New Subscriber. Thank you for the great review of the G890. Questions: I have tinted film on y rear window. Is it safe to attach the Rear Camera on the window tint film? Suggestions? Also you said the GPS is a “breakout box”. Is it installed on top of the dash like most GPS sensors or can it be hidden out of sight (not in satellite view)?
Hi Maroot and welcome to the channel! Ah regarding window tint, yes I have installed cameras directly onto to it but just remember window tint does affect the camera's visibility, it will be decreased similar to wearing sunglasses at night except you are putting sunglasses onto the rear camera, will probably be ok for day but will be extra dark at night. If you have tint I would recommend for the installer to place the camera on the outside for the best picture quality (typically by the rear license plate area). Here is my install video showing both inside and outside installation th-cam.com/video/44WXN8MI66o/w-d-xo.html Regarding the GPS antenna, correct, it must have a direct view of the GPS satellites, so on most mirror dash cams I place it on a corner of the dash (you can actually see it in the driving video part of my reviews) On the G890, I attached the breakout box (which also contains the GPS antenna) to my windshield, high up out of sight. Great video again, I have two questions if you could answer I would greatly appreciate it. First, is there an option to watch two cameras or is it only 1 and 3? Second, are the front and back cameras both night vision or is it just the back one?

Bought it through your link. Thanks for the discount. The Hardwire Kit that comes with this has an additional 3A fuse to each wire and I assume 15A at the ends. Question: Can I use the Fuse Tap the same way as in your other videos?

Great videos. In a triple-cam like this can you have 2 rear cameras instead of one inside? I would like one cam to see behind whilst driving and the other aimed directly down at the tow hitch.
Thank you scoro! Ah yes the cameras can be placed in different locations (in some cases requiring the cables to be extended). A viewer for example does rock crawling so he placed one underneath his Jeep to see how much clearance he has when rock crawling. Cheers!

A suggestion for future reviews. Please tell us if the (rear) camera view can be flipped vertically and/or horizontally. There are times where the camera needs to be mounted "upside down".

Thanks Amrti! Ah regarding adding a 3 camera front outside camera, no you won't be able since the there are only inputs for a cabin and rear camera, the front camera is built in. I would suggest the G700 th-cam.com/video/zEvk-2z_zQY/w-d-xo.html or G880 th-cam.com/video/JJKbUu_egiE/w-d-xo.html but those are hard to get now since they been discontinued. I have the G890 mirror and it has been great except for having an issue with the brightness staying at high brightness. I have talked to support about this and tried new firmware and bootloader, but sometimes my mirror will be very dark and I have to increase brightness manually.

I purchased my unit a few months ago and your firmware version is the same as the new one Wolfbox sent me, so maybe the new units come with it. My bootloader does seem to be a higher version though.

I just took a look at their site, looks like they are now in version 230627 man I really wish they would specify what changed in each revision (but then again this is an issue I see across the industry). Hi Hemu! The GPS on dash cams will log the speed of your car and the coordinates of the location recorded at (which can be helpful as evidence in the event of a car accident). Can you use it just a regular mirror or is it only a camera display? Also, I’m don’t have a need for the GPS, do I need to install it and if not then can I get the compass and MPH graphic off of the display? Lastly, if I don’t install the GPS, how does the cigarette lighter power get installed?

Hi Jonny! Correct, it can be used as a regular mirror if you do not want to use it as an LCD mirror dash cam. Regarding GPS, nope the GPS antenna is integrated into the power supply so it can't be separated from it. Cheers!

Swapping dash cam components such as a different camera is sometimes is possible BUT I usually don't recommend it unless you don't mind potentially voiding warranty (due to mixing components/brands). We also don't know the long term aspects (both operational and safety) of mixing components/brands. There are so many mirror dash cams. Here what I’m looking for first secure I want to be alerted if somebody is looking into my truck that I get an alert on my iPhone. 2nd is I want a camera that is front rear and possibly inside of the truck . So which one would you choose

Your video just made me pull the trigger. Was border line from getting the wolfbox that does 4k front and 2.5k rear. Gonna get this one instead since it basically costs 15 dollars more than the 4k/2.5k version if you factor in the hardwire kit.

If so what are the measurements between the screw holes? I'm trying to see if I can find a mounting back plate for this dash cam so that I could do a cleaner looking install. @edgararcega3046 Hi Edgar! Nope, unfortunately the G890 does not have screw holes in the back so a direct fit kit will not work without physically modifying the dash cam. Great videoes! I ve been having a difficult time to find out if Wolf Box will let me run 2 small cameras on either side of our box truck. It would be so helpful, but I dont think the cabin cam would be ok in the outdoor elements. Any one know a back up cam, that lets you h=run 2 side cams?

@AlexAutoFun, by any chance, you might know. My dash cam is hardwired, installed 2 months ago. It was good for almost 2 months but started few weeks ago not recording when I turn off the car and it shuts off and not recording. But when I turn back on the car it's perfectly fine recording. The problem is when the car is off, it shuts off and not recording while the car is unoccupied.

When correctly hardwired the dash cam will enter park mode (if enabled in the dash cam's setting, remember the G890 has several types of parking monitor modes) when the car is off. I would have the installer check all the connections (ACC, BATT & GND) to confirm that they connected to the correct locations for ACC and BATT (I seen cases where the dash cam stays on constantly if ACC and BATT are reversed or connected to the incorrect locations that does not provide power at the correct time for both ACC and BATT and cases where a connection has come loose) And if your installer is not able to find the issue I would also recommend contacting for Wolfbox tech support, they may be able to walk you thru some troubleshooting steps. Alex: Do you have any comments about mirror dash cams and longevity? I have 2 installed (thanks to your awesome videos) and live in AZ. Occasionally, I would see glitches where it would lose power and I have to restart it.
Hi Loc! Great question, so far mirror dash cams seem to last as long as their normal dash cam counter parts (stick style dash cams). However mirror dash cams generate a lot more heat due to their large screen. My experience with using them in a hot environment is here in California where we see sometimes see triple digit temperature numbers however I imagine Arizona may be a hotter state. So what I recommend for those cases where the dash cam is used in extreme heat is to run the dash cam at a maximum of 2.5K instead of 4K as 4K generates even more heat and also to pick a dash cam with a capacitor instead of a li-ion battery (both of these recommendations are also true for normal non-mirror dash cams) Here are two examples of dash cams that failed due to battery going bad th-cam.com/video/HW8jqbl_ayU/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/GQZne5fsWw0/w-d-xo.html Cheers!

I got a Wolfbox recently, but I do have few problems I did not see coming. First of all it feel really dark on any normal day. If anyone has any tips how to fix it, please let me know. Also for those over 40 and starting to lose your sight to close object, please understand the screen is pretty close to your face and image won't be clear.. Can't wear my reading classes while driving so I now have a dark and blurry rear mirror... :(
Hi Janne! Oh wow, while I love mirror dash cams I do think they are not for everyone. The brightness issue seems to be related to mirror glare, unfortunately all mirror dash cams are plagued by this (is just part of the nature of a screen also being used as a mirror when the LCD panel is off). However here is what I found works good to reduce it. 1st is window tint (sides windows only not on the rear if camera is mounted inside the car). 2nd I aim my mirror dash cam down towards the rear seats so I don't get the reflection of the bright outside (this assumes your are using the dash cam with the screen on) 3rd is that some mirror dash cams do come with glare reducers like this one th-cam.com/video/ZUUZIcKD_mg/w-d-xo.html or this one th-cam.com/video/dVcfFVLCXbY/w-d-xo.html So far there are no universal ones since most of mirror dash cams have custom shapes and sizes. However I had other viewers mentions they cut large screen glare reducers for tablets down to shape for those cases. Cheers!

How well does this camera perform at night in very low light like when you are out in the country away from city lights
Hi Bronco! You can see how the well the dash cam performs at night during the test drive portion of the review. Regarding how it performs if there is no light, the camera view will degrade the less light there is eventually showing almost pitch black if traveling down a pitch black highway (same as a normal rear view mirror in the darkness). Hi Bronco! I typically recommend not to mix dash cam components to avoid functionality issues or warranty issues. That being said, I had viewers before in the past swap out cameras or extend the cables to place them in unusual places (one of my viewers does rock crawling so he placed his underneath his Jeep to check for clearance. Hi, I bought a more expensive /quality Viofo 4K cam. I later realized I need an always on Mirror type (to match other car) for an extended Pop-up back camera . I noticed the night view quality is not the best with the one your reviewing.What's your opinion on the camera quality?
Hi Virtual! Ah yes unfortunately all mirror dash cams are limited as far as the video quality from the rear camera due to the limitations of current technology (image sensor, ISP, etc) and also the bandwidth feed (rear cameras are limited by AHD which only supports a maximum of FHD). This is one of the reasons I think mirror dash cams are not for everyone. What I recommend is a setup like what you are planning (two independent dash cam setups and in some cases where budget allows 3 independent dash cams setups for redundancy). It could be a mirror dash cam complimented by a normal dash cam or 2 dual normal dash cams. I am considering buying a mirror dashcam and have been going through a lot of your videos. I absolutely love how detailed your videos are. I was thinking of going with the G880, considering that it has all the cameras detached, but as it has been discontinued, I would want to buy the latest one and hence stumbled upon the G890. I would really appreciate it if you could help me with my query.
My car has a rear parking camera but does not have a front parking camera and was thinking of using the rear camera of the G890 at the front on the outside as it is waterproof. I would like to use the cabin camera as a rear dashcam instead. Would it be possible to somehow extend the cable for it to reach the back of the car to power the cabin camera being used as a rear camera?
Hi Kunal! Ah remember while the cabin camera can potentially be placed in a different places in the inside of the car, the cabin camera is not waterproof so it cannot be placed outside the vehicle. Cheers!

Could you configure this set up so that the additional cabin camera was configured to be the back up cam and mounted inside the vehicle, while the waterproof back up camera is mounted out front on like a bumper to view tire placement for off roading?

Hi Alex! Great video. I've seeing your other videos since I'm looking to get a dashcam. I have a couple doubts regarding that my car has light smoke window tint on the rear windshield. If I'd like to have the camera installed inside the car (no need to have it outside since my Hyundai Accent 2018 Sedan has already has a reverse camera from fabric over the license plate), would the video quality still be good? Ah regarding window tint, it will work thru it to a certain extent (depending on the window tint percentage) but it will be similar to wearing sun glasses at night (you may be able to drive but it will be harder to see and possible more dangerous). Window tint has the same effect on dash cam cameras. And yes you can turn off the LCD panel if you want to use it as a regular mirror (however I use mine with the panel on all the time, I can't go back to a regular mirror after experiencing an LCD mirror) Cheers!

So, in your experience, what would you say about measuring the distance and speed/acceleration of the cars behind you viewing with the rear dash cam thru the LCD panel? If you compare it with the regular reflect viewing (regular mirror or LCD panel off)? Could you still measure the other cars kinda the same or better or what would you say?
To explain myself better... If the rear camera has a 140° angle view (like a 14mm lens), it means that it's focal distance would make the cars/trucks that are further behind to look small and far, and they would actually be bigger and closer than what they may look like on the dash cam. And the focal distance of regular reflect viewing would be like a 50mm lens? More accurate to how our eyes actually see in distance and sizes, letting us to measure more accurate the distance, speed/acceleration and sizes of the cars/trucks behind us.
So, could you please tell me more about your experience on how you found better the experience of having always the LCD panel on with rear camera than regular reflect (regular mirror or LCD panel off), taking this factor in count? Thanks a lot!
You're welcome! Ah yes mirror dash cams will change the perspective of objects due to their wide angle nature vs the narrow view provided by a normal mirror. If the perspective change bothers you, the dash cam can be used with the LCD panel off like a normal mirror or you can use one of this one th-cam.com/video/vaJMaav7FbU/w-d-xo.html which is the only one in the market currently that allows you to adjust between the wider and narrow view with it's zoom function. Ah good question, the mirror dash will work for left hand or right hand drive (Mirror dash cams manufacturers typically do not make a different one for LHD or RHD, the camera is always on the left side of the mirror). But as mention earlier the angle change is very little (if you place ur phone with the camera on the left and then place it with the camera on the right on top of ur existing mirror you can get an idea of how little the view changes since car mirrors are typically less than 12" which is a very small distance to move a camera and see large results on angle) Cheers!

What does dream or mess up your car battery?

Unfortunately the G890 does not have screw holes in the back, so a direct mount conversion kit will not work without modification (I had some viewers open their dash cams and drill holes to be able to install the direct mount kit) which as you can imagine is probably not ideal (but I may make a video on that custom mod). With this mirror, can you not adjust the parking lines by dragging them? Does it matter?
I am not entirely clear about the parking line adjustments. Is this something you do once for your car: set and forget? Or are they adjusted depending on the specific parking situation?
Please consider doing a video to show how to adjust parking lines and what they actually do for you. In other words, I'd like to see a parking video where you park before and after adjusting the guidelines so that I can really understand the advantage.
Hi Tayler! Correct, the parking lines can be adjusted by the buttons on the screen (not by dragging them on the screen, seems every dash cam has it's variation on how they are adjusted including some where they are non-adjustable). And yes once you set them you can forget about them (only requiring readjustment if the rear camera is moved which would affect the reversing angle shown). The idea is that you would adjust them to the placement where you would feel comfortable when parking as far as distance form the edges and from the car behind you. Some people like them really tight where the edge of the lines represent the actual point of impact and some people like to leave room for error (basically a buffer) where the lines are close to impact but with room to spare in case the driver misjudges something. I also seen cases where people adjust them to use the colors, so red area is placed where indicates you hit something, yellow area where you are close and the green area where you have plenty of space (again here how much of each of the color sections actually represents a distance varies depending on how the installer chooses to adjust them or how the customer request for them to adjusted). So it seems to be more a personal preference on where you want to have to lines fall. Now as far as using them some people don't care for them, and some people really like them (I personally don't use them), Cheers!

Hola Mar! Estos antireflejantes son similares si no es que son iguales, no hay gran diferencia en ellos mas que el tamano y forma de como estan cortados para que queden bien en el espejo. Si fuera tu, lo probaria por un tiempo para ver si te gusta, el costo es muy bajo y si no te gusta lo puedes quitar, aunque yo no los utilizo se que tengo otros subcritores que si les a ayudado. Hi Ap! It could be done but it would require the installer to extend the cable for the cabin camera and for it to be installed inside of the vehicle as it is not waterproof. Like most of them all use the same type of input that goes into the dash cam itself and I love the 890 rear camera quality that’s why I asked. Ah yes, swapping dash cam components such as a different camera is sometimes is possible BUT I usually don't recommend it unless you don't mind potentially voiding warranty (due to mixing components/brands). We also don't know the long term aspects (both operational and safety) of mixing components/brands. There is also the issue of which components will actually appear to work at first but fail later due to mixing since sometimes small differences between the products while looking the same from the outside are important (I had a viewer fry his new rear camera because the old wiring connections looked same as his prior rear dash cam) I think the G840H would be the best choice if you need Wi-Fi or the T10 is budget is a concern.
