I worked in a Deep Rock gas station on US-66 in Oklahoma City in 1966 and 67. I-40 was under construction but not yet open any further west. The station was 24/7 until 1967. We pumped gas, washed windshields and even vacuumed out customers cars on request. There was a hoist and a tire changing machine. Gas was $0.25.9 except during gas wars.
@johngaither9263 go check out my website www.route66roadrelics.com almost 85% of Route 66 is still there lots of stuff to. See but often names of roads ect have changed
You missed so many in New Mexico, most of which are still open, most notably the Blue Swallow motel in Tucumcari and 2 in Santa Rosa that are also still open for business, the La Loma and the La Mesa. Still a very interesting video.
you can check out our other videos about those motel i was doing the closed motels for this video thanks for watching th-cam.com/video/65HW3-rTvXI/w-d-xo.html

Good memories!
Great stuff Mike!!
Thanks
I love the history facts and the black and white! Nice!
thanks Linda
The Eisenhower Administration was responsible for getting our U.S. highways built. But you did a great job keeping Rt. 66 nostalgia alive 👍❤️🇺🇸
@@BrianKay-i9m thanks
In May I have to make a run from OK to CA for my daughter’s wedding. Plan has been to take the Electra Glide, think I’m gonna run 66.
Thanks!
Sounds like a great trip, good luck with the wedding!
There's not really much left to run. All the highway signs are gone except for paint on the road and what is left is in bad repair.
