Canada was also involved. It was the "Quebec Agreement" signed in Quebec City that pooled the US, UK and Canada to develop nuclear energy and nuclear weapons. After WW2 the US pulled out of that agreement and didn't want to share data between these countries anymore.

Personal spy plane use that is hilariously nasty: turrets. two engines, extra fuel tanks, self-sealing fuels and the rest just turrets.... and as turrets don't count as weapons you can still have them fly over neutral/non war countries.

Important issue for "Destroyers for Bases" The destroyer you get is the DD1 hulled Clemson class. What you can and should do is before the offer comes get american license production. The AI will allow you the clemson licence. Once you get the licence you can modify it ONCE and only ONCE. Remember, you can modify it once. You can then modify the crappy clemson design into a really good DD1 hull. You can put 1940 depth charges, radar, sonar and AA on the clemson, refit them and then deploy them as HK (hunter killer) destroyers all at a very low cost, since you got the refit spirit and the refit focus completed by then. These refiited clemsons should have about 36 sub spotting and enough depth charges to two shot any sub they find. Do note, if you don't accept the US doesn't get to keep them.

i personaly think, that the brittish version of the Manhattan Project should be named "The Worcestershire Project". Maybe the germans went for dispersed industry, so the nukes made less of an impact, while Japan went for concentrated, so nuking them royaly fudged them over?

Even in MP, you build research facilities, you get raided, progress is lost or you manage to defend it and then you completly destroy your enemy... That was the case in real life. Norwegians sabotaged heavy water factories and slowed german research.
