  • This video walks you through setting up a new printer in Cura 4.0 and discusses creating a printer definition from scratch.
    After waiting weeks, you just received your new 3d printer and completed assembling it. You have printed the model on the SD card without problem but now you are to print some models from the Internet.
    So you download Cura, select add printer, and your printer is not listed. What should you do?
    This video steps you through setting up Cura for your first print and covers printers listed in Cura, printers similar to printers listed in Cura and printer you need to configure from scratch.
    Here is the link to download Cura:

    Please leave any questions in the comments and let's continue to learn new things together.

    Great and extremely helpful video, I haven’t been able to figure out why Cura can’t stick to the bed but when I use Slic3r I have no issues. I think all I needed to do was adjust the layer height and I should be good. Now to figure out how to prime blob in a line across the top of the heat bed so my prints don’t have stray filament messing them up.

    Your videos are so helpful. I'm new to all this, but I was going pretty good until I downloaded Cura v 4.1. BIG mistake. All my settings now are gone and I've spent 2 days trying to get back to it. For the life of me, I can't get the print to start in the middle of the bed. No matter the changes I've made in settings, it starts on the very left edge of the bed. Not left of center, I mean the actual EDGE OF THE GLASS. It's insane. Can you help? Suggestions?

    Hi Dr Vax, I also found this video a pleasant pace with great information. I apologise if this has been covered here somewhere, or more recently - I'm very new to the 3D scene. My son has gifted me an Ender3 with some mods, which he has run successfully at his place. The only option I didn't see / hear in the video was whether he can export a working profile from his copy of Cura and then import it into mine. Any thoughts ??? Thanks, Steve.

    Any chance that you have Octolapse on your list of 'to do' videos for Ender 5 ?

    • @MakeWithTech
      @MakeWithTech  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used Octolapse and found it has a negative impact on print quality. I think it is ok to capture a video if you are going to throw away the print.
      The problem is that it adds gcode to the print stream to move the print head to a standard position so it can be removed from the image. This messes with the cooling and overall temperature of the filament.
      Take a look at my video titled “I broke my printer ...” where I talk about this.

    Since Cura determines the initial layer height above the build plate, what is the purpose of calibrating the Z height on my Prusa MK3?

    • @MakeWithTech
      @MakeWithTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can think of your slicer sitting above the printers z offset. The z offset is the distance from the bottom of your auto bed leveling probe to the print surface. This only impacts first layer height.

  • @shad0wa1kerz9mm
    @shad0wa1kerz9mm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I would like to test print some files to be sure I've built this machine correctly . Could you help me please & thanks.

    • @MakeWithTech
      @MakeWithTech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy to try and help. The Sapphire Pro specs look impressive, please report how this goes. I believe you could get started by just my video, step by step, and selecting an Ender 5 as your starting point. The profiles will not be perfect because the Sapphire Pro is a CoreXY printer with a completely different rail system so the jerk and acceleration settings will be very different. You might want to just turn jerk and acceleration controls off in Cura for your initial prints. This will allow the printers firmware to set these values.
      I also did some looking around and found this profile on Thingiverse that might be helpful:

    Hi Dr. Vax. Why did you just skip over Printhead Settings,? Are they not important even though they may be wrong.? Are all print heads the same size and only the Gantry height matters? I am having a hard time with my new printer trying to do what you are doing and making it look so easy. I bought a Labists ET4. not the best I know, but it was easy to assemble, the quality is great for the money, and I printed their "Rocket " test print, which turned out really great, so I printed 4 of them in different colours. When I went to print my own Fusion 360 models, they were good, but with a few little flaws where the support touched the model, so I decided I could do better by adding some custom settings. I tried various printers, changing the names and obviously doing it wrong. I finished up with the Anet ET4, which looked exactly the same as the Labists ET4. I tried to copy a Start and End G-code and pick various other settings. That is when I lost track of everything and my printer started hammering on the bedplate or juddering on the belts and spewing filament off either side or corner. It has been a frustrating 8 days and I am in a bigger mess than ever. I know that 3D printing has a learning curve, but I am going backwards. I learnt how to use Fusion 360 to the point of making files with no program mistakes, so I can't be that dumb. It is now 11:15 PM so I am off to bed, but I will watch and study your video tomorrow and get back to you if I can't get it working properly, hoping you will help. Thanks for taking the time to do your videos. I really enjoy them and how they are presented. Bob.

    • @MakeWithTech

      Yes. Don't use cura for this. Cura USB support is very poor. What do the Anycubic folks recommend? If they recommend Cura make sure your are using the version they recommend. The newer versions of Cura have broken USB support for many printers.
