This was one of the most helpful tips I've learned from your tutorials: shadows are not grey but rather a darker version of the shadowed area. HUGE! Many thanks...that tip and details on creating 3D foliage have enhanced my watercolour journey!
Dear paul, no need any comments. I don't have any idea how I can convey my sense of gratitude to you. I really wish one day I could join in your field trip class.
So lovely. Feels like you could walk down the path on a beautiful Sunday morning. Have a wonderful trip. I can’t wait to see photos of the trip and the works of the class. Safe travels!!!
Sooo Beautiful Paul, it looks real. Thankyou for the shadow tips. Now I am going to pay more attention to them , to see their colors. Great tip that they are not black. ! Maybe that's the mistake we make. And then it looks harsh. 😐 Great layering with different colors to give effect of separation and height. And the dappled light effect. 👌👌🙏🙏 You reach us so much in such a short time. Wish your videos were longer. As they leave us wishing for more. ;) Have a wonderful cruise and well deserved holiday. We will miss your tutorials, but can watch the previous ones to make up till you get back. Take care 💗
It's amazing once again! 🎉 Loved this and all you shared ... shadows, layering, pastel pencils ... and it's lovely how you create a relaxing atmosphere with your music 🎶!!! Have a wonderful holiday and please share some of the great photos! A California Gramma ❤
Danke Paul für das schöne Video. Ich habe wieder viel gelernt dabei und freue mich, es zu malen. Ich wünsche dir und Margot eine wundervolle Reise. Geniesst eure Ferien. Herzliche Grüsse Christa
Thank you Paul. Another excellent video for us ‘watercolor hopefuls’. Love the use of different media, showing there are no hard and fast rules or limitations to making a quality piece of art. That’s very useful to know. Enjoy your travels and be safe.
I look forward to trying this one because the shadows seem extra interesting. So appreciate your lessons! Hoping you have a marvelous time away! I'm going to have to put off doing this one because of incoming guests this weekend, so I'll make good use of 2 weeks "off." Oh! Thank you for introducing the technical terms too... like "blobby"😂
Thank you Paul I love this one. I love churches so this was right up my street. Also love the technique you have of dappling the shadows. I always wondered how that was done so I'm going to have to give that a go. This whole painting is lovely. It's so bright and beautiful. Enjoy your 3 weeks away Paul. We all understand you have to get away from it every now and then. ENJOY. Hope you have a great time. Come back safe and we will all look forward to hearing about your travels and your inspirations for new paintings when you come back. By the way. Have you ever thought about doing another book to show us special effects like dappling. And shadows and stuff like that. Etc. I bought your last one. I loved it. Brilliant! Thank you. God bless Paul and Margot. Susan ❤❤❤
Brilliant Paul, I am working on shadows in pastel. This is so helpful. I love the way you lifted the colors out of the dark wash in the shadows. I’m going to try this one. Enjoy your cruise and holiday. Thank you for sharing this knowledge.
Thanks, Paul, great tutorial. I absolutely must tell you how great it is to be able to see both the painting AND the palette at the same time and observe the wetness and strength of tones you are using: in fact, although I also appreciate the near permanent thumbnail of the photo at the bottom right, for me, it's more instructive to near continuously see your palette. Please, continue to do this ! (And can I use this opportunity to ask, no, BEG you to do a tutorial solely on the techniques of creating reflections in water: I'm trying to paint the Provence Scene you posted 3 years ago and the reflections in the river are killing me! - water coursing down the paper - paint too dry - paint too wet - lifting out not really working ... ) Have a great Rhone trip and a great cycling hol !
Excellent Video as always Paul. Loved practicing the dappled light. Continue to work at getting the wonderful textures and color mixes you get on your trees. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this tutorial on dappled light - funny we were on vacation and what attracted me to paint an old boathouse on the lake was the dappled patterns on the boathouse from the trees! Also the reflection of the colors from the kayaks in the water!! I always learn so much listening to you explain things and reinforce what have learned from you before. Enjoy your trips and enjoy the moments with friends!! :0)
I was plein air painting yesterday and talking to a friend about struggling with shadows. Now, you've provided me with a way to practice my shadows. Thanks. I'll be sharing with my friend. I hope you have a great vacation, and look forward to hearing about it.
Watercolor Wednesday , better than Fridays in my opinion ! 😊 This turned out so beautiful Paul , the trees are so gorgeous , and the light on the church is brilliant ! I can’t wait to get started! Also, your music selection is so pleasant in my ear buds , it really gets me in the flow state! Thank you Paul , Blessings to you and Margot ! have fun on your adventures , I can’t wait to see what you bring back to the group !!
Great thanks Paul, pleased to see you have a nice sunny day there, here in andulucia its been 40 some days, very challenging when ime trying to paint, enjoy your trips, look forward to the tutorials when you get back.
Thank you Paul this is a great tutorial. I I look forward to trying this. Thank you so much again for the invaluable tips and explaining throughout the video of all the things that seem trivial but adds a lot of depth and difference.
Just a gorgeous painting Paul! I love all your church paintings because they inspire me so much. When you were painting the dapples on the road, I was thinking hey, I could do that with white gouache on my sea scapes. Have a wonderful time on your cruise and cycling vacations you two. Blessings to you!💗Rita
I always like the way you paint your trees and foliage. Also that little tip for creating light spots in the dappled shadow is very useful. Have a good two weeks.
So enjoyed watching the paper come alive. A very beautiful tutorial Paul with many helpful tips. Enjoy your painting retreat and then the getaway with friends
Thank you so much Paul for this great painting. Hope you will have a wonderful trip next week. I love your greens and the shape of the trees - how you painted them. The shadows and the shapes are authentic looking and your rule of 'letting the paint work by itself' is so inpiring. Thank you once more.
What a beautiful tutorial this week. Thank you so much Paul. And what a great tip for adding in dappled light bu rubbing out some of the dry paint. I do this on water but never thought about it for shadows and dappled light. I love your tutorials so much. I learn so much from them. Thank you 😊
Wow! You are truly a master watercolorist! Thoroughly enjoyed watching and learning your process. Ive only been painting for 4 years, and now Im trying to learn shadows and light. I hope one day to be able to paint well enough to try one of your tutorials. Wishing you all the best from across the pond.
Lovely! Another beautiful cycling trip with the friends. Have fun and wonderful weather! Looking forward to seeing some new spots and landscape photos.
