I will say "melodeath" is one of my absolute favorite subgenres of metal, and I so enjoyed when I discovered OG because I believe they do it beautifully. Be'lakor is another top band for me, as well as some choice songs from maybe Insomnium and Dark Tranquility.
Anyways, I am very pleased to have found you and have really enjoyed going through the back catalog! Easy Sub for me and thank you for inspiring me to delve deeper into the beautiful Finnish culture
The verdict is in, you guys in Finland have the best symphonic rock/metal/progressive music. I'm packing my bags and drums and moving there!

Drummers are always needed! As a foreigner living in Finland, the weather sucks lol, so unless you're really into long, dark winters, prepare yourself mentally.

Love the flow of Finnish melodeath, especially when Markus Vanhala is involved in writing the music. I feel it matches the landscapes of this beautiful country, as well as the tonality/rhythm of the finnish language (even if the song is in english).

Thank you so much, that was very interesting, especially for me as an OG fan who is learning Finnish! I have also seen the interview, that was beautiful, and I wonder, would you like to check out what Jukka did with his previous band Elenium? His vocals were quite different and really variative back in the day... Unfortunately they have only made a video for "Up The Long Ladder" which is not the most interesting case by that means, but that would be really sweet to hear what you think! Grunting vocals and overall great instrumental sound. Listening to this Suomi band more than once Finland shows again to be the groundbase of death metal power. Moi moi Anna, thanks for this choice and as always enjoying your unique comments.

Jukka is interesting vocalist and really cool to hear insights of his performances, though you cannot see much of him on their music videos, even when those are really well produced. Fronting a really great band with different kinds of material, keeping their original scandi black metal sound on top with varying amount of spices like prog, heavy and 80's. In Origin, one of most interesting pieces is In Front of Me, Infected Mushroom cover.

Yes, Insomnium!!! They have new album coming and have shot at least one new music video with Riivata Visuals guys. Also Niilo's vocals are probably more acceptable to people who are not accustomed to harsh vocals as Jukka's. Speaking of Riivata Visuals, I think Atlas needs to be introduced to more people. One of the best new Finnish metal bands out there.

HI Anna , I am one of your subs. I get the biggest kick out of some of the song suggestions you get. “ Hey Anna...... Do a video of Donnie and the Donuts doing “Stop picking my nose hair” ”. Some of the requests are pretty far out as you well know. Back in the day ( right after the 3rd ice age) there was an all girl rock band in the 80's (USA) called Vixen. As you well know, rock bands are kind of a guys thing. Because they were girls , they were pretty much ignored. That shouldn't have happened. A lot of todays girl pop stars are vocalists, but they can't play anything. There really haven't been that many girl bands and there should be more. Of all the girls bands that have come along thru the years from the Runaways to the Bengals to the newer K pop girl bands, these girls (Vixen) were very, very good musicians. I am a musician and I can tell you that you would notice the same. They had a few hits in the 80's and did a few things with MTV , back when MTV actually played music. I am hopeful you will at least drop test this video I will link. These girls were a real 80's rock band and it will be worth checking this out if only for the hair ( Aqua net, the wind never had a chance ). One reality of this, these girls are now your Grandmothers age. Not kidding. They are all in there 60's today. Anna, this will not disappoint you and it will not be a waste of your time Thanks Jen. I only know 'Blade Reflecions' by these guys. Probably not the best vocalist out there, but good musicians. Atlas is anther good Finnish metal band.

Eksyin tänne ihan sattumalta, mutta kiva niin! Mielenkiintoinen analyysi! OG on kyllä yksi lempibändiäni (melodeath on kieltämättä itselleni sydämeni läheisimpiä metallin alatyyleistä) ja The Unknowing on puolestaan yksi suurimpia suosikkeja heiltä.
Mitä tulee Originiin, en ole niin innostunut siitä. En osaa ihan täysin sanoa miksi, kun en ole hyvä analysoimaan kuulemaani. Kenties se vaan on hieman liian kaukana omasta mausta? Tykkään, jos musa on eeppistä, melodista ja samalla raskasta. Vasta viime aikoina olen taas avautunut uudelle musalle ja täysin hullaantunut esim. Shadow of Intentiin, mikä on mielestäni juuri täydellinen esimerkki eeppisestä musasta, joka on melodinen ja raskas samaan aikaan.
Ja niin paljon kuin rakastan örinää (yli kaiken, raja lähestyy pakkomiellettä 🤣), mitä tulee teknisiin asioihin tämän kohdalla, tiedän nämä vain hyvin pintapuolisesti enkä osaa itse tuottaa.
Joo ja kyllä ymmärrän, että joillekin örinä pilaa koko biisin. Uskoisin, että suurimmalle osalle meistä, jotka siitä nauttii, se on acquired taste. Tai ainakin omalla kohdalla. Muistan vieläkin, kun sain käsiini Insomnium eka levyn aikoinaan. Örinän raakuus samalla kiehtoi ja samalla en ollut oikein varma, mitä mieltä oon ja tykkäänkö siitä vai en. Ja Niilo kun vielä kuulostaa lempeältä, jopa tuudittavalta eikä oikeastaan raa'alta verrattuna muihin. Tosin monelle näyttää olevan helpompi tie, kun mieltyy niihin bändeihin, jotka tykkää käyttää runsaasti puhdasta laulua örinän rinnnalla. Itse en siitä useimmiten tykkää, mutta hyvä on, että jokaiselle löytyy mieleistä.
Ja ensi kuussa Insomniumin levyjulkkarikeikka. 😍
Pitää tsekata, mitä muuta mielenkiintoista löytyy kanavaltasi, haastattelu Jukan kanssa ainakin kiinnostaa. :)

If you're not totally deterred by them, give it a chance. Also you might like Insomnium if you like OG. Since around 2011, they've shared the same guitarist and songwriter (not the sole one for Insomnium though). And Insomnium's vocalist is mellower, less aggressive sounding, rather sorrowful and quite soft IMO. I'd say for most, growling is an acquired taste.
Please, react to Lovebites: Epilogue, Edge of the World and Empty daydream (3E ballads), all female metal band from Japan or Chopin etude+Swan song, the best power metal band of this period, no death metal but life metal!

Musiikki hienoa, mutta tuo kuolonkarjunta ei nappaa. Miten he pystyvät tuohon jatkuvasti ilman että vahingoittavat kurkkuaan? Jos reagoisit johonkin tuvalaiseen kurkkulaulantaan, niin saisimme selvyyttä tähän!
Ja aina voi reageerata Home Freen videoihin sekä vaikka juuri tänään ilmestyneeseen The Hound + The Foxin alkuperäiskappaleeseen A Whistling Lad.
Ihan samalla tavalla tekniikkaa tarvitaan tuohonkin ku melodian laulamiseen.

Moikka Tarja! Ymmärrän, että tällainen laulutyyli jakaa mielipiteitä. Home Freetä löytyy kanavaltani useampi video, Omnium Gatherumia tämä yksi. Pidetään monipuolisuutta yllä. :)
Tällaisessa laulutyylissä ei itseasiassa käytetä oikeita äänihuulia, vaan valeäänihuulia, jotka sijaitsevat oikeiden äänihuulien yläpuolella. Tämä tekniikka käyttää myös hyväksi ääntöväylän muita resonoivia kudoksia jotka tuovat/vahvistavat haluttua hälyääntä. Oikeita äänihuulia puristamalla ja käyttämällä saisi varmasti kurkun kipeäksi. :)
@@annavaskelainen Yritin etsiä jonkun mojovan kurkkulaulantavideon - tuvalaista on paljon, mutta monissa pääasia oli ”overtone singing”, joka onkin todella hienoa. Ehdottaisin videota, johon koostettu useampia naislaulajia: kanavalta KUULAR videota Amazing female throat singing.

Their music is really good, I just can't get into those harsh vocals. I would definitely listen to more of their songs, if it weren't for these screams. I looked up the lyrics and they're actually quite interesting. Unfortunately it's hard to hear them when he's screaming like that. However, I totally enjoyed their overall sound and riffs.
Yup, it seems to divide people a lot! Omnium Gatherum has a lot of very poetic expressions and themes in their songs actually! Good analysing from my favorite Martine!
The music was great, but the singing is not my style. 👋🧐 🇫🇮 Finland has many great musicians though.
