidentally, the "Lenore" in question - although obviously reimagined in the _Bettlejuice_ cartoon as a teal-skinned Neitherworld female zombie archetype (strangely modeled after Winona Ryder, kind of) clearly exasperated at the famous horror novelist for his bad sense of direction (contrast this to the now more recognizable adorable little blond girl ghoul of _Lenore, the Little Dead Girl_ fame) - was, in real-life, Edgar Allen Poe's younger, 13-year-old first cousin, whom the famed horror author had a taboo fixation for, despite her still being a minor & he already having reached adulthood. BJ: "Don't worry, Babes! I'll save you from that overgrown jungle exhibit!" Lydia: "Thing Thong (an obvious KIng Kong giant ape parody) is my friend!" BJ: "That ugly thing?" Lydia: "He's not ugly, he's beautiful." BJ: "All I see is a big, ugly hairball & you see something beautiful?" Lydia: "Well, I think you're beautiful." BJ: "I believe this snotrag is yours, miss---I didn't catch your name?" Lydia (in disguise): "I didn't throw it. Come to this address... ~she rattles off a nondescript address meanwhile still clearly flirting with BJ~ ...I have a very juicy bribe to give you." BJ: "One thing still bothers me though, who was that mysterious chick in the veil?" Lydia: ~does her flirty voice~ "Darling, I thought you'd never ask." ~BJ falls over in mock shock~ BJ: "Et tu, Babes?"
Not only was this show on ABC and Fox kids but it was also picked up by Nickelodeon at one point and they had some beetle juice comics in Nickelodeon magazine! Talk about a rich history! Good job on this review!
Then after its run on Nick was over, it transferred to _Cartoon Network_ like _B:TAS_ & _Animaniacs_ (which later moved to Nick & was butchered to hell to remove the WB references) before it did.
@@CozumelTy That's great. It started at 130 when it first came out, and that was already past the era of 40 bucks a season (when DVDs were brand new to the market). Glad it is in the affordable range now. What a great show.
I recently was lucky enough to be able to pick up this series on dvd in addition to the complete Jumanji cartoon, MIB cartoon, and The Mummy cartoon! Some of my all time faves… and the spiderweb poncho was iconic
As an 80s kid I remember this cartoon well, I even had a few of the toys from it. I was introduced to Beetlejuice when my much older cousin married and his wife had me and her niece over to watch the movie, and ever since I've loved all things Tim Burton.
20+ years later I still have "SHOP TILL YOU FREAK at the SPOOKY BOUTIQUE!" stuck in my skull.. I loved this show. It was really a great kids show that actually had good writing.
Damn. You beat me to it lol. My daughter LOVED the big comfy couch and had a Molly doll and the dust bunnies. Alison was also on Canada's Mr Dressup show when she was younger
12:28 additional comedy for the grownups: Jaques LeLean is a play on Jack Lelane, a famous bodybuilder and fitness guru, and Ginger, being a dancer, is a clear reference to Fred Astaire's most frequent dance partner, Ginger Rogers. Fun fact: while everyone praised Fred's dancing skills, Ginger could match him step for step, backwards, AND in high heels.
And The Monster Across the Street was a brown version of Gossamer (Witch Hazel's red-furred, usually mute monster henchman from _Looney Tunes_ shorts usually involving Bugs Bunny) with a thick southern Texas twang to his voice ("What in tarhooties?!" "Yee-haw!"), who loved his female counterpart (The Monstress Around the Block) & her son/his nephew (The Little Monster Around the Corner), just as his pitbull Poopsie loved his female dog counterpart and BJ loved to antagonize all of his neighbors.
I was OBSESSED with this cartoon at 2 yrs old. My mom and dad and I moved out of state bc they were offered a big job. We had no family or friends up there no money for child care so I spent HOURS watching this in our car in a portable camping TV with rabbit ears while my parents worked as they did construction and many of their jobs did not have a completed room that would be safe for me to play in. So mom and dad left the AC or heat on depending on the weather. I had a blanket and pillows in the back and a cooler with snacks and drinks and would camp and play with my toys and watch Beetljuce. Literally one of my earliest core memories. We were super poor but we were actually happy at that point in time. This show got me through a very tough but happy time in my childhood. The short time my parents got along after I was born.
The Burger King equivalent for the Happy Meal was called the "Kids Club Meal" during that particular era, but I'm not sure if it's changed since then. I dunno about anyone else, but I'd LOVE to see a "10 Things" video on Major Dad; particularly a chapter on why the heavily and proudly militaristic US of A has never seen fit to release the series on DVD...that was a weird one to just go "Nope!" for.
I'm glad you made this. I felt like it was a fever dream whenever I talked about this cartoon. It is also why I always pronounce his name with the French accent.
The best Saturday morning cartoon I watched as a kid back then, besides "Garfield and Friends," "Inspector Gadget," "Slimer and the Real Ghostbusters," and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!" Ah, fun memories of watching Saturday morning cartoons! 😊!
My daughter loved the Beetlejuice cartoon and we would always watch it on Saturday mornings. My granddaughter, now her mom's age when the cartoon was first broadcast can watch it anytime she wants since we have all four seasons on DVD!
16:06 I had the deepest honor of meeting Tara back in January at a convention in New Orleans 16:56 Tabitha also did the voice for Nazz in the first season of Ed Edd n Eddy
On TTG, he was voiced by the Broadway musical's Alex Brightman, rather than Stephen Omelet (the voice actor from this cartoon) or Michael Keaton (who portrayed him in the 1988 film & its 2024 sequel).
Minty I love what you do for the world through your channel. Been subscribed for longer than I can remember and can count the number of episodes I didn't have an interest in on half a hand! Keep up the great work and dedication to bringing us these awesome videos
Yes this Beetlejuice Series is Definitely a Classic Show and I will have to Revisit this Show!! It brings back some Memories and All!! Great Job Mr. Minty!
Tara Strong is awesome. She is also Twilight Sparkle, Dil Pickles, Timmy Turner, and the voice for Ted's "I Love You" button. Obviously, there are so many more as well. Those are just some of my favorites that weren't mentioned.
Holy sh*t! Of course! It's so obvious, I can't believe I couldn't tell. I'm currently re-watching the cartoon, which is what led me to this video, and I'm sat here listening to Lydia thinking *"Her voice sounds a little familiar"* but didn't think twice about it lol Thanks for the fact 👍
I don't think the biggest deviation is Beetlejuice becoming the good guy or friend cuz I think that was always possible I think the biggest deviation is not having the maitlands in it
The thing is, Burton felt The Maitlands were too dull & boring to focus an animated show around (despite their being the main characters in the 1988 film), since most people equate the _Beetlejuice_ IP overall with Burton himself (and his grimdark aesthetic), Winona Ryder's suicidal emo-turned-perky goth chick Lydia Deetz, and Michael Keaton's seedy, lecherous, faux bio-exorcist, conman poltergiest named after the red giant star in the "armpit" of the constellation Orion the Hunter more than they do anything else (sans maybe Catherine O'Hara as Lydia's modernist avant garde artiste stepmother Delia Deetz).
At almost 50, I STILL haven't seen the movie. But, I destroyed many bowls of cereal watching the cartoon! Since the sequel is coming out, I guess I'll watch the original AND binge the cartoon before the sequel's release.
This weekend at working at work I thought up something probably original (or maybe not). I see the Beetlejuice character a cross between or "the walking dead (a walker) meets Batman's Joker"
@@TheTacticalBat Well.....typed it. I have never had their Chicken Nuggets. I am an odd one. The ONLY thing I have ever eaten from BK (not counting the French Fries) was the Original Chicken Sandwich. Never had a whopper, never had their nuggets, never had any other kind of chicken sandwich that they offer. Just their Original Chicken Sandwich.
I remember running around with a friend, repeating "Beetlejuice" three times at random fire hydrants and and streetlamps in hopes that he was one in disguise.
Hi Minty! I worked at Burger back then. The meals were officialy known as Burger King "Kid's Club" Meals. At work, we would usually just shorten it to "Kid's Meals". However they would most commonly would be referred to as BK Kid's Meals. I miss those Chicken Bites! 🐔 ❤
Now that I say the "official" name out loud, the "Kid's Club" part MAY explain why Burger King had access to the toys!? What, with the Fox Kid's Club Tie In etcetera. Let's not forget the Batman Returns Toy fiasco with BK too! 😮
I’m watching this cartoon right now on WBTV Cartoon Rewind on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video and that’s awesome because I haven’t watched it since 1991.
Some of my most favorite toys as a young kid were the official Beetlejuice toys. So naturally the cartoon was also one of my favorites for a time in the very early 90s.
Not to be too nit-picky but as a Canuck I think I should point out the animation studio's name is pronounced as Nell-Vanna. They also put out the theatrical movie Rock & Rule.
I have vague memories of this. I remember the intro really well, and a lot of the characters, but next to nothing about any of the plots of any episodes. Given when the show aired though, that makes sense as I was like 2-4 years old then.
I remember really liking that show. Now that I think of it, it was one of the few shows back then that I remember that had a strong female and a strong male character. So many cartoons had strong male characters and female characters that needed rescuing...Voltron. There were some shows that had strong female characters, like Jem and the Holograms and She-ra, and some that were male dominated, but had a token female character who was strong, Ahh, Real Monsters. But the Beetlejuice cartoon had two main characters of opposite gender on equal footing powerwise and storywise.
the one thing i know about the show is how i saw this first as a kid, then watched the movie years later and realize that Adam and Barbara weren't in it nor Lydia and Beetlejuice became friends..... Also (as i want to be one of those viewers who would find error in your videos) Doomie doesn't actually talk in the show. He makes noises but don't talk
The big orange monster across the street is definitely the same orange monster in bugs bunny. The one Bugs put dynamite sticks for curlers in his hair.
Thank you for making this video! I was in 7th, 8th and 9th grade when this aired and I (and my goth best friend, lol) loved it just as much as younger kids did. As a matter of fact, now at 48 years old, I have found the cartoon series on Tubi and I"ve been binge-watching it and I enjoy it now just as much as I did way back then, but now it has a more nostalgic feel. I also loved the movie and I still do and I'm looking forward to the new one.

I'll save you from that overgrown jungle exhibit!" Lydia: "Thing Thong (an obvious KIng Kong giant ape parody) is my friend!" BJ: "That ugly thing?" Lydia: "He's not ugly, he's beautiful." BJ: "All I see is a big, ugly hairball & you see something beautiful?" Lydia: "Well, I think you're beautiful."
BJ: "I believe this snotrag is yours, miss---I didn't catch your name?" Lydia (in disguise): "I didn't throw it.
@@TherealRNOwwfpoohHe's just playing the long game. In this timeline, Lydia isn't planning to hurl herself out of a window, so he has time.
This brought back so many memories, I love this, the tales from the crypt and the Addams family 90s cartoon, a video on that would be awesome
I love the cotton.
Of the , Adams family.
I loved this a a kid and the Linda lies episode is the best, I still have that chant stuck in my head 😂
The skeletons in the closet one right?
@@moonscar119 that’s the one!
@jet9797 one of the best episodes. Beetlejuice bought his home specifically because it had a large closet to hold his skeletons in lmao
@@moonscar119 That's the one they based one of the BJ videogames over.
"You mean I'm the ghost with the most.... points?!"
And all the beetles racing through his teeth.
Burger king had kids meals with the cool Beetlejuice toys! Had em all!
I just got the DVD set and boom here you go with a video for me! Thank you. 🎉
Is it still 90 bucks for the set?
@@TheRadioAteMyTV I am here in the US and I got the set on EBay in pretty much mint condition for $20.
@@CozumelTy That's great. It started at 130 when it first came out, and that was already past the era of 40 bucks a season (when DVDs were brand new to the market). Glad it is in the affordable range now. What a great show.
@@TheRadioAteMyTV It's on TUBI for free.
Hello my childhood. Nice to see you again. Love this show ^_^
I recently was lucky enough to be able to pick up this series on dvd in addition to the complete Jumanji cartoon, MIB cartoon, and The Mummy cartoon!
No its actually.
LIKE, shop till you freak... 😂
Love the beejuice cartoon growing up as a kid
Fun fact: Allyson Court was also Loonette on the kid's show Big Comfy Couch!
Damn. You beat me to it lol. My daughter LOVED the big comfy couch and had a Molly doll and the dust bunnies. Alison was also on Canada's Mr Dressup show when she was younger
Teenage me was always glued to the set when it was 'stretch time' 😆
She was also originally denied the role of Jubilee because of this role
And is married to Steve from "Blue's Clues."
She did that show a year after Beetlejuice cartoon came to an end in 1992
12:28 additional comedy for the grownups: Jaques LeLean is a play on Jack Lelane, a famous bodybuilder and fitness guru, and Ginger, being a dancer, is a clear reference to Fred Astaire's most frequent dance partner, Ginger Rogers.
Absolutely 💯 loved this show and movie as a kid!
Beetlejuice cracked me up as a kid! Loved this cartoon!
With all those links to X-Men, I think you'll have to make "10 things you didn't know about X-Men: The Animated Series."
I'll 2nd that.
I loved this show as a kid. My twin brother went as Beetlejuice and Lydia for one Halloween when we were kids.
16:06 I had the deepest honor of meeting Tara back in January at a convention in New Orleans
16:56 Tabitha also did the voice for Nazz in the first season of Ed Edd n Eddy
I loved this show
Dad had us stationed in Germany and on AFN this played every single Saturday morning i never missed a episode and loved every moment of it
I used to watch this as a kid, thanks Minty!!!!
I watched that cartoon religiously. My favorite things is when he'd crack a joke and the "Hoo Hoo" sound would play. I so loved that.
#1 IT WAS AWESOME!! 👍
Thanks Minty 😎
I loved this series more than the movie as a kid!
No wonder the show is so freaking good it had a lot of legends working on it literal legends of the industry
Lydia would call him bj ,beeg , her stepmom would call him Mr beetlemen , beetlejuice would call Charles Chuck , etc
This aired on Cartoon Network before (according to some Promos on TH-cam) and BeetleJuice was a Guest Star on Teen Titans Go
On TTG, he was voiced by the Broadway musical's Alex Brightman, rather than Stephen Omelet (the voice actor from this cartoon) or Michael Keaton (who portrayed him in the 1988 film & its 2024 sequel).
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh Cool
Minty I love what you do for the world through your channel. Been subscribed for longer than I can remember and can count the number of episodes I didn't have an interest in on half a hand! Keep up the great work and dedication to bringing us these awesome videos
I have the complete dvd collection. Cant wait to watch the new movie
Button it up Karla! I loved her in senior trip.
Omi from xailon showdown
Extreme Ghostbusters i remember her mostly from.
Miss Minutes
She does tend to get typecast in roles, many of which sound and behave the same...
Loved this one!! I remember the intro animation looking better than the rest of the show.
Fun fact: Lydia's voice actor also voiced Jubilee in 1992's X-Men TAS.
She was also Claire Redfield from RE.
Not only there Beetlejuice voice actors from X-men also voice actors from Sailor Moon.
Holy sh*t! Of course! It's so obvious, I can't believe I couldn't tell. I'm currently re-watching the cartoon, which is what led me to this video, and I'm sat here listening to Lydia thinking *"Her voice sounds a little familiar"* but didn't think twice about it lol Thanks for the fact 👍
Lydia Deets and Jubilee were my 1st cartoon crushes.
I would have never brought T2 and this together. Well done 👏
I don't think the biggest deviation is Beetlejuice becoming the good guy or friend cuz I think that was always possible
I think the biggest deviation is not having the maitlands in it
The thing is, Burton felt The Maitlands were too dull & boring to focus an animated show around (despite their being the main characters in the 1988 film), since most people equate the _Beetlejuice_ IP overall with Burton himself (and his grimdark aesthetic), Winona Ryder's suicidal emo-turned-perky goth chick Lydia Deetz, and Michael Keaton's seedy, lecherous, faux bio-exorcist, conman poltergiest named after the red giant star in the "armpit" of the constellation Orion the Hunter more than they do anything else (sans maybe Catherine O'Hara as Lydia's modernist avant garde artiste stepmother Delia Deetz).
I remember watching this as a kid, I loved this cartoon need to rewatch it
At almost 50, I STILL haven't seen the movie. But, I destroyed many bowls of cereal watching the cartoon! Since the sequel is coming out, I guess I'll watch the original AND binge the cartoon before the sequel's release.
Probably one of the top 3 Burton movies
Concerning the talking car, I'm surprised you didn't also make the connection between it and Speed Buggy. Great video Minty. Keep it up.
This weekend at working at work I thought up something probably original (or maybe not). I see the Beetlejuice character a cross between or "the walking dead (a walker) meets Batman's Joker"
Loved this cartoon! The intro was an animation feast!
i loved the cartoon and toys
I absolutely adored this cartoon. The movie is one of my favorite movies ever as well
I had those crappie Burger King toys!! 😂 memories. You couldn't even really play with em!
That's cause they were rubber statues with built-in poses/expressions, with two characters (or sometimes more) on either side.
5:09 glad we got both with WB taking on the art for Bats
The Burger King happy meal name was either Kids meal or Kids club meal depending the era.
Huge Burton fan. And this show was some of his best work imo.
Such a fan that I have numerous Burton characters tatt’d on my back.
I believe the Burger King equivalent to the "Happy Meal" was the Burger King" Kids Club" meal.
The BK Kids Club was legit and had better chicken nuggets, yeah I said it.
One of a kind series...a little girl who lived with a demonic being who often takes her to hell....and she Loves it
There were so many jokes and puns in the series that adults like me could appreciate..
I remember running around with a friend, repeating "Beetlejuice" three times at random fire hydrants and and streetlamps in hopes that he was one in disguise.
2:35 I remember those toys, you put something in the casket and it will disappear
I remembered the cartoon show more than the movie, same with Ghost Busters. The movies are great, but i love the cartoon shows more.
Nelvana was a Canadian-based company, and the X- Men cartoon used Canadian voice actors as well. Hey, you take your voice where the work is!
This brought back a lot of memories, love the outfit Minty ❤
Please do a video on the Beetlejuice musical
Did I hear " Poultry-geist" ?!...🤔😃😆😅😂
That's just...awesome.
Thanks Minty.
Also fun fact the show also was on both Nickelodeon and cartoon network
Great job minty! I really like the creepy music in your intro. Was that from the cartoon?
I used to love this show lol
Some of my most favorite toys as a young kid were the official Beetlejuice toys. So naturally the cartoon was also one of my favorites for a time in the very early 90s.
Not to be too nit-picky but as a Canuck I think I should point out the animation studio's name is pronounced as Nell-Vanna. They also put out the theatrical movie Rock & Rule.
He made me wonder if I have been saying it wrong my whole life, then I remembered his specialty is saying names wrong.
Now I'm gonna go listen to a Nir-vinna album
I have vague memories of this. I remember the intro really well, and a lot of the characters, but next to nothing about any of the plots of any episodes. Given when the show aired though, that makes sense as I was like 2-4 years old then.
I loved this this animated series. men are beautiful too
I remember really liking that show.
The episode I remember most was the "Pat on the Back" one. Strangely, it made me appreciate how you say things more when conversing with someone.
Minty, for your next video, you should do the “Back to the Future” cartoon.
Im going back in time!!!🎶
Awesome-tacular 😂🤣😜✌️🥃
The big orange monster across the street is definitely the same orange monster in bugs bunny. The one Bugs put dynamite sticks for curlers in his hair.
Start the video over. Close your eyes and listen to the description of the cartoon…. Sounds almost exactly like Rick and Morty.
Love this series so much!
I had beetle juice action figure
Oh I just love watching this cartoon after school back in the late 80s and early 90s! Couldn't get enough of it!
