    Here's a list of all of the rods on the Tenkara Addict website, including links to a lot of them: tenkaraaddict.com/2023rods/. Also, what rods should I try out this year? -Tristan

    67 rods… now that’s minimalist fly fishing! When I first started following you, you had like 20 rods. 👍🏻 Thanks for the review! 😁

    I'm quite fond of your annual rod inventories. In fact (you can call me odd), I often go back and watch them again. In the July 27, 2019, version I'm thinking, "He's been the 'Tenkara Addict' for less than a year, and he doesn't know yet where it's headed. He has two rods and very little other gear, but he's still catching the fish." He's sitting on a camp stool with cows mooing in the background, swatting mosquitoes as he speaks. But it turns out that he's a rapid learner, and he will become the sensei (先生 せんせい (sensei, “teacher; elder”), the young master of the sport. He has Alex, his own teacher, who had more skill in the beginning, and who stands behind him, and who probably picked up tenkara after learning traditional fly fishing earlier in life. But now he has become an experienced master, like Tom Davis, who goes back almost to the beginning of tenkara in the US. He has learned rapidly and become steadier with experience, a modest man with real skills. And now he has 67 (!!) rods. That would impress even Tom Davis.

      Yep, I was just a tenkara addict in embryo back then 😄 And nah, I'm not a master. I just fish a lot and have a lot of rods. But I'm glad you enjoy these videos. You're a big reason the collection keeps growing!

    Thank you for your time. I am a newly retired newbie that has been learning with a 12 foot Wild Water starter kit I bought for 50 bucks. Its time to upgrade and hit the streams for trout and still water for pan fish and bass. Your info is priceless. Thanks again.

    You make the most enjoyable fishing content I've seen on TH-cam. I found you about a week ago and been loving it! Have you been fishing in Minnesota yet? That is where I'll be going for my first tenkara experience when weather gets better and I'm so excited!
    Thanks for all you do!

    I get the collecting thing.......as I look over at 325 straight razors in a display case... It is good to say " I have used this one" . Thanks for all the details I just picked up a Tiny Ten 2 as my new backyard is right next to the Golden Trout wilderness and the Forks of the Kern. I have a couple fly rigs buy I think you have pointed out I may have made a good choice for the smaller streams. Nice show you put on here Thanks !

    I have the rocky from tenkara rod co. I use it for steelhead and salmon couldn’t be happier in the shorter setting a bit stiff but over all it’s a good rod for big fish.

  • @TheDude1776
    @TheDude1776 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have you ever thought about doing a quick tip video on the whole Tenkara process for the rookies? I know you have shown what's in your bag as far as line and flies. Definitely see the rods.
    How about a how to locate a good stream "quicky", packing for the fishing trip (i.e. what is in the bag update), and then the hike in and the slaying itself. Much of this has been sort of shared throughout the years but not in one video.
    I think this would be a highly watched video. What do you think?

  • @Microfishingstory
    @Microfishingstory ปีที่แล้ว

    There are some great darters and shiners throughout the country that would be great on those tanago rods. I know you aren’t much into the multi-species/lifelisting (at least on the channel) but those little rods can be fun if you bring along a tiny critter keeper to get a close up look at some of the colors before putting them back.

    7:07 I have that one too, but the thread wrapping on the handle of mine wasn't secured properly straight out of the packaging, so it's just a mess down there. I put some grip tape over it to hold it together. Haven't fished that rod yet.

    • @TenkaraAddict

    I do a lot of ultralight spinning for panfish and commonly use 1/80 oz jigs. I've found that my 18' Keiryu rod works well for that. I have tied those jigs onto a 12' tenkara rod and it works but feels like a boat anchor on the end of the line.

    Great vid as a person who's just recently gotten into.Tenkara from standard fly fishing I've only fished the cheaper rods a few you've done from goture and I actually like them for the small stocked streams here in PA , probably because I've not used an expensive rod BUT if I broke a 200 $ rod like I have a 30$ one I'd probably just quit lol ps your vids are what got me started down this road and I absolutely thank you it's been awesome so far

    Great video. About a year ago I purchased my first rod, and inexpensive rod, as per your advice and the rod was great. However, I broke the tip the second time out but fortunately they included and extra tip. I've been using the rod as is because I like it but I'm considering for my next rod to upgrade to a double or triple length rod. Your recent purchase, the Suntec Tenkara bum traveler sound interesting. I'm certainly going to follow your recommendations no matter what the rod. Your advice was perfect the first time so why change a good thing. Thanks again.

    I have three Goture rods now, a Seeker, Moonlight, and one without a fancy name. I like them all. The longest I have, 12ft, is definitely a bit of a beast, but it works well. I'm actually going to set it up for catfishing and see how it does. I lost the cap for that one over the winter though. I had it in my kayak, went out, flipped the yak, and that cap was the only thing that disappeared.

    • @TenkaraAddict
      @TenkaraAddict  ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you ever try out the Bitterling rod? (Professional Trust Rakutsuri Bitterling Universal 120) Just received one to use for bait fishing. Also, would you recommend the Dragontail Mizuchi as a first Tenkara rod for trout in the 12-16" range with the occasional crappie, bluegill? Torn between the Mizuchi and the Mutant, both look like they would work.

  • @logannewman4532
    @logannewman4532 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know exactly how I would use that 4' rod. There is a lake north of me with a ton of invasive green sunfish and there are 1-2 inch fish all over the place. I use my tenkara rod to catch them for bait and have thought it would be nice to have a super short rod for the job.

  • @dvdschaub
    @dvdschaub ปีที่แล้ว

    Gotta put in a plug for the Aventik 9' Nano rod. It's a great rod for small fish in a small creek. Would be hard to land a 10" trout with it, tho. I've actually caught more fish with it than with my Dragontail Shadowfire.

  • @newfydog3543

    There is a simple mathematical formula to calculate the proper number of rods: Q (quiver) = (n+1); where n= the number of rods you currently own. Recalculate after obtaining a new rod.
    If you diversify your methods a bit you’ll find you can justify quite a few more. Some of those compact stiff cheap rods are great to rig with tungsten euro nymphs. Toss one in your pack and bounce the bottom of the occasional very deep hole.

    From tiny ice rods and tanago poles to a 10 meter telescoping cane pole and a deep sea rod that landed a 134 pound halibut I probably have 20 or so total. I don’t have a problem, so I would say that even if you do have a problem it’s no bigger than 47 poles.

    I just purchased and used the Wasatch Tenkara Rod Darth Quattro rod (my review is here: th-cam.com/video/iJH8QzDVQ6A/w-d-xo.html). I grabbed the 6:4 action because I sometimes get into larger fish. It felt amazing at the smaller lengths! At the 8'6" length it felt a little clunky and imbalanced. After attaching a line holder that got better as well. I'm excited to see you use that one and compare the 5:5 action. Thanks so much for your videos and all the time you spend entertaining all of us!

  • @frankkawasaki3082
    @frankkawasaki3082 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tristan: You use the words "fishing" and "casting" throughout your video. I, however, think you mean casting, as the fly needs to be cast to certain specific spots. I have to believe that you are not fishing the fly to specific spots on the stream. After realizing that you are often reducing the length of the rod, or lengthening the tenkara rod, it would seem that the line needs to be changed to fit the length of the rod, whenever you are changing the length of the rod. Can the Designers of the tenkara rod assist you in determining the length of the line, afterall they designed the rod and the lengths of the rod. Hopefully, I am making some sense, as you are casting the line which happens to have a fly at the end of your line and leader.
