What a beautiful and relaxing cab ride ! Thank you so much for the great job filming and sharing with the world this wonderful sights and rides. We love you!!!
Many thanks! I am glad that so many people enjoy watching the video. I am delighted to be able to share all those beautiful journeys with the public worldwide. There is some new content arriving in the next few months...
Apart from the beauty of the scenery, every Swiss cab ride video I watch impresses me with the quality of Swiss railway engineering, the sense of their politicians that allows infrastructure to be built, and the maintenance of the built lines. Have a look at cab ride videos from the UK, France, Italy, Croatia, etc. There are weeds growing up through the stations and the siding tracks. The station buildings look like derelict, abandoned buildings. They look like third world railway systems that have been allowed to decay.
Dear Roadie3124, thank you for your comment which I share entirely. As a Swiss, I can confirm that all the Federal Railways infrastructures and systems are of high quality, very clean, tidy and reliable. But travelling by train in Switzerland is expensive. Maintaining the railway network in good conditions costs a lot of money. The policy of our governement is to levy taxes on private means of transportation and maintain rather high prices for railway tickets. There is also a subscription system to reduce fares for those who travel daily or very often by train. If the individual transportation means would face a crisis due to petrol shortage for instance, Switzerland would still be able to offer good travel conditions to its people (at some rush hours with overcrowded trains of course). Thank you for your attention.
Such a mesmerizing view from the train driver's perspective! The Glacier Express journey through Switzerland is truly a feast for the eyes. Thanks for taking us along on this scenic ride through the stunning Swiss Alps!
Thank you for this cab-ride on this spectacular rail route and in this wonderful landscape. I hope we can continue with you this ride all the way to St. Moritz, soon.
Herzlichen Dank!
@removock3364 Danke. Thank you for your compliments. It is a very nice journey indeed. I cut the tunnel because my camera is no good in low light, so it is impossible to see anything. I am investing in a new camera with better performance at low light to film some tunnels.
Rack rails, spiral tunnels, and snowy scenery make this a true Swiss railway ! 🏔😍 I was a little disappointed that I couldn't see the branching point to the sub-tunnel of Furka Base Tunnel.🚇 thank you so much !👍
There are two cross-over points in Furka Base Tunnel (Geren and Rotondo), and there is also a access/escape tunnel at the middle (Bedretto ventilation tunnel) built to speed up the construction, which is actually used today by ETH Zurich as a geothermal research laboratory. Originally, there were ideas of a star with trains also being able to go to Bedretto but at the end it is a narrower access/escape tunnel (look for Bedretto-Fenster). But it's hard to see anything inside, tunnel is very dark and it's easy to miss the cross-overs if there is no incoming trains.

@paolopetronio8260 The image quality in the tunnel was very bad, it was impossible to see anything. That's why I cut the tunnel. I am investing in another camera that has better performance in low light.
Hello , I enjoyed the train ride with the stunning views.Switzerland is truly a magical country , and i was lucky to go to school in the village of Glion next to lake Geneva. Just 1 question, at the station of Realp, there was a car train being unloaded. Are they brand new cars being delivered, or are they people with their cars ? If they are the public with their cars why do they use the train and where has the train arrived from ? Thank you Jason
@jaycfc6955 There is a car train between Oberwald and Realp through the base Furka Tunnel. It is for the passengers with cars, in order to arrive faster and to avoid Furka pass road. The trip takes around 20 minutes and gives you a time save of 45 minutes, compared to driving over the Furka pass.
The Y, V, or W arrangement of rail sleepers allows the track to have more stability. Each sleeper is connected to the one infront and the one behind so load can be transferred across or along a track assembly. In addition on inclines the rack loads are distributed across the assembly and not the individual sleepers. Can be used for any track gauge. Main line Singen to Schaffhausen has them on some boggy ground.
Truly a beautiful line with beautiful scenery, plowing through the Rhone valley until reaching the Furka Pass and Andermatt. I remember that a few years ago or not long ago either you or some other TH-camr had followed the old Realp-Odenwald steam rack route! Beautiful areas as always... From the Brig junction under the Simplon to the Furka, well I had only seen this line on atlases. Thanks for sharing it! The Grengiols spiral tunnel is spectacular! Even on the old Gotthard line, going up and down there are several. I wanted to know two things if you can answer me: 1) I think you put the Go-pro on the fuselage of the train on the front but do you do it because it's just an amateur passion or are you a train driver for work? 2) What permits are needed to stay in the cabin? I don't think everyone can get on moving locomotives! Waiting for answers as usual I still have a lot of your videos to watch and I will do so soon I hope! A thousand thanks!
@wladislaw79 Thank you for your comment. I am not a train driver, just a videographer and an amateur and about the permits, it depends on the railway company. It is not easy to get it and not easy to go to the drivers cab.

This is 1000mm. In Switzerland, mainline railways are standard gauge (1435mm) while these Alpine mountain (MGB and RhB being largest) railways are 1000mm (plus of course some of the tram, funicular and local rail systems). There are also few short 800mm lines in Switzerland as well but they are rare.
