I'm thinking about replacing my 12 fireblade for that S1000r. Ever since I bought my WR250r I'm getting spoiled by the upright seating position comfort for around town cruises. It would be cool to have the performance and weight of a SS with a more relaxed riding position. It's between the S1000r and the Aprilia Tuono.
+CycleCruza The S1000R is 10times more comfortable than the Tuono and fireblade and I know you like riding, so get the S1000R!! I wasn't supposed to get a new bike but after reviews like this by +BaronVonGrumble I just had to get it.
Idk why everyone says its ugly... I thinks its sexy and same with the RR. I used to hate the RR thank I began to like it but I saw this and it took no time for me to say sexy. Its like a Glock... Ugly at first and compared to a 1911 but over time you warm up to it.
Great review mate, I lived with one of the first S1000RR bikes in Spain for 5 months. It only had the quickshifter as an option, no ABS or any of the traction control safety nets. I rode it through winter and spring without any problems whatsoever. It was missile fast and very very efficient at everything. I wish I had not returned that bike, that was a keeper. My S1000R should be road registered next week, I can´t wait to wake the neighbourhood again.
i wouldn't worry about the wind blast ,after the first run on my triple i found my self wondering if i could cope with the wind blast , it soon becomes a none event as you get used to it
i test drove this today and it was fantastic. I didn't expect to like it but it was sooo smooth. I drove it back to back with the xr Good review and spot on. But just to reiterate it is fantastically smooth and surprising.
You'll get used to the naked-ness if you do go for it. I went from a CBR400RR to a SV650N- I find it less tiring on the upper body in general, since you've got that upright riding position, and the wind is supporting you a bit as well. I also acts as a natural balancer for me too; you're less likley to sit at three figure speeds when it's a bit more uncomfortable. The neck thing- you'll get a sore neck for a week or so, and then after that you'll be fine.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who reacted like that at the first twist of the throttle lol :P I think you're right about its riding position, maybe because you're upright it feels so immense! Such a great bike, look forward to seeing if you end up picking one up Baron :)
I like the look of this and wouldn't mind a play as my Tuono V4 made me swear too...but....BUT...it's an inline (yawn) 4 and I'm addicted to my V4 growwwwl. (hi stranger by the way, track day this year?) :-) x
I agree with you totally I think the wind issue is paramount, looks are great from the side but looks like Russel Howard on antidepressants from the front but I still soooo want one.
Only just found your channel recently and love it, I live near Barnstormer and 9 years later they are still digging the road up to try and stop it flooding 😂😂😂
Watch 1 of your vlogs 1 year ago. Bought zx6r the same day whilst drunk on ebay. 4 weeks later licence passed. 6 weeks later exchanged for cbr1000 rr4. Thanks for improving my life & seriously pissing of my wife!!
Did you try it with the std screen? The airflow may be lower hitting your chest and less direct on the head area, I didn't find it too bad with the lower screen. I have also put a deposit down based on an excellent test ride, imo it's better than my old s1krr
went and testrode this bike today, i ride an MT-07. The power is undescribeable, the brakes are insane, the sound is amazing. My gripe was with the seating position, I felt like i was too forward leaned over, and felt discomfort on my wrist, and yes the pegs are abit high imo. It's a dreambike, and if those two "faults" (maybe you just have to get used to it) were fixed.. it would be hard not to buy it.. very hard.
Hey Baron: I see you were one of the lucky 4 winners to get a new Super Duke to test for a while...Congratulations! I hope you end up being THE lucky ONE at the end!! You deserve it. Thanks for entertaining all of us with your rides and musings!
I've got a question for ya, what are those "squiggly" or back and forth white lines on the roadway for? I'm from the States and I have never seen those here.
BVG - test rode a ‘17 S1000R on the Old Pacific Hwy (a well known twisty road just north of Sydney), wound the throttle on and laughed out loud in my helmet and thought “The Baron was right, this is a gizz machine”. Bought it on the spot, on a day where I test rode Speed Triple, GSXS 1000 and some other things. All great bikes, but not as gizzy. Thanks for the video.
Mate that was the best motorcycle test video ive ever seen, fair play to you.. you give people exactly what they want.. You should ask MCN for a job.. Bike looks and sounds awsome, got a test ride booked for saterday at barns.
Check out RoyalJordanian's videos, he did a tour around Europe with his. Several videos of the tour and one talking about preparing for it when it comes to gear and bike.
Christ! Who else are going to do a S1000R review? Don't get me wrong I love the bike, and this is one of the better ones, just seen quite a few of these recently.
Bloody GREAT video mate!!! I just have one question for you tho.... I have got an MT07 at the moment but when going to a 1000cc bike next I was looking at the MT10. But I have also been looking at these! Have u managed to get on an MT10 yet? If so is there a big difference between the two? Ive been going on my mates GSXR 1000 and feel like I want a bit more ooomf now lol...Thank you 👍😀
I love wind blast, you can let it take your weight and rest on it. Plus you get a more exiting sense of speed from it that you don't get from full super sports. I love my Aprilia Tuono V4R, as it has all the handling and fun of the RSV but I can ride it all day without needing spine realignment from a chiropractor. Once you get used to wind blast, you miss it when it's not there (well I do)
After the Ducati review i'd of put money on you going for the 899 Panigale. S1000R looks nice though. Just swapping my CBR for a Naked....hope the neck strain is worth it!
Amazing bike I think this would be one of the few bikes I would get rid of the street triple for sounds and looks amazing. Love the heated grips are those stock or an add on?
Yep the wind blast over 120 is a bit tiring. I had an R1 streetfighter that was great for back roads but got tiring on the freeway. So much fun having wide bars on a proper sports bike though. Trust me!
The wind will not be much of a problem, you will get use to it and even start enjoying it. The naked feel of speed is very good and as you say so much more fun under the speed limit. But as you know its just the cost of looking after the BMW's, but there service is good.
Great review baron, another fan from the states here. Maybe if that shield is removed the air will spread over your chest instead of all being directed on your head/neck? Haven't sat on one myself so I'm glad to get your perspective on this bike. It seems like a magnificent value for BMW nontheless.
Having had a tricked Tuono twin - I can say you get used to tucking in, but you still try and go as fast as a SS !. Good honest review Baron. Lets crowd source the Barons next bike ;)
Yes you can survive on the motorway with it, even the miles you do. You get used to the wind blast reasonably quickly. Have you thought of trying the Tuono? It's be interesting to get your comparison...
Hello, informative video. I own the K1300R and wondering how these bike compare? What mic are you using in this video please? I have a GoPro and want to get a tie mic in my helmet but tried out a couple of tie mics from Maplins and found the audio quality poor because of background noise/interference.
Wind protection is nice, but I don't think BMW had us 6' 4" people in mind. How wide are those MX bars anyways when your slicing through thick traffic? I think I'd want to try a city demo ride before purchase.
Another good vid, looks like you had a good time. My only gripe is that this was a deal or no deal test ride and your only real doubt was the wind blast on the motorway. Stop me if I'm wrong but if you knew you were going to test a naked bike, you must have realised all naked bike riders suffer from wind blast at higher speeds. Those who say they don't are either lying or are used to it. For me its not a problem IF I'm sticking to the NSL. ;-)
Maybe the aerodynamic profile of your shoei isn't suited for a naked, upright bike. I saw in reviews about the Arai Defiant being suited to an upright riding position, maybe you can give it a shot, Baron.
I ride a Tuono 1000R and you do get used to the wind, but I'm planning to get a taller windscreen mainly for some of the colder days I commute. Do you think the windscreen extender on your Suzuki would help?
Baron you and RJ are taking over the world with s1000r's! (forming an alliance maybe?) neck muscles will grow and wind blast you'll get used to, by the sounds of things it's a great bike with all the power you need! :)
I think RJ noted the turn radius isn't that great but then he is comparing against the more motard-like Nuda. I agree about the plastic bits and it's not the greatest looking bike from the front.
My S1000R became another beast once I did the decat. There's not much that will keep up with it to 200. But topping out at 265 is a bummer when you're running away from the supersports and you run out of legs.
"It's a jizz machine, it's a jizz machine we've found it!"
2:30 lol
I've always found the naked look of a bike to be quite appealing. There's something beautiful about the exposed mechanical aspects of the bike.
And they're comfy as hell too!
Baron said it. Its got its t*ts out.
One of the reasons I loved the FZ-07 (MT-07 outside the US) is because it's naked. Plus imo it's one of Yamaha's best performing bikes ever created.
Didn't expect to see you here :D
But it' totally up to you which bike you ride, I am still going to stick with you!
Best wishes from Germany
+CycleCruza Don't! You'll be sorry!
Edslittleworld I'm keeping the blade!
+CycleCruza I got off a Fireblade for the S1000R. Best thing i ever did.
+CycleCruza The S1000R is 10times more comfortable than the Tuono and fireblade and I know you like riding, so get the S1000R!! I wasn't supposed to get a new bike but after reviews like this by +BaronVonGrumble I just had to get it.

Loving the glock reference
Great reference
one of the most honest and entertaining reviews I've watched in a while.........again
This was the decider review on me buying one! never looked back, thanks BaronVonGrumble!
Great review mate, I lived with one of the first S1000RR bikes in Spain for 5 months. It only had the quickshifter as an option, no ABS or any of the traction control safety nets. i wouldn't worry about the wind blast ,after the first run on my triple i found my self wondering if i could cope with the wind blast , it soon becomes a none event as you get used to it
You are like the TotalBiscuit of bikes. Loving these little reviews.
He sounds like Jeremy from The peep show.
i test drove this today and it was fantastic. I didn't expect to like it but it was sooo smooth. I drove it back to back with the xr Good review and spot on. But just to reiterate it is fantastically smooth and surprising.
I reckon that's the best review of one of these I've seen, top notch
You'll get used to the naked-ness if you do go for it. I went from a CBR400RR to a SV650N- I find it less tiring on the upper body in general, since you've got that upright riding position, and the wind is supporting you a bit as well.

Rode this bike today, was flipping phenomenal. Love the way the exhaust pops when you roll off.
Your videos are always freakin' awesome man. Keep up the good work!
As a naked rider, I'm really digging the S1000R
"It's basically got it's tits out" That got me Laughing lol
LMAO "It's a jizz machine! we found it, we found the jizz machine!"
Not really convinced on his review, but it's funny as hell.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who reacted like that at the first twist of the throttle lol :P I think you're right about its riding position, maybe because you're upright it feels so immense! Such a great bike, look forward to seeing if you end up picking one up Baron :)
You get more torque down below on the R then you get on the RR. I think thats another point ;)
You must try the Sensational Aprilia 1100 Tuono.
+Boz my fav too, awesome bike indeed
Really want to see a S600RR from bmw that would be pretty interesting.
Love these hard hitting full on technical reviews ... 'jizzy jizzy bang bang' :-)
"Russell Howard on anti-depressants" I'm stealing that phrase, sorry ;)
Only just found your channel recently and love it, I live near Barnstormer and 9 years later they are still digging the road up to try and stop it flooding 😂😂😂
I've tried this bike yesterday, it's truly INSANE! I'm in love with it.
"wizbang jizzy jizzy bumbums on it" hahaha this cracked me up
great review, thanks Baron! Love your enthusiasm.
Watch 1 of your vlogs 1 year ago. Bought zx6r the same day whilst drunk on ebay. 4 weeks later licence passed. 6 weeks later exchanged for cbr1000 rr4. Thanks for improving my life & seriously pissing of my wife!!

It's a couple of years since I last watched this, and I'd forgotten how funny that 'Rider AIDS' patter was. Amongst your best work.
I absolutely love your motorcycle reviews. So far now I have to have a S1000R and a 899 Panigale lol.
went and testrode this bike today, i ride an MT-07. The power is undescribeable, the brakes are insane, the sound is amazing. My gripe was with the seating position, I felt like i was too forward leaned over, and felt discomfort on my wrist, and yes the pegs are abit high imo. Good review dude. I quite prefer your bike review vids. Very informative, no bullshit.
Hey Baron: I see you were one of the lucky 4 winners to get a new Super Duke to test for a while...Congratulations! I hope you end up being THE lucky ONE at the end!! You deserve it. Thanks for entertaining all of us with your rides and musings!
since you tried the ktm 1290 superduke aswell could you describe diferences and your opinion between those 2? thx
I've got a question for ya, what are those "squiggly" or back and forth white lines on the roadway for? I'm from the States and I have never seen those here.
looking forward to the aprrilia tuono v4 naked review they say yhats a scorcher
Barron, need your help!!!,!,
GSXR1000 or Fireblade, you choose as I cannot
I am more towards the Gixxer.
Your thought please?
The R engine isn't so much a detuned engine as it is a retuned engine. They've taken off hp to add torque and faster speed in lower gears.
Cheers Baron, great review. You should ask BMW for some commission because I ordered one based on this video
Mate that was the best motorcycle test video ive ever seen, fair play to you.. you give people exactly what they want.. You should ask MCN for a job.. Bike looks and sounds awsome, got a test ride booked for saterday at barns.
I borrowed one from Bahstormers too, its was a Gen 2, it was a Jizzer, it was metal.
You have ridden both the super duke and the s1000r. which was better in the cities?
and which has better maintenance intervals?
could you make it into a sport tourer?
Check out RoyalJordanian's videos, he did a tour around Europe with his. Several videos of the tour and one talking about preparing for it when it comes to gear and bike.
Greezy_Chef yeah but why? Its already a fast bike and comfortable (just doesnt have a fairing on it)
Does Charlie on the Blade have a channel? I noticed the Ghost on his lid at 13:04 :P
he will do...
Link when he does please :)
Bloody awesome Videos, Baron!! Dont change a thing, keep spunking on all
those bikes!!
Ive been going on my mates GSXR 1000 and feel like I want a bit more ooomf now lol...Thank you 👍😀
Perfect bike, perfect commentary.
I love that bike, it looks so brutal and yet hi tech. Amazing vid man
Royal Jordian did a test drive on that bike from the same BMW center
I love wind blast, you can let it take your weight and rest on it. Plus you get a more exiting sense of speed from it that you don't get from full super sports.
I love my Aprilia Tuono V4R, as it has all the handling and fun of the RSV but I can ride it all day without needing spine realignment from a chiropractor.

If you ever get the chance please do a test ride on a speed triple.
Amazing bike I think this would be one of the few bikes I would get rid of the street triple for sounds and looks amazing. Love the heated grips are those stock or an add on?
i could watch you review every bike going! Im glad you are having the chance to ride all of them beautiful bikes you must be loving it :-)
Love all your videos! Keep up the great work!
Nice Fireblade!... lol Seriously another nice vlog BVG glad I'm not the only numpty that squeals when you open the trottle for the first time.
Baron you need to get up to Scotland for your next holiday! Driving up to Loch Lomond and then onto Loch Ness will take your breath away!
Yep the wind blast over 120 is a bit tiring. I had an R1 streetfighter that was great for back roads but got tiring on the freeway. So much fun having wide bars on a proper sports bike though. Trust me!
Nice test ride Baron.
I also tested one a few days ago. thought is was ok, but it didn't make to want one.
Sounds like a nice ride as well, especially accelerating past the lorries.
The wind will not be much of a problem, you will get use to it and even start enjoying it. The naked feel of speed is very good and as you say so much more fun under the speed limit. But as you know its just the cost of looking after the BMW's, but there service is good.
The intro voice reminded me of Jeremy Clarkson lol
Oh and Barron. I will be finishing my wr450f supermoto conversion soon and the BVG sticker I bought last year will soon be taking pride of place. Hehe
You are an awesome human being please continue on.
Bahnstormers in Farringdon right? I'm there this week sometime for go on their K1300S demonstrator.
im gonna chat them up for a go on an 800GT, nice guys in there, crackin dealer
Great review baron, another fan from the states here. Maybe if that shield is removed the air will spread over your chest instead of all being directed on your head/neck? Does this come standard with a quickshifter? Only wondering as OrcaGT rode one with a quickshifter in his vid the other day.
Apologies if it's mentioned later on in the video. I'm only a few mins in.
the sport one does - the standard one, dont think so..
This looks like way too much fun. Im off to get my bike license!
I have a GoPro and want to get a tie mic in my helmet but tried out a couple of tie mics from Maplins and found the audio quality poor because of background noise/interference.
see you had a trip to Loomies, I've practically been living there in this nice weather!
You'll have to develop those shaft muscles to keep that head up!
Isn´t that guy on white Blade your mate, who went with you on the 24 Hour challenge?
have you tried the ktm or the aprilia v4r? Both of those have a bit better looks, same mental attitude. My good friend has the aprilia and loves it
Oh my goodness. This is my next bike. Thanks for sharing !
I'd love to see you compare the Tuono V4 now you've ridden this. Excellent review!
And the KTM.
Wind protection is nice, but I don't think BMW had us 6' 4" people in mind. How wide are those MX bars anyways when your slicing through thick traffic? I think I'd want to try a city demo ride before purchase.
Another good vid, looks like you had a good time.

Those who say they don't are either lying or are used to it. For me its not a problem IF I'm sticking to the NSL. ;-)
Nice work Baron, very honest reactions after twisting the throttle each time.
Please, can't you do a review of the yamaha r1 2015! It would be cool to hear your thoughts about it
reminds of the Benelli TNT Cafe Racer R, your opinions on the Benelli?
still riding my S1000R in 2024 & still love it. (MY 2020)
Maybe the aerodynamic profile of your shoei isn't suited for a naked, upright bike.
Awesome video Baron! And what a bike!
Nice bike! So stable! Had it on the Red Bull Ring!
Nice review Baron. A sensible sports bike. Interesting concept.
Great review. Bit late on the bandwagon (only a bit...), but how's the handling on the twisties/cornering compared to another supernaked, say a Tuono?
Great review and your reaction is just one more confirmation that my deposit vent in correct direction :)
the BMW's plastics are glued on. my buddy bought one and the right side fairing blew off and almost wrecked him!
Another great review from the Baron
My S1000R became another beast once I did the decat. There's not much that will keep up with it to 200. But topping out at 265 is a bummer when you're running away from the supersports and you run out of legs.
How is this bike filtering thru London? Is it narrow enough?
@Baron is the engine rpm limited from the dealer for the running in period
