    Ya know, on paper, sure...5 draws looks boring. But if you're watching the live streams, Jerry has been making each game feel like playoff football. His analysis and genuine excitement create a suspenseful tension worthy of Hollywood. Seriously, if you're not on twitch watching, you're missing out!

      But, when it comes down to it 5 draws is the worst among:
      (4 draws, 1 decisive), (3 draws, 2 decisive), (2 draws, 3 decisive), (1 draw, 4 decisive) and (5 decisive).
      No escaping the nagging reality.

    No point in gunning for a win if there's no win. These guys are playing to win, not to "please the fans of decisive games," and when that's denied, they play to not-lose. Just because an attack was successfully defended doesn't mean you throw the game away.
    I think these draws are still super exciting, and this one was the sharpest game yet.

    If one of them wins one game, things are going to heat up since the player behind will be pressured to play for the win, taking more risks and going for more imbalances.

    It always amazes me to see the graph at the end of these world championship games. Playing such tough positions, where it's so incredibly easy to go wrong, and still it's near perfection (assuming perfect is 0 average centipawn loss) throughout. I've saved quite a few of my own "perfect" games (arbitrarily defined by me as games with no inaccuracies, mistakes, or blunders), and found that it's significantly easier to have a "perfect game" against weaker opponents. You play like 15 moves and they blunder and resign. What I've always been hoping for is a game of six zeroes, because that, to me, is truly a testament of skill. That both players can choose top, or nearly top engine moves for the entirety of the game, despite playing an opponent capable of that as well, is more impressive to me than a decisive victory.

    New to chess - why is at 21:23 the e2 square not safe for the black king? I don't see any pieces for white that could move there or insert a check afterwards aside from the rook, but then the black king could just move back to d3.

    New to chess, I'm really enjoying this coverage. Thank you. I hope you can respond or someone can comment on potential move 31. In the video at 24:29, much had been said about cutting off Carlsen's king retreat with white pawn to g4, this leaving the white knight exposed to capture. I wonder how it would play out with a Kf2 move protecting the knight or somehow repositioning the white rook to a6 (2 move) to cut the black retreat off further from f6. I know a lot can happen in two moves...

    at 22:02 after the king move, i'd move the white knight to D2, then the black king is almost perfectly fixed, if you then move your rook to the A or B and go down in ranks you put the king in a very very tough position, it'll be checks one after the other and hinestly hard to defend.. can you explore this idea? i think a skilled player could pull out a mate

  • @subboy1der
    @subboy1der 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Jerry thanks for the video. I think after king to B4 that I liked your bishop to D2 hypothetical since if the king doesn't move, knight to D5 is a nice double check. But yeah anyways fun to watch your video

    This championship has been so exciting so far. Yes drawn games are indeed exciting. A draw is just an end result, it is actually the gameplay that you should be excited about. TBH a drawn game usually means none of the players made any mistake - which is the exciting part. Watching someone blunder is no fun. Thank you Jerry for another great commentary.

    • @alexandereastwood1
      @alexandereastwood1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I look at the move at lichess and all I can say it's complicated, but it seems that if the king on C7 means a knight can take the bishop on e6 witch CHECK which has a slight impact on some lines so the move kinda loses time, maybe you could say it loses a quarter tempo, and well the king is a bit safer on C8 than c7 because that check is not there anymore also. But the lines are similar and seems to be a draw either way and well in a real match to do a move like c8=Q is a bit annoying to do if it gets taken next move for pretty much nothing, and well if you look at it with a computer and look at some a few moves you can start seeing the slight difference, and see why Bc3 is a better choice.

    Amazing game. Carlsen is on whole another level. You'd think that with a gambit thrown at carlsen, he would play safe but instead he took a walk with his king to the center of the board and drew. Amazing stuff. I dread the day I watch any world championship wihtout carlsen in it. I mean we all remember Vishy vs Gelfand, a total snooze fest. Gelfand ended up trapping his queen ón this top level chess, yuckkk... This championship rocks.And with jerry, love it. Draws? @@CrashNBurn71, yeah Caruana even said he spent a lot of time during his first big think if the game calculating stuff he knew didn't work just because it was fun line (I'm paraphrasing another TH-camr who saw the interviews so don't quote me on that lol). But, yeah, shorter matches would cut down on that type of stuff. Purists I'm sure would argue that you wouldn't get the best chess with shorter time controls; but I mean you're not getting the "best" chess anyway. Everyone would perform better with infinite time. The game of chess in its entirety would benefit from shorter championship matches.

      @@quazzydiscman good call, I agree. If these are the supposed best players, then a little pressure would benefit Chess.

      Chris Pfeiffer no keep it how it is. Our viewership is less important that qaulity thought out chess. You made it there you deserve your time.

    So far, this title match has been basically Anish Giri playing himself.

    Caruana's an outstanding player, but I foresee Carlsen retaining the belt... Caruana will crack first and Carlsen will be all over him. Carlsen already knows what's inside the box and is always looking outside the box, even over the board, just too dynamic for anyone short of a Fischer or Kasparov in their primes. (And i'm not sure either one of them would win.)

      Watching Grischuk and Svidler's commentary was also super fun. I think there have just genuinely been really interesting games.

      Yeah my thoughts exactly mr cook I keep saying that on twitch idk why people need a win. Every one of these games has been a knife edge dynamic thriller.

      Even the game where carlsen extended the game added to the drama minus the end that game was extremely exciting and imo the end was interesting because you could feel the humanity of the carlsen with his frustration over losing the advantage.
