Thanks for this. Great video showing not the money shot as so many hunting videos are but rather the reality of it. Shit happens; adapt and overcome like you did.
Maybe the shot didn't work out as planned, but you stuck with it and recovered the animal. That was good. The haters are gonna hate no matter if it drops on the spot or runs for miles, that's what they do.
Dude! So stoked for you bud! Nothing like your first bear. I know exactly what you mean by laying your hands on them for the first time. It's just different. Nothing but respect for the bruins. Congratulations!
Holy shit you're a brave man walking about with your javelin bipod like that. Love mine but it fell off once and took me about 6 hours to find it the day after never again. Good bear !
Great video guys! Love Idaho spring mountain bear hunting, last year was our first attempt and we came very close to being successful! Any recommendations on light weight spike camp tents??
Your first shot was too far forward and likely missed the majority of the vitals. It didn’t help that you were using a monometal bullet that doesn’t expand well and doesn’t create large wound channels. The lungs on a bear are located kind of where they are in a human body. As such, you aim at the middle of the middle of the torso and move slightly towards the shoulder. I’m glad you found him and harvested him. Spring bear is my favorite hunt of the year
The skull is in my window, the hide is a rug and the meat is fantastic. I use the ground meat for breakfast sausage, spaghetti, and more. The roasts are excellent for pulled sandwich options.
Paul was shooting a Tikka T3 Lite with a Vortex Viper Scope and hand loaded 168gr. bullets we here at the office affectionately call "Buck Nastys." As a note, this is a different rifle than the Roberts Paul originally intended to use and described in early gear list video.
First Lite Hunting Apparel rodger that once done you don’t forget lol as long as your not that guy that was on my team in Iraq and fast roped into a hot LZ and THOUGHT he had chambered a round and well pucker factor pin 0😁 thanks for honest videos 👍🏻
J McMath true you have to be with competent people who are competent with their weapons I’ve spent over 20 years with a live round in my chamber sleeping with it eating in dining halls in Iraq and Afghanistan and other unpleasantrys in that time I only saw 2 accidentally discharged weapons and they were new cherry recruits and in 47 + years of hunting have never flagged anyone with my weapon like rule # 1 don’t point your gun at anything you don’t want to destroy my thought is if a hunter has to wait to chamber a round before shooting as some of these ex Minnesota big time hunters do it makes liberals want to push maybe we should not let anyone chamber a round until ready to shoot, I know sounds crazy but liberals are crazy and that gives them ammunition. If you fall you hold on to your weapon hunter cradle style and know where your muzzle is at all times thanks for the concern though
Harvested a chocolate last week with my Kimber in 6.5 creedmoor, w/Nosler 142 gr Accubond LR, Bear went 30 yards.. shot placement is the key for quick kill.
Love that he brought his dog with him. That dog is well trained and gorgeous. Congrats on the bear!
Boone is sort of a supermodel lab. Thanks for the kind words.

Great hunt, Paul!! Huge congrats.
Thanks, y'all!

Thanks, Josh.
Great hunt guys. He got the job done and that’s what matters. Great bear! Beautiful color!
"click" is a very humbling sound we've all heard at some time or another.
Too true!
When the flinching is on camera tho..very honest not to cut that out
Lol it’s happened to me well Bird hunt very annoying but funny
I love my uncompahgre puffy! Thanks for making great gear! Please make more videos, I always get excited when a new one comes out!
Coming right up, Drew. Glad the puffy is working well for you.
You did it, showed us the bad parts, the good parts and that's what real hunting is about.
Awesome, way to stick with it! Great job showing the real stuff that happens because more often than not things don't go perfectly.
Appreciate the transparancy in posting this hunt. Many mistakes and hopefully some good lessons.
All of which contribute to the memories that last a lifetime.
@@FirstLiteHuntingApparel very true.
Awesome video! Beautiful country and great bear! Makes it so much sweeter with that touch of adversity! Congrats!
Thanks for the kind words!
Congrats man! Bear are a lot tougher than people give them credit for. Way to stick it out.
Great story! Thanks for sharing!

Stick Slingers yeah was not sure just saying the frank is were I hunt 👍🏻
Love the channel...any chance yall could help a first time out with how to start planning a hunt like this. Its daunting
How you do all that and not loose your sun glasses i drop 2 are 3 pair a year

Awesome bear, congratulations!!
This is great! Which part of Idaho?

I’m glad you found him and harvested him. Spring bear is my favorite hunt of the year
Check out the rifle movement when that trigger broke on an empty chamber. I'm working hard to eliminate that with lotsa practice and dry fire
Sow??
What have you done with the skin and how was the meat?
The skull is in my window, the hide is a rug and the meat is fantastic. I use the ground meat for breakfast sausage, spaghetti, and more. The roasts are excellent for pulled sandwich options.
Which quarter zip is that you’re wearing? My polartec from cabelas is worn out and I need a replacement. Great hunt👍
=That there is our Klamath Quarter Zip! You can pick one up at www.firstlite.com/products/mens-klamath-quarter-zip
What gun did you use to kill the bear?
.308 with 168 grain load
Kudos for not taking the risky shot at the end of day one
It is never easy to make those difficult calls, but it is nice to be rewarded for them at the end of a hard-earned hunt.
What part of Idaho?
No tell'um drainage of the lost fork (wink).
Must have been hell packing him out seemed pretty steep. Congrats man
What is it with you First Lite guys and these mustaches???
Red beard gang!!
Good stuff
What rifle and ammo you used, please?

Had that empty chamber happen once in 1974 never happened again I chamber as soon as I leave the truck no harm no foul 👍🏻
We all have to learn somehow...
First Lite Hunting Apparel rodger that once done you don’t forget lol as long as your not that guy that was on my team in Iraq and fast roped into a hot LZ and THOUGHT he had chambered a round and well pucker factor pin 0😁 thanks for honest videos 👍🏻
Be careful, it’s all calculated risk. Safeties fail and friends have killed best buds because they fell/tripped hiking chambered.

SheerWill Survival Your lack of punctuation makes what you wrote really hard to understand.
Call that bear swiss cheese with all those holes.
Actual hunting! Not baiting and ambushing. I admire that.
Ghaz Man all hunting is actual hunting man. He also could have used hounds and had more time to judge and size the bear and take a better first shot
@@beardoggin8963 I disagree. Hiding in the tree around a bait barrel is just camping and ambushing. But to each their own.
Ghaz Man all hunters need to support one another or there won’t be hunting of any sort. Even if it is the kind you approve of.
@@beardoggin8963 Just because I don't approve of it, doesn't mean I seek to deny anyone to legally do it. Like I said, to each their own.
Ghaz Man animals in the wild hunt by ambush y can’t people
the arse on that hunter - i dig.
Real bear hunting
9.3x62 wouldn't leave him a chance...
Yuriy S. You almost never see that in the States

@First Lite, you guys need to kill some wolves
Next time learn how to shoot! Before you go hunting o before you go on TH-cam
